There is no proven universal controller preset for fighting games across PS5, Xbox and PC. Start with the settings in the game you play, choose a control style and button layout you can use consistently, then adjust the stick deadzone only if you get unwanted movement or inputs. Treat hardware-level profiles as a separate layer, not a replacement for the game’s settings.
Start with your game’s own controller settings
Open the specific fighting game’s control or battle settings before changing controller software or profiles. Games can offer different control types, button assignments and other options, so a numerical preset for one title cannot be assumed to suit another.

Choose a layout you can execute reliably
Select the control type and button assignments that let you perform the actions you need consistently. There is no substantiated basis here for declaring a D-pad, analog stick or button arrangement objectively best for every player or fighting game. A layout that feels comfortable and produces dependable inputs is a better starting point than copying an unexplained preset.

Set the deadzone only as high as you need
A stick deadzone is the range of movement the controller or game ignores. With a larger deadzone, small stick movements are less likely to register; the trade-off is that the stick must move farther before an input is recognized. PlayStation uses 10% as an explanatory example: the stick must tilt beyond that range before input registers. That example is not a recommended fighting-game setting.
As practical tuning guidance, try the smallest deadzone that avoids unwanted movement on your controller in your game. If the character moves or selects directions when you are not intentionally moving the stick, increase it gradually. If deliberate movement fails to register until you tilt farther than you want, reduce it. Exact values depend on the controller and game; no universal value is established.

Keep game settings and controller profiles separate
In-game controls and controller-level profiles are two different configuration layers. A game may assign actions to buttons, while a controller profile can alter button mapping or stick behavior. Check both when diagnosing an input issue, and verify that the resulting controls behave as intended rather than assuming one layer overrides the other.

Those options are conveniences, not requirements or proof of a performance advantage. On PC, the cited documentation does not establish how these profiles interact with Steam Input or every game. Check the game’s own options and verify your final mapping if you use multiple input layers.
What to expect on PS5, Xbox and PC
- PS5: Use the game’s settings first. Street Fighter 6 documents Battle Settings in Battle Hub and Fighting Ground, and DualSense Edge owners can configure controller profiles. Neither establishes a preset that applies to every PS5 fighting game.
- Xbox: The sources cited here do not establish official Xbox fighting-game settings or numerical recommendations. Do not transfer DualSense Edge instructions or values to Xbox controllers as though they were universal.
- PC: PlayStation documents DualSense Edge profile customization on Windows PC. Game-level options and any other input software remain title- and setup-dependent; verify the controls in the game you play.
Do you need a configurable controller?
No. A configurable controller can be useful if you want custom profiles, adjustable stick behavior or button remapping, but the documented features do not show that buying one is necessary or that it makes every player better. Use the settings already available in your game before considering hardware. If you do shop for an optional controller, confirm that the particular model supports your platform and preferred control style.
