For most buyers, the best gaming laptop for GTA 5 is a Lenovo LOQ 15 or LOQ 16 with an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 16GB of dual-channel RAM, an SSD, and a 1080p or 1200p 144Hz display. This configuration is a particularly sensible target for the more demanding GTAV Enhanced. Choose an RTX 4050 model only when it is substantially cheaper or you mainly intend to play GTAV Legacy.
The recommendation is based on Rockstar’s published requirements and manufacturer specifications, not independent benchmark testing. Exact performance varies with the laptop’s GPU power limit, cooling, display resolution, drivers, game settings, and RAM configuration.

Avoid laptops with integrated graphics, only 8GB of RAM, hard-drive-only storage, or vague refurbished listings that do not identify the exact model and GPU configuration.
GTA V Enhanced versus GTA V Legacy
“GTA 5” is no longer one fixed PC hardware target. Rockstar’s current PC requirements distinguish between GTAV Enhanced and the older GTAV Legacy edition.

For GTAV Enhanced, Rockstar lists an Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600-class processor, 16GB of dual-channel RAM, an NVIDIA RTX 3060 with 8GB of VRAM or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT with 8GB, and an SSD in its recommended requirements. Rockstar also requires internet access, account authentication, and associated launcher software. Requirements can change as the game is updated. See Rockstar’s official PC requirements.
The older Legacy edition is less demanding. A cheaper RTX 3050 laptop may therefore be acceptable for a Legacy-focused buyer, but it is not the safest recommendation for Enhanced. Rockstar’s PC purchase includes both Enhanced and Legacy, with Legacy intended for hardware that does not meet Enhanced’s requirements; confirm the current listing at the Rockstar Games Store.

GPU: RTX 4060 is the preferred target
The RTX 4060 Laptop GPU is the strongest default choice because it has 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, matching the VRAM capacity in Rockstar’s recommended Enhanced GPU class. Cited Lenovo LOQ configurations also list an RTX 4060 with a 115W graphics power rating, a MUX switch, Advanced Optimus, and DLSS support. See the Lenovo LOQ specifications.
An RTX 4050 Laptop GPU is a reasonable value option for 1080p gaming, especially when discounted. However, cited LOQ configurations provide 6GB of VRAM and roughly 95W–105W depending on the model. It is a weaker long-term choice when its price is close to an RTX 4060 laptop.
An RTX 3050 is best reserved for a clearly cheaper Legacy-focused laptop. An RTX 4070 or newer is unnecessary for GTA V alone, although it can make sense for QHD or 1600p gaming, demanding new releases, ray tracing in other games, or extensive modding.
RAM: 16GB is the practical minimum
Choose 16GB of dual-channel RAM for Enhanced. Check whether a laptop’s 16GB is installed as two modules or one module, because memory arrangement can affect performance consistency. Avoid 8GB unless the machine has accessible, inexpensive memory upgrades. Choose 32GB for heavy modding, streaming, browser-heavy multitasking, or longer ownership.

GTAV Enhanced requires an SSD; Steam’s support information also identifies SSD storage and the RTX 3060-class/16GB configuration. See Steam’s GTAV support page.
A 512GB SSD is the minimum practical capacity, but Windows, GTA V, updates, and other games can fill it quickly. A 1TB SSD is the better choice when the price difference is reasonable. Check whether the exact laptop has a replaceable M.2 drive or a second M.2 slot.
Processor: competent H-series hardware is enough
Once a laptop has a modern performance processor, the GPU is usually the more important differentiator for GTA V. Good targets include a Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 H/HS processor, or a modern Intel Core i5 or Core i7 H/HX equivalent. Lenovo’s LOQ family includes configurations such as the Ryzen 7 7840HS and Core i7-13700H.

Do not pay for a Core i9 or Ryzen 9 solely to play GTA V. Put that money toward the RTX 4060, more RAM, a larger SSD, or a better display instead.
Recommended laptop families
Lenovo LOQ 15 or LOQ 16 with RTX 4060
Best overall for most Enhanced buyers. Relevant LOQ configurations combine RTX 4060 graphics, 16GB-class memory, SSD storage, 144Hz 1080p or 1200p displays, MUX switching, Advanced Optimus, and gaming-oriented cooling with dual fans and multiple heat pipes.
Start with Lenovo’s LOQ product page and verify the exact configuration before buying. LOQ naming covers substantially different CPUs, screens, memory layouts, and GPU power limits. Some panels also have mediocre color coverage, and the chassis is a typical gaming-laptop compromise in weight and battery life.
ASUS TUF Gaming A15 or A17 with RTX 4060
A strong alternative when the exact deal or chassis is better. ASUS lists RTX 4060 models with 8GB GDDR6, 144Hz display options, a MUX switch, and Advanced Optimus on relevant configurations. Check the exact generation and model on the ASUS TUF specifications page.
Do not assume every TUF screen is premium. The cited A17 specification lists a 144Hz panel with 45% NTSC coverage, which may be fine for gaming but is poor for color-sensitive work. A17 models are also less portable than 15-inch alternatives.

