2. Gyre: another cloud option for prerecorded streams
Gyre’s official product information describes cloud-based 24/7 streaming for prerecorded video, with playlists and scheduling on some plans. It is the closest surfaced alternative when you want continuous prerecorded playback rather than a live camera feed. Its plan limits include differences in concurrent streams, resolution and storage, so compare the current plan table with your channel count and content library before choosing.

Gyre also displays claims about channel growth and watch time. Those are vendor-reported claims, not independent evidence that using the service will produce those outcomes. Confirm current destination compatibility and plan features before subscribing.

OBS Studio is free, open-source software for Windows, macOS and Linux. It supports scenes, sources, and audio/video mixing, making it useful when you want hands-on control over a production. It is not hosted cloud playout: OBS sends the stream directly to the destination service, so a 24/7 setup depends on the computer, network and someone’s plan for monitoring and restarting it.
What you take on with a local encoder
- Keep the computer running and prevent sleep, shutdowns and disruptive updates.
- Maintain a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream.
- Watch for encoder, network or YouTube interruptions and restart the stream when needed.
- Plan for hardware failure, power loss and recovery when nobody is present.
Choose OBS when production control matters and you are willing to maintain the system. It is not a drop-in cloud replacement for unattended playback.

4. Restream: consider it for distribution, not assumed 24/7 playout
Restream is relevant if you want to distribute an encoder or studio feed to multiple channels. Its official help documentation lists simultaneous-channel counts by tier and says prerecorded video streaming is a higher-plan feature. The cited documentation does not establish support for unattended, endless 24/7 looping. Before treating Restream as a Castr substitute for continuous playback, verify that it supports your exact source, schedule, duration and recovery requirements.
5. StreamYard: a browser studio for staffed broadcasts
StreamYard is a browser-based live studio and may suit staffed broadcasts. The available pricing page outlines plans but does not verify unattended prerecorded 24/7 playout. Treat it as a studio option, not a like-for-like continuous-playout service unless current product documentation confirms the feature you need.

If you are looping prerecorded videos

If you are producing a live camera or encoder feed
OBS provides local production tools and is free, but you operate the computer and handle interruptions. Restream is worth considering when distributing an encoder or studio feed across multiple channels is the main requirement. StreamYard may suit staffed browser-based broadcasts; verify any 24/7 requirement separately.
If you need more than one channel or destination
Separate concurrent streams from destinations: a service’s stream count and the number of destinations it can send to are different limits. Check both, along with storage and bandwidth, against your expected schedule. Restream’s channel counts depend on plan; Castr’s cited pricing snapshot also varies its stream and bandwidth limits by billing term.
If unattended recovery is essential
Ask who detects a dropped YouTube feed and who restarts it. A locally operated OBS setup leaves monitoring and recovery to you. StreamNeo includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Copyright, reused content and YouTube eligibility
A stream running continuously does not make its contents permissible to broadcast or automatically eligible for monetization. Before scheduling videos, make sure you have the rights to the footage, music, gameplay and other included material, and check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies. Repeating the same content or using material with limited original contribution can raise separate reused-content concerns; a streaming service cannot grant rights or guarantee monetization. Keep records of licenses and permissions, and review YouTube’s rules for the channel and content involved.

- The service can multistream, but may not loop unattended. Confirm prerecorded playback, scheduling, continuous duration and recovery as separate capabilities.
- A plan has enough destinations but too few concurrent streams. Compare both limits; they describe different kinds of capacity.
- Annual bandwidth is mistaken for a monthly allowance. Castr’s listed annual figures are annual pools. Check the billing term and how usage is measured.
- A local stream stops when the computer or connection fails. With OBS, the operator is responsible for uptime and restart planning.
- A cloud service’s current limits differ from an older help page. Castr’s no-duration-cap statement is from an older support article and is conditional on an active subscription and available bandwidth; verify the current terms.
- Growth figures are treated as promised results. Gyre’s growth and watch-time claims are vendor-reported, not independent comparative evidence.
