There is no one best Fortnite PC for every player: the right build depends on your budget, resolution, refresh-rate target, and whether you prioritize competitive settings, Epic-quality visuals, or creating islands in UEFN. Epic’s published reference for its Epic Quality Preset calls for an RTX 3070- or RX 6700 XT-class graphics card with at least 8 GB of VRAM; that is a hardware specification, not a promise of a particular frame rate.
Start with the Fortnite experience you want
Choose your target before choosing parts. Competitive play at reduced graphics settings and high refresh rates is a different workload from using Fortnite’s Unreal Engine 5 visual features at high quality. Building or editing islands in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) also changes the memory target.
- Competitive settings: Prioritize a system suited to your chosen resolution and high-refresh display. Epic’s published requirements do not specify a competitive frame-rate target or a parts list for achieving one.
- Epic-quality visuals: Use Epic’s Epic Quality Preset specifications as a published hardware reference, while treating them as specifications rather than a benchmark.
- UEFN creation: Account for the tool’s higher recommended system memory target: 32 GB or more.
Before buying, settle on your budget, monitor resolution, desired refresh rate, and whether creation is part of the plan. Without those choices—and testing on a defined build, settings, and game version—an FPS guarantee would be misleading.
Epic’s Fortnite PC requirements, compared
Epic separates general recommended requirements from the more demanding Epic Quality Preset. Its support page also lists minimum requirements, which Epic warns may not be enough to run the highest settings. The figures below are official thresholds, not a 2026 benchmark comparison.

Source for the requirements in all three tiers: Epic Games’ Fortnite PC system requirements. Meeting a listed tier does not establish a specific FPS, and the Epic Quality row should not be read as a guarantee of performance at a particular resolution or refresh rate.
Why graphics settings change the GPU you need
Fortnite’s documented UE5 features include Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, and Temporal Super Resolution (TSR). Epic describes TSR’s Performance option as prioritizing frame rate by rendering at a lower resolution, while Quality prioritizes the final image. That tradeoff helps explain why a competitive reduced-settings target and a visual-quality target should not be treated as the same build goal.

Epic’s documentation also says hardware ray tracing applies to Lumen Global Illumination and Reflections, and that Nanite must be enabled with either effect set to Lumen High or Epic. Those options represent a different graphics workload from prioritizing frame rate. The feature documentation dates to Fortnite Chapter 4’s launch, so it documents those feature relationships and tradeoffs, not necessarily every current setting label or how today’s drivers and upscalers behave.

What a current budget gaming PC example looks like
PC Gamer’s gaming-PC guide, dated August 21, 2026, lists the ABS Cyclone Aqua with an Intel Core i5-14400F, Nvidia RTX 5060, 32 GB DDR4-3200, and a 1 TB SSD as its budget gaming-PC pick. The guide describes it as suitable for moderate 1080p and 1440p gaming. It does not establish Fortnite-specific FPS for that configuration, so use it as an example of a current system tier—not as a validated Fortnite build or a guarantee of performance. The guide also notes that a higher configuration may use an RTX 5060 Ti with 16 GB of VRAM.

Building Fortnite islands in UEFN?
UEFN is a separate, PC-only tool. Epic’s recommendation table lists 16 GB RAM as the minimum and 32 GB or more as recommended, along with at least 8 GB of video memory, a DirectX 12-compatible graphics card, and NVMe storage. If you intend to play and create on the same PC, 32 GB is the better-supported memory target for including UEFN; for Fortnite play alone, Epic’s general recommendation is 16 GB or higher.

PC Gamer reported on February 12, 2026, that Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU would be required for Fortnite tournament participation from February 19, 2026. The report said Epic expected Windows 11-compatible PCs likely to meet the requirements, though BIOS settings might need to be enabled. This is tournament eligibility context, not a general requirement to play Fortnite; confirm the current rule with Epic before relying on it for an event.

Quick Recap
How to choose your build target
- Set your budget and display target. Decide on the resolution you play at and the refresh rate you want to use.
- Choose the workload. Decide whether reduced-settings competitive play, Epic-quality visuals, or UEFN creation is the priority.
- Use the relevant reference point. Compare a play-focused system with Epic’s general recommended tier, or use its Epic Quality specifications as a higher-visual-quality reference. For UEFN, include its 32 GB-or-more recommended RAM target.
- Check the complete configuration. Verify the exact GPU and VRAM, processor, RAM, NVMe storage, operating-system compatibility, and—if entering tournaments—the applicable security settings.
- Look for evidence that matches your target. A general gaming-PC recommendation or official hardware tier is not a Fortnite FPS result. For a frame-rate claim, seek testing for the exact configuration, resolution, settings, and game version you care about.
