There is no verified universal best preset for System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. Choose a display mode your platform and screen support, then tune visual effects and controls to your preference. Nightdive confirms native 4K on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X|S, with 120Hz support on Xbox Series X|S; those claims do not establish PC performance or settings for other platforms.
What graphics settings should you use?
Start with a resolution and refresh rate supported by your display and hardware. On PC, the official sources do not publish a tested graphics preset, recommended values for individual options, or comparative performance results, so treat any specific “best” PC configuration as a personal choice rather than a verified optimization.
What the remaster changes visually
Nightdive says it modernized the original game’s 3D renderer, adding high-resolution assets, modern materials and shaders, and support for ambient occlusion while addressing older renderer bottlenecks. These are feature descriptions, not a guarantee of a particular image quality or frame rate. Ambient occlusion is an available visual feature; the sources do not specify its performance cost or recommend turning it on or off. If your version exposes the option, compare the look and smoothness on your own system.
Xbox resolution and refresh rate
In a March 20, 2025 interview with Xbox Wire, Nightdive developer Lexi Mayfield said Xbox One X and Xbox Series X|S run natively at 4K, and Xbox Series X|S supports 120Hz. These are platform capabilities, not benchmark results. They should not be generalized to Xbox One, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or PC.

How should you set up controller controls?
The remaster supports controller interface navigation and broad remapping. The best layout depends on comfort and how you use the game’s menus and quick-access items; no binding arrangement is established as objectively best.
Start with the default layout, then adjust
- Quick-access bars are assigned to the bumpers by default.
- Aim can be slowed for more precise targeting.
- Leaning uses one toggle, with the control stick determining the lean direction.
- Nearly all controls can be remapped, except analog-stick looking and walking; a southpaw option swaps the sticks.
Mayfield described the aim and lean options in the Xbox Wire interview: “You can also slow down your aim for the sake of accuracy, and instead of multiple lean buttons there’s now a single lean toggle that uses the control stick for the lean direction.” Try the default arrangement first, then change bindings or aim behavior if menu access, turning, or precise aiming feels awkward.

Account for the PC Patch 1.0.1 defaults
Nightdive’s June 27, 2025 PC Patch 1.0.1 notes say the default controller turning sensitivity increased from 1.0 to 1.5, and the default dead zone changed from 0.1/0.1 to 0.24/0.265. These are defaults recorded for that PC patch, not confirmed current values across every platform or later game version. Check the controls shown in your installed build before using them as a reference.
If turning feels too slow or too fast, adjust sensitivity in small increments. If the sticks respond when untouched, or require more movement than you prefer, experiment with the dead-zone options where available. Controller feel varies by player and hardware; the patch values are a starting reference, not a universal target.

Is mouse and keyboard better?
Nightdive confirms keyboard and mouse support, alongside controller support. The official sources do not provide recommended mouse sensitivity or keybinds, or a head-to-head test showing one input method performs better. Choose based on your platform, familiarity, and comfort navigating the interface. On PC, try the available controls and retain the setup that feels precise and manageable to you.

- Confirm your platform and display. Select a resolution and refresh rate supported by your system and screen; do not infer capabilities from another platform’s specifications.
- Inspect the options in your installed version. Available settings and defaults may differ by platform or patch.
- Tune visual effects to your preference. Treat ambient occlusion as an image-quality choice; no official performance comparison establishes a best setting.
- Test your input method. For a controller, assess turning, dead zones, aim slowing, leaning, and access to quick-access bars. For keyboard and mouse, adjust the available controls to suit your comfort.
Nightdive’s product page lists the remaster for Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle, Epic Games, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Settings and performance claims should still be checked against the particular platform and installed version.
