Neither AWS nor Cloudflare is established as a requirement for publishing to YouTube. If YouTube is your destination, first confirm that your channel can stream and that your recordings are cleared for the intended use. Cloudflare Stream Live: managed web and app delivery
Cloudflare Stream Live accepts live input over RTMPS or SRT, encodes at multiple resolutions, and delivers playback through a website or app player or another HLS/DASH-compatible player. That makes it relevant when an owned web or app destination is part of your plan. Its broadcaster software needs to reconnect after a connection break; the documentation does not promise that a YouTube broadcast will recover end to end.
Cloudflare records live streams. A recording that runs longer than seven days is truncated to seven days. A 24/7 channel therefore needs to account for both recording retention and playback traffic, not just the act of sending a live input.

AWS: build and operate a component stack
AWS documents a 24/7 live-channel workflow using MediaLive, MediaPackage or MediaStore, and CloudFront. This is more configurable than a single managed streaming layer, but it also means operating and estimating several services. A more resilient design can use two MediaLive pipelines in separate Availability Zones; that is a design and cost choice, not an automatic property of every setup.

AWS charges depend on the architecture and viewing
AWS says MediaLive resources incur charges while a channel is running even if there is no input and no output is being produced. Inputs, outputs, add-ons, and potentially data transfer also affect the bill. AWS’s published example for a one-hour live event with 1,000 viewers totals $69.74: $1.99 for MediaLive, $0.11 for MediaPackage ingest, $0.40 for packaging/origination, and $67.24 for CloudFront. That is an example based on particular outputs, region, and viewer bitrate—not a monthly price for a 24/7 channel.
AWS states that a 12-month MediaLive commitment can save up to 75% versus on-demand rates for inputs, outputs, and add-ons; charges apply for every hour of the commitment month. This is a maximum stated saving, not a guaranteed discount for every configuration. Get an estimate using your actual bitrate, audience, region, output ladder, and redundancy plan rather than multiplying an event example without matching its assumptions.

Cloudflare charges depend on stored and delivered minutes
Cloudflare says live and on-demand video use the same pricing dimensions: stored minutes and delivered minutes. A live broadcast with no viewers has no delivered-minute fee, but its recording still counts as stored video. For continuous nature audio or video, viewer volume and how long recordings are retained both affect the estimate. The available information does not establish which service is cheapest for a particular channel: audience size, bitrate, geographic mix, redundancy, and whether you need a separate web player all matter.

- Check live access: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Account for concurrency: YouTube’s stated limits are 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key, applying at the same time.
- Clear every sound: YouTube’s livestream terms say the creator represents and warrants that they have all necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights. Confirm that field recordings, loops, and any background music are cleared for the intended worldwide use.
Continuous operation is not guaranteed by choosing a cloud provider. It depends on the source or uploaded content, encoder or cloud configuration, connectivity, destination platform, and recovery behavior. Do not assume that a vendor’s infrastructure promise guarantees uninterrupted availability of a YouTube broadcast.

A practical decision path
- Verify the channel and content. Confirm YouTube live access and worldwide rights for every recording and music track.
- Choose the destination. If YouTube is the only destination and the source is prerecorded, start with a YouTube-focused looping service. If you need a separate site or app player, evaluate Cloudflare’s playback workflow or an AWS delivery architecture.
- Estimate the real workload. Use expected average bitrate, viewer count, viewer geography, output resolutions, recording retention, and redundancy requirements. For AWS, include all components and delivery; for Cloudflare, estimate stored and delivered minutes.
- Decide how recovery should work. Cloudflare’s broadcaster software must be configured to reconnect after a break. For AWS, assess whether one MediaLive pipeline is sufficient or whether a two-Availability-Zone standard channel is justified.
- Validate the destination behavior. Test the complete publishing path and recovery plan rather than treating cloud uptime as proof that YouTube will stay live.
