Its price and limited availability can change, so check the live listing before buying. For a less expensive LCD or a wider screen, the KTC H27T22C-3 and Koorui 34E6UC are worth considering; for esports, MSI’s 500Hz MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50 is a specialist option only if its price is confirmed under $400.

Buy at: $350 or less is an excellent price; $351–$400 is still compelling if the model suits your use. Above $400, wait for a deal or compare alternatives rather than treating the August price as permanent.
Important port limit: Dell specifies up to 2560×1440 at 240Hz over DisplayPort, but 1440p at up to 120Hz over HDMI. That distinction matters for consoles and HDMI-only devices. A 240Hz PC specification does not mean a console will output 240Hz to this monitor.
Not for everyone: OLED can suffer image retention or burn-in over time, particularly with prolonged static content such as taskbars, browser chrome, or fixed work applications. Risk is not the same as inevitable failure, but buyers who leave a desktop up for long periods should prefer an LCD or be diligent about panel-care features. OLED’s full-screen brightness can also be less suitable for a very bright room, and some users notice text-fringing related to subpixel layout. Check the warranty terms, including whether burn-in is covered, before purchase; do not assume coverage.

The 0.03ms figure is a manufacturer response-time specification, not an independent measurement of total motion performance. Likewise, OLED contrast does not by itself establish how bright or effective HDR will be in every scene.
Best for esports if the price is right: MSI MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50
MSI’s MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50 is the extreme-refresh alternative: a 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED specified for 500Hz and 0.03ms GTG. MSI also lists HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4a, USB-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode and 15W USB-C power delivery. See the MSI specification sheet and official U.S. store listing.
Its 500Hz ceiling is most relevant to serious competitive players whose PC can render very high frame rates in the games they play. It is not an automatic upgrade for a system running games at 60–144fps, or for a buyer who values 4K detail, desk work, or lower cost more than maximum refresh. The official price could not be verified in the available August 2026 information, so treat it as a candidate—not a confirmed under-$400 recommendation—until the live price is checked. At more than $400, compare it against balanced 240Hz OLED monitors instead. The 15W USB-C output is useful for light charging, but is not a replacement for the charger supplied with many performance laptops.

Best lower-cost LCD direction: KTC H27T22C-3
The KTC H27T22C-3 is a budget 1440p gaming option to investigate if you want to spend substantially less than $400, use the monitor for static desktop work, or simply prefer LCD ownership over OLED. PC Gamer names it its best budget 1440p gaming monitor for 2026, noting its low price and strong HDR performance for its class. That is an editorial assessment, not a substitute for checking the precise listing, current price, warranty, and specifications before ordering.
Compared with the Alienware, an LCD choice avoids OLED-specific burn-in precautions and may be the more comfortable all-day desktop screen. The trade-off is typically weaker black levels and contrast than OLED; the quality of HDR depends on the display’s actual brightness and local-dimming behavior, not just an HDR label. Check the exact SKU because similarly named monitor models can differ.
Best ultrawide: Koorui 34E6UC, around $250–$300
If immersion and extra horizontal workspace matter more than maximum competitive responsiveness, the Koorui 34E6UC is a budget ultrawide to watch. PC Gamer reported that it had recently fallen to around $250 after fluctuating as high as roughly $400 earlier in 2026. Its 3440×1440 resolution offers a wider view than standard 2560×1440, which can add atmosphere and help with multitasking. It also asks more of the graphics card: there are about 34% more pixels to render than at 2560×1440. Check that your games support ultrawide well, that the curved 34-inch panel fits your desk, and that your PC can sustain the frame rate you want. Competitive players may prefer a standard 16:9 display for focus and broad game compatibility.

1440p or 4K?
For most PC gamers under $400, 1440p is the practical balance. It is sharper than 1080p at a typical 27-inch desk distance, while leaving more GPU headroom for high refresh rates such as 180Hz or 240Hz. 4K gives finer detail, particularly on larger screens and in slower-paced games, but requires substantially more rendering power to maintain high frame rates. A 32-inch 4K display can make more sense for productivity, cinematic games, or console use if its refresh rate, VRR and price meet your needs. Neither resolution is universally better; match it to your graphics hardware, games and viewing distance. RTINGS’ gaming-monitor guidance likewise frames the choice as a trade-off between high refresh at lower resolutions and 4K detail.
OLED, IPS, VA or mini-LED?
- OLED/QD-OLED: Choose it for deep blacks, contrast and fast pixel response, especially for varied gaming in a controlled-light room. Consider burn-in risk, panel-care routines, full-screen brightness and text appearance if desktop work dominates.
- IPS/Fast IPS: A sensible general-purpose option for gaming and work, especially in brighter rooms or with static content. It avoids OLED’s burn-in concern, but black levels are usually weaker; IPS glow and backlight bleed can vary by unit.
- VA: Often offers stronger contrast than ordinary IPS at a lower price, making it appealing for dark-room play and some curved ultrawides. Dark transitions can smear on some models, and performance varies across panels.
- Mini-LED: Can combine high brightness with local-dimming contrast without OLED’s burn-in concern. However, dimming zones may produce blooming around bright objects, and implementation varies. An HDR badge alone does not guarantee convincing HDR.
How much refresh rate do you need?
- 144–180Hz: A strong mainstream target for smooth PC gaming.
- 240Hz: Worth considering for competitive shooters if your hardware can deliver high frame rates and you value the extra motion headroom.
- 360–500Hz: Specialist territory. The benefit is most relevant to competitive players and systems producing exceptionally high frame rates; it is not a better default for every game or budget.
A high refresh-rate panel cannot make a GPU render frames it cannot produce. Nor does a tiny advertised response time tell the whole story: motion clarity depends on the panel’s behavior across transitions, refresh settings, and other factors.

PC or console?
For a PC, DisplayPort is often the route to a monitor’s highest refresh rate; confirm the exact resolution and refresh supported by the monitor and graphics card. For PS5, PS5 Pro, or Xbox Series X|S, verify the HDMI capabilities at the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use, plus HDMI VRR support and whether 1440p output is accepted. Consoles commonly top out at 120Hz, so a 240Hz or 500Hz PC specification does not transfer directly. Check HDR behavior, headphone output or speakers if needed, and whether switching inputs is convenient. The AW2726DM’s 1440p HDMI limit of 120Hz is a useful reminder to check port-by-port specifications rather than assuming every input supports the headline maximum.
Check ergonomics and connections
Prioritize panel performance first, but check whether the stand provides the height, tilt, swivel or pivot adjustment you need. Confirm VESA mounting if you use an arm. HDMI 2.1 matters for some console use; USB-C video and power delivery can simplify a laptop setup, though low-wattage USB-C output may not charge a gaming laptop adequately. A USB hub, KVM switch, speakers, headphone jack, OSD controls and firmware-update method are useful conveniences, not reasons to overlook a weak panel or poor price.
Buying checks before checkout
- Confirm the exact model and SKU. Similar names can hide different panels, refresh rates, stands, or regional specs.
- Check the live price and stock. The Alienware’s $349.99 price was observed in August 2026 and Dell marked availability as limited or subject to change. The MSI’s current U.S. price was not confirmed. The Koorui price is deal-dependent.
- Read the port limits. Look up refresh rate by input and resolution, not just the largest number in a headline.
- Match the display to your PC and desk. High refresh depends on frame rate; ultrawide requires more rendering and more desk space.
- Review return and warranty terms. This matters especially for OLED burn-in coverage, LCD uniformity variation, and a panel that does not suit your setup.
