What makes CrossWorlds a useful comparison point?
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launched on September 25, 2025; SEGA listed its Steam and Epic Games Store versions for September 26. SEGA lists PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). Nintendo presents separate Switch and Switch 2 editions, so confirm the exact version on the store for your hardware. SEGA’s release announcement and Nintendo’s product page provide the platform details.
Its defining feature is the Travel Ring: after the opening lap, racers pass into a CrossWorld for lap two, then return to the original course for the final lap. SEGA says these transitions can change the route and bring changing gates, Frenzy events, shortcuts, obstacles, rings, and items into play. Nintendo lists 24 tracks and 15 CrossWorlds. That makes changing courses and route variety a better comparison than character roster alone.
There is also a tuning layer. Nintendo lists 45 vehicles and 70 gadgets, while SEGA describes more than 70,000 possible machine combinations. Those are official product figures, not a guarantee that every combination will suit every player. The game supports local split-screen and online formats; SEGA reports cross-platform play and races with up to 12 players, while Nintendo lists Race Park, World Match for up to 12 online players, and Time Trials.

Reviewers have responded differently to particular aspects. PC Gamer praised the tracks’ off-road routes, verticality, shortcuts, experimentation, and customization, while criticizing the online experience and assessing value at the time of its review. Those are one reviewer’s judgments, not a universal verdict or a current price assessment. TechRadar’s 2026 roundup praised the racing, track design, gadgets, and vehicle customization; its comments about content being added reflect that article’s date rather than a confirmed current update schedule. PC Gamer’s review and TechRadar’s roundup offer those perspectives.
Which game should you consider next?

Check gameplay and official descriptions for the alternatives to see how their tracks vary, whether routes change during a race, and how much exploration or shortcut use matters. The available comparison evidence does not establish that any one of the four reproduces CrossWorlds’ Travel Ring structure.
If you care most about tuning
CrossWorlds puts gadgets and vehicle combinations up front. For another game, look for specific details about vehicle setup, character or vehicle abilities, unlocks, and whether customization changes handling or is primarily visual. Do not assume that a character-based racer offers the same kind of mechanical tuning.

If party play matters more than driving depth
Decide how you will play before comparing names: local couch multiplayer, online races, solo play, or time trials. Verify player counts, whether local and online play can be combined, any required platform subscription, and what remains playable offline. Those details can vary by platform and edition, and current support is not established here for the four alternatives.
If you want Disney, Nintendo, or another character cast
Character preference is a valid reason to choose a racer, but it does not answer whether the game fits your system or multiplayer setup. Treat Mario Kart World, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and Disney Speedstorm as distinct leads to investigate, then confirm practical details before purchase rather than inferring them from the franchise.

Check these details before you buy
- Confirm the exact platform and edition. Search the intended console or PC store and check the listing for your hardware and region. CrossWorlds itself has multiple listed platforms and Nintendo editions; do not assume similarly named editions are interchangeable.
- Match the multiplayer format to your group. Check local player count, online player count, cross-platform support, and whether online play needs a paid platform service. Look specifically for the modes your group expects to use.
- Check solo and offline play. If you will race without an internet connection or other players, verify which modes remain available offline and whether any progression or content depends on online access.
- Compare the driving and customization systems. Look for clear descriptions or gameplay showing how handling, shortcuts, vehicle tuning, gadgets, and unlocks work. A colorful roster does not by itself indicate the same level of driving depth.
- Calculate the total cost. Compare the base game with any editions, add-ons, downloadable content, subscriptions, or optional purchases relevant to how you intend to play. Prices and included content can change, so use current regional store listings.
What CrossWorlds’ sales figure does—and does not—say
SEGA announced that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds had sold more than 1 million units worldwide on October 23, 2025. This is a dated company announcement, not a current sales total and not evidence that any alternative has a larger player base or more active online service. SEGA’s announcement reports the figure.

Start with the kind of fun you want next: Mario Kart World for another current Nintendo racer to investigate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for an established series entry, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for another character-based option, or Disney Speedstorm if Disney characters are the draw. Then verify platform, multiplayer, offline play, driving systems, and full cost on current official listings.
