Best Headphones for Live Streaming: Wired, Closed-Back Picks and How to Choose

Wired, closed-back headphones are a practical default beside a live-streaming mic. Compare comfort, leakage, sound, impedance and specific models before choosing.

For most live streamers monitoring audio beside a separate microphone, wired, closed-back headphones are the practical starting point. Closed earcups help limit sound leaking into a nearby mic, while a wired connection avoids Bluetooth as an added source of monitoring delay. Neither choice guarantees zero mic bleed or zero end-to-end latency: fit, volume, mic position, room acoustics, software buffers and the rest of the monitoring chain still matter.

What matters most when choosing streaming headphones

Closed-back design helps keep headphone sound out of your mic

Closed-back headphones cover the ear with a sealed cup, which can reduce sound escaping toward a nearby or sensitive microphone. Sennheiser positions its closed-back HD models for recording and monitoring, and RTINGS recommends closed-backs to reduce the chance that a microphone will pick up headphone leakage. That is risk reduction, not a promise of silence: leakage depends on listening level, fit, mic placement and the room.

Open-back headphones can be useful for critical listening and judging how a mix translates, but their open construction makes them a less straightforward choice beside an open microphone. Sennheiser positions its open-back HD models for critical listening and mix translation, in contrast to its recording-and-monitoring positioning for closed-back models.

Wired avoids Bluetooth as an added latency source

When you monitor your own voice or a live program mix, a noticeable delay can make speaking feel unnatural. RTINGS cautions that Bluetooth can introduce latency that interferes with live monitoring. A wired headphone avoids Bluetooth in the signal path, but it cannot eliminate delay caused by an interface, mixer, software, buffers or device configuration. No one headphone connection guarantees zero total monitoring latency.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Comfort, sound and compatibility are setup-specific

  • Session length and fit: consider headband pressure, pad material and earcup space for the length of your streams. A comfortable fit can vary between people and even between wears.
  • Speech monitoring: prioritize a presentation that lets you catch changes in voice level, distortion and unwanted noise. If you also edit or mix, remember that headphone bass and treble balance can affect your judgments.
  • Connector and impedance: check the plug, adapter and impedance against the output on your computer, interface, mixer or controller. A headphone that is difficult for the source to drive may not reach useful levels cleanly.
  • Serviceability: replaceable pads and a detachable cable can make wear or cable damage easier to address than on a design with fixed parts.

Shortlist: headphones for different streaming setups

These options are grounded in manufacturer specifications and published reviews, not a single dedicated live-streaming test. RTINGS’ guide is about podcast headphones; its rankings and observations should be read in that context. MusicRadar’s DT 770 PRO comments are reviewer opinions, not universal measurements.

Model Why consider it Trade-off or fit note
Sennheiser HD 480 PRO RTINGS’ 2026 podcast-headphone guide names it its best tested podcast headphone and describes it as closed-back, comfortable and low-leakage. The two-sided cable connection offers flexibility. RTINGS notes that fit adjustment can affect consistency between wears. The guide’s ranking is for podcast headphones, not a dedicated live-streaming comparison.
Shure SRH840A Shure specifies closed-back circumaural construction, padded comfort for extended use, a balanced response, a detachable locking cable and a two-year warranty. Its replaceable cable and ear-pad accessories support serviceability. These are manufacturer specifications and positioning, not an independent comparative streaming test.
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO RTINGS and MusicRadar describe it as a closed-back monitoring or podcast option; MusicRadar’s reviewer highlights comfort and isolation. RTINGS reports that it can leak at high volume and that the 250-ohm version may benefit from an amplifier; 32- and 80-ohm versions are also offered. MusicRadar reviewer Dave Clews describes a subtle bass bump and high-frequency emphasis that can sound harsh on sibilant material.
Sony MDR-7506 RTINGS describes clear, detailed voice presentation and notes that an 1/8-to-1/4-inch adapter is included. RTINGS says isolation is weaker than some competing models, and comfort and build are less strong than pricier alternatives.
Audio-Technica ATH-M20x RTINGS includes it as a lower-cost podcast option and describes clear mids and a reasonably comfortable, breathable fit. RTINGS says it leaks more than the Sony, though not much in its assessment.
Sennheiser HMD 27 A purpose-built professional wired broadcast headset with closed earcups, a dynamic microphone, a switchable boom side and ActiveGard peak limiting. It is a specialized integrated headset, rather than the default choice for someone who already has a separate mic. Check the connector and capsule variant against your interface.

Which option fits your setup?

  • You already have a separate microphone: start with a wired, closed-back model. Compare comfort and fit first, then confirm connector and impedance compatibility. The HD 480 PRO, SRH840A, DT 770 PRO, MDR-7506 and ATH-M20x each have different published trade-offs rather than one universal winner.
  • You need integrated commentary audio: consider a broadcast headset such as the HMD 27 if its connector and capsule variant suit your equipment. Its boom mic and closed earcups address a different need from headphones paired with a separate microphone.
  • You prioritize critical listening or mix translation: open-back headphones may suit that listening task, but account for the greater practical concern of headphone sound reaching a nearby mic.
  • You are considering a DT 770 PRO: choose the impedance variant with your output device in mind. RTINGS notes the 250-ohm model may benefit from an amp, while the 32- and 80-ohm variants can connect more directly to devices such as a laptop.

Keep headphone monitoring separate from keeping a stream online

Headphones help you hear your audio; they do not keep a video stream running if your computer or connection goes offline. If your separate goal is to keep an uploaded video live on YouTube 24/7, StreamNeo runs that stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer does not have to stay on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube only. The first day is free with no card; start a StreamNeo free day.
