Choose OBS if you want to run it locally
OBS is free software, but “free” does not mean unattended: your computer, OBS, and internet connection carry the operational burden. This route suits a creator who wants local control and can monitor or maintain the setup. It is a poor fit if the stream must continue through power, network, or computer interruptions at home.
Compare the details that affect a music channel
- Continuous looping: Confirm that the service supports a genuinely continuous playlist, not just a long scheduled event.
- Duration: Find out whether a provider caps a single broadcast or requires a restart.
- Control: Check whether you can reorder or replace playlist items and schedule starts.
- Destination: Verify YouTube support specifically; multistreaming claims alone do not establish 24/7 playlist support.
- Rights and recovery: You are responsible for music rights, and you need a plan for copyright interruptions as well as technical disconnects.
- Total cost: Include subscription charges and the cost of keeping a local computer and connection running, if applicable.
Music rights and YouTube interruptions
A working loop does not grant permission to stream the music. YouTube’s official live-stream terms say creators represent that they have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Its copyright guidance for live streams says a stream can be interrupted or terminated when third-party content remains. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license by itself does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming. Resolve allowlisting with the rights holder before going live, and keep documentation of your permissions.
Archives and monetization are separate questions
A 24/7 broadcast may not produce a complete replay
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance. Treat a continuous broadcast as a live destination, not as a dependable way to create a complete VOD; keep your own source files if you need an archive.

Looping does not guarantee monetization eligibility
YouTube’s channel monetization policies, clarified on July 15, 2025 to address repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content,” say monetized content should be original and authentic rather than generic or repetitive. A technically valid stream, or a playlist of licensed tracks, does not by itself establish eligibility for the YouTube Partner Program.
YouTube reported that channels using live automatic mid-roll ads saw over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour on average versus channels that did not enable the feature, across 207 countries in January 2024. That is a historical platform-wide comparison, not an earnings forecast for an individual music stream, and YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve.
