Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf what you want from Garry’s Mod is making things, saving them, and letting other people play with them, Teardown is the closest fit here for sandbox experimentation and shared mods, while Scrap Mechanic is the stronger pick for building vehicles and machines. Neither reproduces Garry’s Mod’s broad prop-and-addon sandbox: choose by the kind of creation you want to make and the platform you play on.
What makes a good Garry’s Mod alternative?
Garry’s Mod is a physics-based sandbox built on a modified version of Valve’s Source Engine. Facepunch highlights constructions with moving parts, cooperative online building, and community addons on its official product page, which also records updates in 2026, including one in September. It remains an actively updated reference point, not a discontinued game.

Its appeal is unusually broad: players can experiment with physics, assemble contraptions, use community-made content, and build together. The alternatives below focus on narrower creative loops. Compare them by whether they offer open-ended building or mission-based play, how creations and mods are shared, what multiplayer supports, and whether they fit PC or console.
Teardown: destructible sandbox play and mods
Choose Teardown if you want to experiment in destructible environments, save creations, or browse mods. It is not a general-purpose replacement for Garry’s Mod, but its Creative Mode and sandbox options give you room to play beyond the campaign’s missions.

Ways to build and save
Tuxedo Labs says, “Yes, each level in the campaign has a separate sandbox mode to play around in with unlimited resources.” That means the campaign’s levels can also serve as open-ended spaces for experimentation. The developer FAQ explains how to save Creative Mode assets and respawn them later, a practical feature if you want to return to a creation rather than rebuild it each session. See the Teardown FAQ for the current instructions.
Mods and platform differences
On PC, Teardown supports Steam Workshop. On console, the developer provides curated Mod Packs instead; console players do not get Steam Workshop access. The FAQ says Creative Mode is available on PS5 and Xbox versions, so console players still have a creative sandbox, but their route to user-made content differs from PC.

- USE YOUR DICE WELL - It’s in the tagline of the game: “Dice Break The Rules.” Being able to choose not to follow the lead suit when it’s advantageous to you can be huge! Don’t ignore collecting dice.
- MANIPULATE THE X CARDS - Having the most X’s is bad: they each count as one negative point. You might be able to feed your x cards to the perceived scoring leader.
- HOLDING ONTO CARDS - Because you score cards left in hand, it can be a fun challenge to try and keep well-scoring cards not be pulled out by the trick-taking rules.
- ART BY BETH SOBEL - "Mori" is the Latin word for death and the Japanese word for forest. Both of these interpretations are represented in the artwork of this card game.
- PRAISE FOR MORI - "a fresh take on a familiar genre that will be an easy learn for fans of this type of card game." BGG User KRWoods1
Tuxedo Labs also confirms physical editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Product details and stock can change, so check current listings before buying. For PC, the official FAQ gives a minimum graphics requirement of an OpenGL 4.5-compatible card with at least 3 GB of video memory and says Intel integrated graphics are not supported. Check the current Steam listing for the latest requirements.

Pick Scrap Mechanic if the fun for you is engineering a machine and seeing how it behaves. Its Steam listing describes a multiplayer survival sandbox with physics-based building, Steam Workshop support, and a level editor. That combination makes it a credible choice for constructing contraptions and sharing or exploring user-made content.

Its focus is more specific than Garry’s Mod: vehicle and machine building sits within a survival-game framing, rather than a broad sandbox centered on props and addons. The listing establishes Workshop support, but does not explain a particular creation-publishing workflow; check the game’s current Workshop and community documentation for how to upload or share a project.