Lenovo LOQ with RTX 4050
The best budget-oriented route. An RTX 4050 LOQ with 16GB RAM, an SSD, a modern H/HS processor, and a 1080p 144Hz display is sensible for Legacy and for Enhanced at adjusted settings.
Skip it when an RTX 4060 model costs only slightly more, or when you want maximum settings, more VRAM headroom, or extensive graphics mods. Check the LOQ 16 specifications and the exact retailer listing rather than relying on the family name.
Acer Nitro V with RTX 4060
A Nitro V RTX 4060 can be worth considering during a genuine sale, but the exact U.S. SKU must be checked first. Confirm GPU wattage, display quality, RAM arrangement, warranty, and retailer support. Do not rely on an unspecified third-party price list or assume that every Nitro V configuration has the same specifications.

The central difference for this purchase is not only raw GPU speed. The RTX 4050 typically has 6GB of VRAM, while the RTX 4060 has 8GB. Rockstar’s Enhanced recommended GPU specification uses 8GB, which is why the RTX 4060 is the more comfortable target for a new laptop purchase.
That does not make RTX 4060 universally required. An RTX 4050 is rational when the discount is substantial, the display is 1080p, and the buyer is comfortable adjusting advanced graphics settings or mainly playing Legacy. Compare the complete machine: GPU wattage, cooling, CPU power limits, RAM arrangement, SSD capacity, and screen resolution all matter.

Why a 144Hz screen helps—but does not guarantee 144 FPS
A 144Hz panel can show smoother motion than a 60Hz panel when the laptop produces higher frame rates, and it also makes general desktop interaction feel more responsive. It does not guarantee 144 frames per second.
GTA V performance depends on the edition, resolution, graphics preset, advanced graphics settings, traffic and population density, drivers, laptop power mode, and mods. Inspect the panel’s brightness, color gamut, response time, ghosting behavior, and adaptive-sync support separately from its refresh rate. A 1080p screen is the safest pairing for an RTX 4050; RTX 4060 is more suitable for 1200p or 1600p, particularly with demanding settings.
Settings and setup advice
- Install the game on the SSD and use the laptop while plugged into its charger.
- Select the manufacturer’s performance mode when gaming.
- Confirm that GTA V is using the discrete NVIDIA GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- Update Windows, the NVIDIA driver, and Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Start at 1080p or the display’s native resolution.
- If performance is inconsistent, reduce advanced graphics, extended shadows, population density, and distance settings before lowering everything.
- Use an external monitor only after checking the laptop’s video outputs and whether the system can sustain the desired resolution and refresh rate.
These steps are guidance, not a promise of a particular frame rate. No FPS figure should be treated as universal without the exact game version, resolution, settings, driver, laptop, and RAM configuration.

- Confirm whether the listing targets GTAV Enhanced, Legacy, or both.
- Choose an RTX 4050 or RTX 4060-class discrete GPU; prefer RTX 4060 for Enhanced.
- Require 16GB of dual-channel RAM, with accessible upgrade slots preferred.
- Require an SSD; choose 1TB if you install several games.
- Check the exact GPU wattage or TGP.
- Verify the display’s resolution, refresh rate, brightness, color coverage, response time, and adaptive sync.
- Confirm the exact CPU, model number, operating system, and U.S. warranty.

Common problems and fixes
The laptop has only 8GB of RAM
It falls below Rockstar’s listed 16GB Enhanced recommendation. Upgrade it before treating the configuration as final, and confirm whether the installed memory is one module or a dual-channel pair.
GTA V will not launch
- Update Windows and the graphics driver.
- Install, update, and sign in to Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Confirm internet activation, account entitlement, and associated software requirements.
- Verify that the game is installed on an SSD.
- Plug in the laptop and select performance mode.
- Confirm the NVIDIA GPU is selected.
- Verify the game files through Steam or the relevant store.
- Check the Enhanced requirements rather than only the lower Legacy requirements.
Mods or GTA Online behave differently
Graphics mods can substantially increase GPU, VRAM, storage, and stability demands. Heavy mod users should favor an RTX 4060 or better, 32GB RAM, a 1TB or larger SSD, and a well-cooled chassis, but no laptop guarantees compatibility with every mod.
GTA Online also depends on authentication, network quality, and service availability. Meeting the hardware requirements does not eliminate latency, launcher, or server-side problems.
Bottom line
Buy a Lenovo LOQ 15 or LOQ 16 with an RTX 4060, 16GB dual-channel RAM, an SSD, and a 1080p or 1200p 144Hz display for the best overall balance for GTA V Enhanced. A Lenovo LOQ or ASUS TUF with RTX 4050 is a reasonable budget choice when it is meaningfully cheaper, particularly for GTA V Legacy. Regardless of brand, compare the exact SKU—not just the RTX label—because GPU wattage, cooling, RAM layout, storage, and display quality can change the experience substantially.
