What to expect from the October 29, 2026 update
The update is scheduled for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29, 2026. PLAION describes it as a free upgrade for existing owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, rather than a remake or remaster; its FAQ also says ray tracing is not included. Announced graphics and performance: what the numbers do—and do not—tell you
Deep Silver says the update brings 4K textures to all platforms. For console, it advertises true 4K at 60 FPS and upscaled 4K at 120 FPS when paired with the right monitor or TV hardware. The announcement does not identify these as selectable in-game modes, specify the display connection or features required, or explain how the targets differ across PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Do not assume a particular resolution/frame-rate menu or that every Series console has the same output targets.

The publisher also announces higher-quality lighting, shadows, and particle effects, plus runtime hardware tessellation and displacement on consoles. It names PSSR for PS5 Pro, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing for Xbox Series X, and Spatial Audio on Xbox platforms. These are platform-specific announcements, not evidence of user-facing toggles or measured image-quality differences. The announcement does not establish a setting-by-setting comparison between consoles.
Deep Silver additionally announces Adaptive Triggers for DualSense and Impulse Triggers on Xbox controllers, alongside Power Optimized Mode on Xbox and Power Saver Mode support for PlayStation. It has not stated whether players can tune or disable trigger effects in either game.

Which graphics settings should you choose?
Until the update is live and its menus are verified, there is no reliable “best graphics settings” recipe to follow. In particular, do not look for a performance/quality switch or prescribe a resolution option based only on the two advertised output targets: neither the existence nor the names of such controls are confirmed.
After launch, compare only options the game actually presents. For a graphics or performance choice, check the stated resolution and frame-rate target, image stability and detail, and whether your display supports the relevant output. A 120 FPS target is conditional on suitable monitor or TV hardware, but the announcement does not provide the exact compatibility requirements. If you are choosing a display specifically for that target, wait for the launch documentation to clarify them before buying on that basis.

Accessibility: what is documented and what remains unconfirmed
The available official materials do not establish a comprehensive accessibility menu for the forthcoming console update. Subtitle customization, color filters, aim assistance, sensitivity or dead-zone controls, button remapping, and trigger-effect controls remain unconfirmed in the material available before launch. That is not proof the games lack those features; it means there is not yet a sound basis for recommending exact values or claiming they are present or absent.
An official Xbox-hosted help manual documents Crouch Toggle and core actions including jump, use/reload/interact, aim/alternate fire, fire, sprint, melee, journal, and pause. It also lists inventory and equipment actions for medkits, gas-mask filters, night vision, and the gas mask. This is useful evidence about documented controls, but the manual predates the console update and does not verify remapping or a broad accessibility suite on PS5 or Xbox Series consoles. The official Xbox listing identifies the bundle; the help manual is available through Xbox’s Metro Redux support materials.

Spartan, Survival, and Ranger modes are not graphics presets
The manual describes Spartan and Survival as play styles, and Ranger Mode as a challenge/immersion option with no HUD/UI, deadlier combat, and limited resources. Ranger Mode therefore should not be treated as a visibility aid or accessibility setting: removing the interface makes on-screen information less available, while the combat and resource conditions increase difficulty.
PS5 or Xbox Series X|S: is one the better place to play?
The announced feature set does not establish an objectively better console. Some capabilities are platform-specific—PSSR on PS5 Pro, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing on Xbox Series X, and Spatial Audio on Xbox platforms—but the announcement supplies no independent console comparisons, image-quality measurements, or accessibility-feature inventory. Choose based on the console and display you already use, then assess the live options after the update rather than inferring a winner from feature names.

What to check when the update arrives
- Install the October 29, 2026 update for the Redux game you own, then open its live display, graphics, audio, and control menus. Compare the options actually shown with the publisher’s announced targets; do not assume the two games expose identical menus without checking.
- For your display, verify the console’s supported output and refresh-rate capabilities against the game’s own information. The 120 FPS announcement requires suitable monitor or TV hardware, but exact requirements have not been specified.
- For accessibility, inspect each game’s subtitle, visual, aiming, camera, control-remapping, and trigger-feedback options if present. Confirm that changes apply in gameplay before relying on them; the current official pre-release material does not confirm these menu items or values.
- Use the launch patch notes and in-game menus as the authority for exact labels and settings. Deep Silver says full patch notes will be revealed at launch.
