What makes Dune: Awakening the comparison point?
PlayStation describes Dune: Awakening as an open-world survival game with adventure and RPG elements. Its official product copy highlights exploration, crafting, combat, and base construction in a cinematic story set on Arrakis. The setting shapes the survival loop: players contend with the desert climate, seek shade, process water, follow faction stories, and travel using vehicles such as an ornithopter. These are advertised features, not an independent assessment of how the game plays. PlayStation’s Dune: Awakening product page lists a PS5 edition and describes single-player and shared-server play.

PlayStation includes all three among its survival-game recommendations in its official survival-games guide. The guide contains outdated future-release wording about Dune: Awakening; use it for the game descriptions above, not as evidence of release timing.

How to choose based on the part of Dune you like
Choose Grounded for base-centered survival in an unusual setting
Grounded trades Arrakis’s desert scale and science-fiction tone for a backyard world. PlayStation’s description points to creatures, base threats, customization, mutations, and weapons you can upgrade. It is the clearest choice of these three if the appeal is building a place to live and dealing with dangers around it, rather than matching Dune’s setting or story.
Choose Conan Exiles for crafting and construction in a harsh world
Conan Exiles brings together environmental survival, hunting, crafting, cooking, combat, and building in a fantasy setting. Its overlap with Dune: Awakening is the emphasis on surviving a hostile world while gathering materials and making a base—not the sci-fi setting or Arrakis-specific systems.

Choose Rust Console Edition for the threat posed by other players
Rust Console Edition centers its survival pitch on online exposure: other players can put your livelihood at risk. PlayStation’s guide also points to shelters, scavenging, equipment, and alliances. Consider it if social danger and player conflict are a bigger draw than a cinematic story or a more self-contained survival experience.

For Dune: Awakening, the US PlayStation product page identifies a PS5 Standard Edition and says online play requires PS Plus, while also stating PS Plus is not required for single-player. Its mode labels include “Online play required” alongside a single-player option, so the explicit single-player subscription note is the relevant distinction: a subscription is not required for that mode. Check the US product listing for its current details.
In a July 2, 2026 PlayStation Blog announcement, Funcom Chief Marketing Officer Erling Ellingsen said the PS5 edition would include full single-player play, configurable difficulty and gameplay options, and simulated competition from other players for certain objectives. Those are developer statements about the edition, not independent evaluations. The announcement also described planned physical distribution in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand through Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe, and in North and South America through Solutions 2 GO; it does not establish current retail stock.
