Best Gaming Monitor for PUBG in 2024: 540Hz Esports Speed vs 1440p Value

The ASUS PG248QP is the best specialist competitive PUBG monitor in 2024, but stable 240Hz and 1440p alternatives make more sense for many players.

For pure competitive PUBG in the 2024 market, the ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP is the strongest specialist choice. Its 24.1-inch 1080p E-TN panel, 540Hz overclocked refresh rate, native G-SYNC processor, ULMB 2 and Reflex Analyzer are designed for players who can sustain extremely high frame rates. It is not the best monitor for everyone: a 240Hz display is usually the smarter buy below roughly 240 sustained FPS, while a 27-inch 1440p 240Hz–360Hz IPS or OLED monitor is better for mixed gaming and everyday use.

Quick recommendations

Player Best direction Why Main compromise
Serious competitor with 400–500+ FPS ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP 540Hz, native G-SYNC, ULMB 2 and Reflex Analyzer in a compact esports format Expensive 1080p TN image quality
Competitive player at 250–400 FPS BenQ ZOWIE XL2566K or XL2566X+ Fast-TN panels and DyAc motion-clarity technology Limited color, contrast and general-use appeal
PUBG plus other games 27-inch 1440p 240Hz–360Hz IPS Sharper image with strong responsiveness Higher GPU demand
PUBG plus cinematic games and media 1440p OLED at 240Hz or higher Excellent contrast and pixel response Price and burn-in management
Mid-range PC Quality 1080p 240Hz monitor More likely to deliver stable frame rates Less resolution and future headroom
Console player Lower-refresh display matched to the console 500Hz-plus PC monitors provide little value for console PUBG Esports monitors may be poorly balanced for console use

What PUBG actually demands from a monitor

PUBG is harder to run at extreme frame rates than lighter esports shooters, especially in busy cities, large fights and late-game circles. Judge a monitor against the frame rate you sustain during combat, not a peak number while looking at the sky.

  • Average FPS describes typical performance but can hide stutter.
  • 1% lows and worst-case FPS show what happens during demanding fights.
  • Frame-time consistency often matters more than a high but unstable counter.
Refresh rate Time per refresh
144Hz 6.94ms
240Hz 4.17ms
360Hz 2.78ms
500Hz 2.00ms
540Hz 1.85ms
600Hz 1.67ms

The improvement from 144Hz to 240Hz is much larger than the step from 360Hz to 540Hz. Higher refresh can make motion easier to follow, but it does not guarantee better aim, a higher kill/death ratio or lower total system latency.

Best specialist: ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP

The ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP combines a 24.1-inch 1920×1080 E-TN panel with a 540Hz overclocked mode, a built-in NVIDIA G-SYNC processor, ULMB 2 backlight strobing, NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer and an adjustable compact stand. ASUS positions it for professional FPS play; its “fastest” and “50% faster” language is manufacturer positioning rather than an independent performance result.

  • Dual-Mode High-Performance Display: 26.5-inch QHD OLED gaming monitor with versatile dual mode (QHD @ 540Hz or HD @ 720Hz) and 0.02ms response time
  • Advanced Tandem OLED Technology: New Tandem OLED technology delivers 15% higher peak brightness, 25% larger color volume, and 60% longer OLED lifespan versus previous-generation WOLED panels
  • TrueBlack Glossy Panel: New TrueBlack Glossy panel provides a zero-haze surface and exceptionally sharp imagery
  • OLED Care Pro with Neo Proximity Sensor: ASUS OLED Care Pro with Neo Proximity Sensor precisely detects when the user is away and switches to a black screen to reduce the risk of burn-in
  • Exceptional HDR Performance: VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black compliance, 99.5% DCI-P3 gamut, true 10-bit color, and Delta E<2 color difference for astonishing HDR performance

Why it suits competitive PUBG

  • 1080p is comparatively easy for a modern gaming PC to render at very high FPS.
  • The 24-inch format keeps the whole image within comfortable eye movement for many competitors.
  • Native G-SYNC is a useful distinction for NVIDIA GPU owners; RTINGS compares it directly with the ZOWIE XL2586X in its monitor comparison.
  • ULMB 2 is designed to strobe after pixels reach their intended color, reducing perceived blur and crosstalk. ASUS/NVIDIA’s “over 2000Hz effective motion clarity” wording is not a 2000Hz refresh rate.

Who should avoid it

Do not choose the PG248QP if you primarily want 1440p sharpness, strong HDR, cinematic single-player games, accurate color or a large productivity workspace. Its premium price pays for esports behavior, not a universally superior picture. ASUS specifies an NVIDIA RTX 20-series-or-newer GPU and a current Windows version for the 540Hz mode; that is a compatibility requirement, not a promise of PUBG performance. Check the ASUS availability announcement and manual for supported modes.

Best motion-clarity alternative: BenQ ZOWIE XL2566K and XL2566X+

The ZOWIE XL2566K was a major competitive option around the 2024 buying period. The newer XL2566X+ raises the specification to 400Hz while retaining a 24.1-inch 1080p Fast-TN format and DyAc 2 backlight strobing. The older K model can be the better value when discounted; faster is not automatically cheaper or more useful.

ZOWIE lists DisplayPort 1.4 for 400Hz and limits HDMI 2.0 to 240Hz on the X+ model. Its guidance starts around RTX 30-series or RX 6000-series graphics and a 13th-generation Intel or Ryzen 5000-series-or-newer CPU. These are recommendations, not guarantees. See the official XL2566X+ page and XL2566K page.

DyAc is most effective when frame rate and refresh rate are stable. Like ULMB 2, strobing can reduce brightness, expose flicker to sensitive users and generally cannot operate alongside variable refresh rate. A well-tuned 240Hz strobe mode can look clearer than a faster display used with unsuitable settings.

