Hetzner identifies India among the markets its Singapore location serves, making Singapore a sensible first candidate—not a proven fastest route for every Indian city, internet provider, or YouTube ingest connection. The only reliable way to choose for your setup is to compare locations from the network that will actually send your stream.
Why Singapore is the first location to test
Hetzner announced its Singapore Cloud location on 6 August 2024 and described it as serving markets including India. Its Singapore Cloud page also promotes the service to customers in India. These are Hetzner’s statements about the location’s intended reach, not independent measurements of latency or stream stability to YouTube. Hetzner’s Singapore launch announcement and its Singapore Cloud page support treating it as a practical starting point.
Physical proximity alone does not establish the fastest route. The path from your encoder or relay server to YouTube’s ingest service affects the incoming feed; YouTube then processes and delivers it to viewers. A server location that improves ingest does not, by itself, prove lower end-to-end delay for viewers in India.
Which Hetzner locations should you compare?
| Location | What is established | How to use it in your decision |
|---|---|---|
Singapore (sin, ap-southeast) |
Hetzner lists Singapore as a Cloud location and explicitly names India among the markets it serves. Hetzner’s announcement; Hetzner location list. | First candidate to test for a stream aimed mainly at India. No route-specific performance guarantee is established. |
| Falkenstein, Nuremberg, Helsinki | Hetzner lists these in the eu-central network zone. Hetzner location list. |
Consider them as comparisons if your source network routes well through Europe or your workload has other location needs. No comparison measurements are available here. |
| Ashburn, Hillsboro | Hetzner lists these US locations in separate US network zones. Hetzner location list. | Usually lower-priority candidates for an India-focused stream unless your own route tests or workload requirements point to them; they are not established measured losers. |
Hetzner’s location documentation says it was last changed on 3 November 2021, so confirm which locations and network zones are currently available in the Hetzner Console before deployment. Hetzner Docs: Locations.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Separate server-to-YouTube ingest from viewer latency
Live latency is the delay between capture and playback. The server or encoder’s route to YouTube is only one part of that experience: YouTube’s processing, delivery, buffering, and network conditions also matter. YouTube notes that network congestion and other factors can cause live-stream issues and delay a stream. YouTube Help: Understand Live Streaming Latency.
Choose the YouTube latency mode for the show rather than assuming a nearer Hetzner location solves viewer delay:

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Normal latency: intended for non-interactive streams. YouTube describes it as the highest-quality option for viewers because it has the least buffering; all resolutions and live features are supported.
- Low latency: intended for limited interaction. YouTube says most viewers will experience latency under 10 seconds. It does not support 4K.
- Ultra-low latency: intended for real-time engagement. YouTube says most viewers will experience latency under five seconds, but buffering may increase. It does not support 4K.
These are YouTube’s published descriptions and typical viewer ranges, not guarantees for a particular stream or Indian ISP. YouTube Help: Understand Live Streaming Latency.
How to test the best location for your stream
- Choose candidates in the Hetzner Console. Begin with Singapore, then select one or more available alternatives that make sense for your source network or workload. Confirm location availability there before creating servers.
- Run the test from the real source network. Use the city, ISP, encoder or relay setup, streaming protocol, and bitrate you expect to use for the event. A test from a different network may follow a different route.
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom above the combined stream bitrate, including primary and backup feeds if you use them. The available upload capacity must cover the total bitrate. YouTube Help: Streaming Tips.
- Rehearse a representative stream. Use similar audio and on-screen motion, run the stream long enough to expose instability, and monitor stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing before the event and monitoring stream health. YouTube Help: Choose Live Encoder Settings, Bitrates, and Resolutions.
- Record comparable observations. For each location, note the source city and ISP, candidate location, ingest method, bitrate, latency mode, test duration, stream-health indications, dropped frames, and disconnects. Compare the same workload rather than relying on a server’s distance from India.
- Choose the mode and location together. If viewer interaction is central, weigh the buffering trade-off of low or ultra-low latency; if you need 4K, those modes are unavailable, so assess normal latency. Rehearse with the exact mode intended for the broadcast.
This comparison method follows YouTube’s network and stream-health guidance; it is not a published Hetzner-to-YouTube benchmark. Available locations and protocol details can change, so verify both in the Console and YouTube’s current guidance before an event.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—settle
Official Hetzner material establishes that Singapore Cloud is available and is positioned for markets including India. The location list establishes other Cloud locations to compare. YouTube’s guidance explains latency modes, bandwidth headroom, and stream-health testing. These sources do not establish a reproducible latency, jitter, packet-loss, or ingest-route comparison from Hetzner locations to YouTube for Indian source networks or viewer cities.
Accordingly, Singapore is the best-supported first location to test, but a universal winner remains unestablished. For a location comparison you publish or use to make a production decision, report the actual source network and test conditions alongside observed stability.
