Choose FC 25 wonderkids by what your squad needs: a young player who can contribute soon, a high-potential prospect to develop, or a longer-term project that may be easier to fit into your plans. Compare current overall rating with potential, then check the player’s position, age, value estimate and the squad data in your save. Ratings and transfers can change with squad updates.
How to choose a wonderkid in FC 25
“Wonderkid” is a scouting label, not an official EA category. Lists use different cutoffs: for example, Operation Sports’ January 3, 2025 guide selects players under 21 with potential of at least 84, grouped by position. For a useful shortlist, weigh four things together:
- Current overall: a rough indicator of how ready a player may be to help now.
- Potential: the database’s estimate of a player’s possible ceiling, not a promise that every save will reach it.
- Position and role: a highly rated prospect is less useful if your formation has no suitable place for them.
- Age and value: younger players may offer more development time, but an elite prospect can still carry a substantial estimated value.
FIFACM’s FC 25 database view accessed in 2026 lists Lamine Yamal at age 16, 86 overall, 95 potential and an estimated value of €140.5 million. That illustrates the trade-off: exceptional upside does not necessarily mean an affordable signing. The value is a database estimate, not a guaranteed fee in a Career Mode save. Shortlist players for your squad’s needs
Start with the role you need to fill, then compare candidates’ current rating and potential in the squad data you are using. Position-based lists are useful for narrowing the field, but no single ranking can account for your formation, budget or save-specific transfer situation. - Need help now? Favor a stronger current overall, even if another candidate has a higher potential rating.
- Building for the future? Give more weight to potential and age, while accepting that the player may need time before becoming a regular starter.
- Working within a tight budget? Treat estimated values as a first-pass filter, not a quote. A player’s price and availability depend on the timing and club in your save, as Operation Sports cautions.

Check the squad update behind your shortlist
Before pursuing a player from a published list, make sure its ratings and transfers match the squad data in your game. EA says squad updates provide the latest transfers and player ratings; consequently, a list tied to an older database may not match your Career Mode. - Check that your game has the squad update you intend to use. EA’s Career Mode guidance explains how to download squad updates.
- Look up the player in your selected database version or in your game, and confirm their current rating, position and club.
- Compare potential and estimated value using the same data version; do not mix figures from different updates as if they were directly equivalent.
- Scout and approach the player in your save. Treat any published price or availability as a starting point, not a guaranteed transfer outcome.
What a published wonderkid list can—and cannot—tell you
Published guides are useful for finding names and sorting prospects by position or potential. Their figures are snapshots, however, and their selection rules differ. FIFACM exposes fields such as overall, potential, age, growth and estimated value; an individual database entry should be read as data for that database view, not as a promise about every Career Mode save. Use a list to create a shortlist, then make the final decision against your own squad update, role needs and transfer situation. A player with a high ceiling is only the right signing if their present ability, development horizon and likely cost make sense for your club.
