There is no universally best Fortnite controller setup. A current starting point is Builder Pro, Build Immediately on, vibration off, 40–45% look speed, 15% ADS speed, Exponential input, 5% deadzones on both sticks, and Aim Assist Strength at 100%. These are Setup.gg recommendations updated September 24, 2026—not Epic-endorsed settings or a guarantee of better aim. Adjust one setting at a time and keep what feels controlled on your platform and controller.
Recommended Fortnite controller settings to start with
| Setting | Starting value | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Controller mapping | Builder Pro | A practical preset; switch to Custom if you want to tailor button assignments. |
| Build Immediately | On | Use this as the cited guide’s baseline, then change it if it does not suit your building habits. |
| Vibration | Off | A preference setting; turn it back on if you prefer feedback. |
| Look sensitivity | 40–45% | Controls general camera movement. Adjust gradually if turning feels too slow or difficult to control. |
| ADS sensitivity | 15% | Controls aiming down sights. The baseline keeps it below general look speed. |
| Input curve | Exponential | A starting preference, not a universal advantage; Linear is also used in current pro settings cited by Setup.gg. |
| Left and right stick deadzones | 5% each | Start low for responsive input. Raise the affected stick’s deadzone if it moves while untouched. |
| Aim Assist Strength | 100% | Epic’s troubleshooting guidance says to use 100% or lower according to preference. Gyro disables aim assist. |
The sensitivity and deadzone values above are recommendations from Setup.gg’s controller settings guide, updated September 24, 2026. They are not measured results. Epic notes that available controller options can differ by platform and game mode.
How to find controller sensitivity and Aim Assist
- Open Fortnite’s Settings and select Controller Options. On PC, use the gamepad/controller tab and the relevant controller configuration.
- Open Sensitivity and turn on Use Advanced Options to access the advanced controls.
- Choose Aim Assist Strength, set it to your preferred value, and select Apply.
These navigation steps follow Epic Games Player Support’s controller settings instructions. Epic cautions that settings vary by platform and that menus change with the current game mode.
If Advanced Options is missing
Set the game mode to Battle Royale and check the controller settings again. Epic says Advanced Options may not appear outside Battle Royale. The available menu can still vary by platform.

If Aim Assist seems unavailable
Check whether gyro is active: Epic states, “Aim Assist is disabled whenever gyro is active.” Also confirm the Aim Assist setting is available on your platform and that its strength is set to a value you want. Epic’s troubleshooting guidance recommends 100% or lower according to preference.
Choose a mapping that fits how you play
Epic lists Old School, Quick Builder, Combat Pro, Builder Pro, and Custom mapping configurations. Builder Pro is a reasonable place to begin, but no preset is mandatory. Choose Custom if you want to move actions to buttons that are easier or more comfortable for you to reach. Comfort, accessibility needs, and the mode you play matter more than keeping a particular preset.

Linear or Exponential: choose by feel
Setup.gg’s current pro-settings coverage includes players using both Linear and Exponential input. That supports treating the response curve as a preference rather than a rule. Start with one, practice tracking and turning in a repeatable setting, then try the other without changing several sensitivity values at the same time. Keep the curve that gives you controllable aim.
Set deadzones without ignoring stick drift
A deadzone determines how much stick movement is ignored around the center. A lower value can make input feel more responsive, but if the camera or movement shifts while the stick is untouched, raise the deadzone for that stick until the drift stops. Setup.gg’s 5% recommendation is a starting value, not a target that every controller can maintain.

Tune sensitivity one change at a time
- Begin with the baseline values and choose a repeatable practice situation.
- Notice the specific problem: for example, whether camera turns feel sluggish, ADS tracking feels hard to control, or a stick drifts at rest.
- Adjust only the related setting in a small increment, then repeat the same practice.
- Keep the change only if control improves for you; otherwise restore the previous value before testing another adjustment.
Changing multiple values together makes it harder to tell which adjustment helped. These settings are a personal starting configuration, not evidence of a promised performance gain.
