For a single 24/7 Gurbani feed, StreamNeo is the simplest option to try first: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and it runs in the cloud. It supports uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with the first day free. If you want to manage the encoder yourself, compare a VPS such as DigitalOcean Droplets or Amazon Lightsail; for a more elaborate redundant streaming pipeline, consider AWS’s Live Streaming solution.
Which cloud approach fits a continuous Gurbani stream?
The right choice depends on whether you want a service to run uploaded video for you, a virtual server you administer, or a managed multi-service broadcast architecture. These options are not interchangeable: a VPS requires you to configure and maintain the encoder, while AWS’s reference architecture includes transcoding and packaging components beyond a single YouTube feed.
| Option | What it does | Best suited to | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud service that loops uploaded video or playlists to YouTube. | Creators who want an always-on YouTube stream without keeping a computer or encoder running at home. | Plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera. YouTube only. |
| DigitalOcean Droplet with SRS | Self-managed VPS; DigitalOcean’s SRS Marketplace listing describes virtual live streaming and YouTube restreaming support. | Operators comfortable configuring and maintaining Linux and an encoder. | The listing does not establish that a particular Droplet can sustain every continuous-stream workload. |
| Amazon Lightsail VPS | Self-managed Linux/Unix virtual server bundles with listed compute and transfer allowances. | Operators who want a VPS and can size it to their encoding and bandwidth needs. | The smallest listed bundle is not proven adequate for every encoding format or resolution. |
| AWS Live Streaming solution | Reference architecture using MediaLive, MediaPackage and CloudFront, with two input feeds for redundancy and packaged delivery formats. | Projects that need a more involved redundant, transcoded and packaged pipeline. | Its published estimate is for the documented solution in US East (N. Virginia), not a quote for one YouTube channel. |
StreamNeo: the least hands-on route
For an uploaded Gurbani recording or playlist, StreamNeo keeps the YouTube stream running from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot (pooled across active slots), playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The uploaded file streams as made, up to 4K 60fps; there are no quality tiers. See StreamNeo for details.
DigitalOcean Droplets with SRS: a self-managed VPS
DigitalOcean describes Droplets as VPS instances, and its SRS Marketplace listing describes an open-source live-streaming application with FFmpeg transcoding, multi-platform restreaming and virtual live-streaming features. A listing establishes the documented features, not a performance guarantee for a particular plan. You choose the server, configure the video source and encoder, and handle monitoring, restarts, security updates and recovery.

DigitalOcean’s pricing page says bundled Droplets start at $4 per month and outbound transfer starts at 500 GiB per month; the allowance depends on the plan. At a continuous 8 Mbps, the feed alone is about 2.6 TB over 30 days before protocol overhead, so a low starting price does not establish the total cost. Check the current plan’s transfer allowance and overage terms before choosing it. DigitalOcean Droplet pricing · SRS on DigitalOcean.
Amazon Lightsail: compare compute and included transfer
AWS lists Linux/Unix bundles including a $5/month option with 0.5 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 20 GB SSD and 1 TB transfer, and a $12/month option with 2 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 60 GB SSD and 3 TB transfer. These are published bundle specifications, not proof that either instance can encode your source continuously. Compare the transfer allowance with your calculated feed traffic, and verify current regional pricing and terms on the Amazon Lightsail pricing page.

AWS Live Streaming: a larger managed architecture
AWS’s guide describes a solution using MediaLive, MediaPackage and CloudFront, including two input feeds for redundancy and packaged delivery formats. The guide’s example estimate is $69.74 per month for US East (N. Virginia); it was published in August 2023, is for the documented architecture, and AWS warns that prices can change. That example is not a quote for a single encoder sending one feed to YouTube. Check each service’s current pricing before deploying. See the AWS Live Streaming implementation guide.
Estimate bandwidth before choosing a VPS
For a continuous stream, calculate outbound transfer from the encoded bitrate rather than relying on the server’s monthly price alone:

bitrate in megabits per second × seconds streamed ÷ 8 = megabytes transferred
At 8 Mbps for 30 days, the calculation is 8 × 2,592,000 ÷ 8 = 2,592,000 MB decimal, or about 2.6 TB, before protocol overhead. This is a bitrate-based estimate, not a provider statistic. Add overhead and a safety margin, then compare the result with the VPS plan’s included transfer and overage charges. DigitalOcean’s starting allowance is plan-dependent; the Lightsail examples list 1 TB and 3 TB, respectively, so the 8 Mbps example exceeds the former before overhead but is below the latter before overhead.

If the server must transcode rather than relay already encoded video, its CPU and memory requirements depend on the source format, output settings and workload. Choose the resolution and frame rate based on your source and audience, then test the exact workload on the intended instance. The available provider specifications do not establish a universally adequate plan.

- Prepare the server and source. Create a Linux VPS in your chosen region, secure it, install and configure your encoder, and make sure the source video and audio are accessible to the process. Decide whether the server will relay an already encoded feed or transcode it; that choice changes compute requirements.
- Set a YouTube encoder profile. YouTube’s current guidance recommends H.264 at 8 Mbps for 720p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1 among supported codecs. Match resolution and frame rate to the material rather than upscaling unnecessarily. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
- Use RTMPS ingestion. In YouTube’s live control room, obtain the stream key for the broadcast and enter it only in the encoder or service that needs to publish the feed. Use YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint and port 443 as specified in its developer guide; do not expose the key in public logs or screenshots. RTMPS encrypts the RTMP connection. See YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Test before going live. Start a private or unlisted test if appropriate for your channel, confirm the picture, audio, bitrate and keyframe cadence, and check YouTube’s preview and stream health before relying on the feed. YouTube explicitly advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Operate the process continuously. Configure process supervision and restart behavior, review logs, set alerts, apply security updates, and document how to recover if the encoder, server or connection fails. These are operational safeguards; no provider uptime or stream performance is guaranteed by the listed plan specifications.
YouTube’s LiveStreams API reports stream state and health issues such as low video bitrate, frame-rate mismatch and missing audio. Use those signals alongside the live control room when diagnosing a degraded feed. See the LiveStreams API documentation.
Check content rights and YouTube rules before scheduling a loop
Cloud hosting does not grant permission to broadcast the recording or its components. Before scheduling a 24/7 stream, verify that you have the necessary rights for the exact Gurbani recording, performance, artwork and video, including any underlying composition or third-party material. The hosting specifications cannot determine whether a particular recording is cleared.
Also check YouTube’s current rules for live streams and monetization against your channel and content. Do not assume that a devotional or continuous format is automatically exempt from copyright enforcement or reused-content requirements. Keep records of licenses and permissions, and be prepared to stop or replace material if a rights holder or YouTube raises a valid issue.
Choose based on operation, not just the headline price
- Choose a cloud looping service if the source is uploaded video and you do not want a computer, encoder or home connection to remain on.
- Choose a VPS if you need to control the encoder and are prepared to size compute, manage transfer, secure the server and respond to failures.
- Consider the AWS reference architecture if redundancy, transcoding and packaged delivery are actual requirements that justify multiple services and their cost and complexity.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are accepted in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
