What “like E-Day” means here
Xbox lists Gears of War: E-Day for October 6, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Microsoft Store and Steam, with inclusion in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch. Its story follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in the first days of the Locust invasion, fourteen years before the original Gears of War. Xbox’s E-Day listing describes it as a third-person cover shooter.
The official gameplay update identifies movement, cover, weapons, and enemies as core design pillars and describes campaign exploration in Kalona. That makes cover combat a useful point of comparison, but it does not establish that E-Day is short, linear, or tighter than another game. Here, “tighter” is a preference for a focused-feeling campaign, not a measured ranking.

For a story-first solo campaign: The Last of Us Part I
Pick The Last of Us Part I if your priority is a narrative-centered single-player experience rather than the closest possible match to Gears combat. Steam classifies it as story-rich, single-player, and a third-person shooter; PlayStation says it includes the single-player story and the Left Behind chapter. Those descriptions support the story-first fit, not a claim that its campaign is shorter than E-Day.
For a war-focused narrative: Spec Ops: The Line
Choose Spec Ops: The Line if you want a shooter framed around the human cost of combat. Xbox describes its gameplay as third-person shooting and its mature story as exploring the brutality and emotion of combat. The reviewed store description does not establish whether the game is currently available to purchase, so check the listing before planning to play it.

How to interpret “tighter campaigns”
There is no supported campaign-length comparison or objective pacing ranking among these games and E-Day. A focused-feeling campaign can mean different things: familiar cover combat, a narrative that stays at the center, or a war story that keeps combat’s consequences in view. Use the distinctions above to choose the emphasis you want rather than treating “tighter” as a verified property or assuming any recommendation is shorter.