When 27-inch 1440p is the better PUBG monitor

A 27-inch 1440p 240Hz or 360Hz IPS monitor is the best compromise for many players. It provides a sharper desktop and more detailed terrain while remaining highly responsive. OLED versions add near-instant pixel response and strong contrast.

  • Choose 1440p when you use one monitor for PUBG, other games, work and media.
  • Choose 1080p when maximum FPS, a compact esports screen and motion strobing are your priorities.
  • Remember that 1440p increases GPU load. It may produce lower real-world combat FPS than 1080p, weakening the case for 360Hz-plus.
  • OLED requires attention to the manufacturer’s burn-in policy and panel-care routines, particularly with static HUD elements.

Higher resolution does not automatically make enemies easier to see. Visibility also depends on screen size, viewing distance, render scale, anti-aliasing, textures, shadows, eyesight, sharpness and field of view.

Is 240Hz, 360Hz or 540Hz worth it?

For most PUBG players, 240Hz is the practical competitive sweet spot. Consider 360Hz when your system holds roughly 300–360 FPS during real fights. Consider 500–540Hz only when you consistently approach 500 FPS, compete seriously and accept a 1080p TN screen. Below roughly 200–220 sustained FPS, spend the money on a stable 240Hz monitor or a CPU/GPU upgrade instead.

NVIDIA’s battle-royale guidance supports the general relationship between high FPS, high refresh and smoother target tracking, but it does not establish that a particular monitor will improve an individual player’s results.

TN, IPS or OLED?

Panel Strengths for PUBG Weaknesses
TN Fast refresh, strong strobing options and competitive motion clarity Inferior contrast, viewing angles and colors
IPS Good speed with better colors and viewing angles Response behavior and strobing quality vary by model
OLED Very fast pixels, excellent contrast and dark-scene performance Cost, burn-in considerations, brightness and text compromises on some models

Panel labels are not a complete ranking. Independent response-time, overshoot, input-lag and motion-clarity measurements matter more than a “1ms” or “0.2ms” manufacturer claim.

VRR, G-SYNC and backlight strobing

G-SYNC or FreeSync can reduce tearing and smooth fluctuating frame rates below the monitor’s ceiling. If your FPS is already very high and stable, a fixed-refresh setup may better suit a minimum-latency priority. Results depend on the GPU, drivers, cable, firmware and refresh range; G-SYNC alone does not guarantee lower total system latency.

Strobing technologies such as ULMB 2 and DyAc trade brightness and flexibility for clearer motion. Use VRR for changing frame rates, or strobing when FPS is stable and matched to refresh; they are not simply additive features.

Set up the monitor correctly

  1. Right-click the Windows desktop, open Display settings, choose Advanced display, select the monitor and set the highest available refresh rate. Confirm it in the monitor’s on-screen display.
  2. For NVIDIA hardware, open NVIDIA Control Panel → Display → Change resolution. Select the monitor, choose the resolution under the PC section, select the refresh rate and apply.
  3. Use the discrete GPU output, not the motherboard video output. Use DisplayPort where the monitor requires it and the included or correctly rated cable.
  4. Enable the monitor’s overclock mode in its OSD if required, update Windows and GPU drivers, and avoid bandwidth-limiting docks, adapters, KVMs and receivers.
  5. If the rate disappears after sleep or input switching, recheck the cable, active input, exclusive-fullscreen mode and OSD overclock setting.

ZOWIE documents the NVIDIA resolution path and cable guidance in its support FAQ.

Later 600Hz context

The ZOWIE XL2586X+ is a later-generation boundary case, not a normal 2024 recommendation. It offers 600Hz at 1920×1080 with Fast TN, DyAc 2, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4. ZOWIE requires Windows 11 for 600Hz, limits older Windows versions to 500Hz and recommends RTX 40-series or RX 7000-series-class hardware. Its existence reinforces the rule that advertised refresh is useful only when the game and PC can sustain it. See the official product page.

Choose by your actual PUBG frame rate

  • Below 200–220 FPS: buy a good 240Hz display and improve frame-time consistency.
  • About 240 FPS sustained: 240Hz is a logical match.
  • 300–360 FPS in fights: 360Hz becomes reasonable.
  • Near 500 FPS with serious competitive goals: 500–540Hz can be justified.
  • Unstable FPS: favor a stable lower refresh rate, VRR or a better-balanced 1440p display over a rarely used maximum mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 240Hz enough for PUBG?

Yes. For most players, a stable 240Hz display is a better match than an expensive 360Hz or 540Hz monitor that the PC cannot drive consistently.

Is 1440p better than 1080p for PUBG?

1440p is sharper and more versatile, while 1080p makes very high, consistent FPS easier. Neither resolution automatically improves enemy visibility.

Is OLED good for PUBG?

OLED offers excellent contrast and pixel response, but check burn-in coverage and care requirements before using it for long sessions with static HUD elements.

Should I use DyAc or ULMB 2?

Use either when FPS is stable and matched to refresh and you prefer clearer motion. Use VRR instead when frame rate fluctuates; strobing commonly disables VRR.

Can a laptop run a 240Hz or 360Hz monitor?

Only if its GPU output, cable or dock supports the required bandwidth and the laptop can sustain the target PUBG frame rate. Connect directly to the discrete-GPU output where possible.

The Bottom Line

Buy the ASUS PG248QP only if competitive PUBG, very high sustained FPS and motion clarity outweigh resolution and image quality. Choose a discounted ZOWIE XL2566K or the XL2566X+ for a Fast-TN alternative, a 27-inch 1440p 240Hz–360Hz IPS/OLED monitor for balanced use, or a quality 240Hz display when your PC cannot reliably exceed it.
