There is no official Gran Turismo 7 setting proven fastest for every player, car and controller or wheel. For fast, stable laps, prioritize inputs you can repeat, then compare settings under the same conditions. GT7’s official update notes have changed controller response, wheel force feedback and assist behavior over time, so treat old numeric presets as starting points—not universal answers.
What has changed in GT7’s settings
The official 1.71 update notice, dated August 20, 2026, reports changes to both control types: refined steering response for wireless-controller analog sticks and the directional pad, improved throttle and brake response, and revised steering-wheel force-feedback torque strength and friction. It also says understeer vibration was refined. Gran Turismo’s 1.71 update notice lists these changes.
The same notice revises GT Auto Setup parameters for the Fanatec GT DD Pro, GT DD Extreme and Podium. Firmware may be required. Podium Auto Setup applies to Low Torque mode; High Torque mode requires manual parameters. FullForce is supported on the GT DD Pro with the required firmware.
Earlier official notices add useful context. Update 1.65 introduced simulated friction on selected force-feedback wheels and FullForce support for the GT DD Extreme; update 1.66 later adjusted steering-controller force feedback. These features and adjustments are device- and update-specific, rather than a single setting that applies equally to every wheel.
#1 Best Overall
- PlayStation compatible: Officially licensed for PS5 and PS4 consoles. Also works on Windows PC
- 5 Nm Direct Drive servo motor: Custom-designed in Germany for sim racing providing linear, consistent performance with patented FluxBarrier technology to improve motor efficiency and smoothness
- Passively cooled base: Housing is made from aluminum (passive heat sink, core structural component) with composite end caps
- Steering wheel designed by Polyphony Digital: Tactile rubber grip with OLED display and diffused RevLED strip, compact 280 mm diameter, optimized for the PlayStation interface
- Four 5-way directional sticks: Assigned to GT7's rapid-access adjustments for traction control, brake balance, torque split, and fuel mapping
Choose a repeatable baseline before changing settings
Use your current familiar setup as a baseline. If a saved preset predates an update, check the settings in game rather than assuming it still reflects the current defaults: GT7 has changed both assist behavior and some defaults over time. The official 1.31 notes document changes to controller algorithms and assists.
- Keep the same car, track, conditions and session type for each comparison.
- Change one input or assist setting at a time so you can tell what affected your control.
- Compare several clean laps, not only your single best time. Look at repeatability, braking and corner exits as well as pace.
- If a change makes your inputs less predictable, return to the baseline before trying another adjustment.
This is a practical comparison method, not a published lap-time test. The official sources cited here do not establish a universal sensitivity, torque or assist value as fastest.
Controller settings: make steering and pedals easy to modulate
For a wireless controller, aim for steering and trigger responses that let you make smooth, controlled inputs. If the car reacts too abruptly for you to place consistently, return to your familiar setting and adjust only one response parameter at a time. GT7’s 1.71 notice confirms that analog-stick and directional-pad steering response, as well as throttle and brake response, have been refined; it does not prescribe a numeric sensitivity setting.

- Compatible with PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC .Use the HORI Device Manager app to download firmware, adjust settings and make up to 4 custom profiles
- Full-size racing wheel and pedals optimized for authentic racing simulation
- 270-degree turn radius with adjustable output options
- Mount security with sturdy clamp system
- Use the HORI Device Manager app to download firmware, adjust settings and make up to 4 custom profiles
Do not assume a controller preset from an older update will feel identical after a game update. Recheck your settings and use the same-lap comparison process to decide whether a change actually helps your consistency.
Wheel settings: prioritize manageable, clear feedback
Start with GT7’s supported setup for your specific wheel and the manufacturer’s current firmware guidance. Force feedback should communicate what the car is doing without making the wheel difficult to control. If feedback feels excessive or produces harsh vibration, lower force-feedback max torque or sensitivity rather than trying to endure it.
That caution is backed by GT7’s 1.15 update details, which warn that very high max torque or force-feedback sensitivity may cause violent vibration on several named wheels and advise lowering the value if this happens. The same notice does not identify a universally optimal torque or sensitivity number.

For devices with extra feedback features, check the relevant update notes and settings. GT7’s 1.65 notice says simulated friction was added to selected wheels to bring steering feel closer to that of a real car. It also documents FullForce support for the GT DD Extreme and says FullForce can be disabled through the in-game vibration-function setting; firmware was recommended. The later 1.71 notice adds FullForce support for the GT DD Pro, also requiring firmware.
Fanatec GT DD Pro, GT DD Extreme and Podium
If you use one of these models, check whether your firmware is current and whether the 1.71 Auto Setup applies to your wheel and operating mode. For Podium, GT’s Auto Setup is for Low Torque; use manual parameters in High Torque mode. Do not copy a setting intended for a different mode or model.

Logitech G923
GT7’s compatibility notice for the G923 documents TRUEFORCE, wheel-input checking and pedal-sensitivity calibration. To check or calibrate, go to Options > Controllers > Steering Controller Settings. Vibration Strength is under Options > Controllers > Vibration Function. The notice reports a default vibration-strength value of 100 and says to choose a preferred level if vibration is excessive or loud; 100 is a default, not a proven performance setting.

Assistance settings: use the support that makes your laps consistent
GT7 places driving assists in the pre-race Quick Menu under Assistance Settings. The official online manual lists the available assistance options. Use the braking and traction assistance that helps you drive consistently, then reduce reliance gradually only if you can maintain repeatable braking and corner exits without it. Because assist defaults and intervention have changed, confirm what is actually enabled in your current game.
Controller or wheel: choose for control, not a promised lap-time advantage
The official sources document changes and device-specific features, but they do not provide controlled comparative lap-time evidence proving that a controller or wheel is categorically quicker. Choose based on what you can operate consistently and what you already own.
Quick Recap
| Consideration | Controller | Steering wheel |
|---|---|---|
| Controllability | Judge whether stick and trigger responses let you make smooth corrections. | Judge whether feedback is clear and manageable rather than harsh or distracting. |
| Consistency | Use the same grip and input approach while comparing settings. | Check wheel and pedal inputs, and calibrate where your model supports it. |
| Setup effort | Typically requires fewer device-specific checks; recheck response after updates. | May involve firmware, device-specific setup, torque modes or pedal calibration. |
| Cost and existing equipment | Use the controller you have if it lets you drive consistently. | Consider the wheel and setup you already own; this advice does not require buying one. |
