There is no verified cheapest Linux VPS for this job. A meaningful low-cost choice depends on your broadcast bitrate, sustained encoding workload, outbound data allowance, region, and overage charges—not just the advertised monthly price. A Linux VPS can run FFmpeg continuously and send a prerecorded video or playlist to YouTube Live, but you must check the provider’s current terms and test the server under your actual workload before trusting it with a 24/7 channel.

What “low-cost” means for a 24/7 stream

A VPS is a rented virtual server. You install and administer the streaming software, store or upload your videos, and keep an encoder process running to send the broadcast to YouTube. The VPS provider supplies the server; YouTube supplies the ingest URL and stream key. You remain responsible for configuring the system and recovering it when something fails.

No current provider plans, prices, sustained CPU performance, or outbound-transfer limits are established here, so naming a cheapest provider or ranking VPS plans would be guesswork. Compare the full cost and performance for your location and workload before buying.

Compare these costs and capabilities

  • Monthly total: Include the base plan, predictable outbound-transfer overages, storage charges, and any other recurring costs that apply.
  • Outbound transfer: Confirm how much is included, whether it is capped or metered, and what happens when you exceed it. A continuous stream sends data for every hour it runs.
  • Sustained encoding capacity: Check performance under continuous load for your chosen resolution and codec. Burst specifications alone do not show whether the server can encode reliably all day.
  • Storage and media workflow: Make sure the server can hold your files and that uploading or updating a playlist is practical for you.
  • Region and network route: Choose a location with a stable route to YouTube’s ingest service; a low monthly price does not establish that the route will be reliable.
  • Administration time: Budget for Linux updates, process supervision, monitoring, storage management, and troubleshooting—or compare that work with a managed streaming service.

Estimate the data transfer before choosing a plan

Use the encoded bitrate to estimate the stream’s outbound data, then compare that estimate with the VPS plan’s included monthly transfer and overage terms. For a steady bitrate, a useful approximation is:

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Monthly data in GB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × 10.8 × hours streamed ÷ 1,000.

For example, at 8 Mbps for 24 hours a day over a 30-day month, the estimate is about 2,074 GB (roughly 2.1 TB, using decimal GB). At 14 Mbps under the same assumptions, it is about 3,629 GB (roughly 3.6 TB). These are estimates of the encoded stream, not a provider quote; actual usage can vary with bitrate behavior and service overhead. Check how your provider measures transfer and whether it charges overages.

Configure the YouTube broadcast settings

YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends testing your upload bitrate, using representative audio and motion, and watching stream health. For H.264, it recommends 8 Mbps for 720p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30. It also recommends CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, AAC or MP3 audio, and RTMPS for encrypted delivery. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode or upload at those settings. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

  • Protocol: Prefer RTMPS where your encoder supports it; YouTube describes it as a secure extension of RTMP.
  • Video bitrate: Use a bitrate suitable for the selected resolution and frame rate, then test the actual VPS upload and stream health.
  • Rate control: Set constant bitrate (CBR) as YouTube recommends.
  • Keyframes: Set a 2-second interval.
  • Audio: Use AAC or MP3, and verify that the source video’s audio is present and correctly mapped.
  • Test content: Test with footage containing the motion and audio characteristics of the videos you intend to broadcast; a low-motion test clip may not reflect the real workload.

Run prerecorded video from a Linux VPS with FFmpeg

The basic workflow is to prepare the VPS and media, create a YouTube Live broadcast, and start FFmpeg with the broadcast’s server URL and stream key. FFmpeg command options depend on whether you are copying an already encoded file or re-encoding it; do not assume a single command fits every source file or server capacity.

  1. Choose and prepare the VPS. Select a Linux plan only after checking outbound transfer, storage, sustained CPU terms, region, and overages. Install FFmpeg using the package method supported by your Linux distribution, and upload a test video.
  2. Enable YouTube live streaming. If this is the first time the channel is streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  3. Create the live broadcast in YouTube Studio. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Treat the key as a password: anyone with it may be able to stream to your channel. Do not paste it into public scripts, logs, or support posts.
  4. Choose how FFmpeg handles the video. Stream-copying can avoid re-encoding when the file’s video and audio formats and settings are suitable for YouTube and the output stream. If they are not suitable, configure FFmpeg to encode to the chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR behavior, and keyframe interval. Re-encoding uses server resources continuously; verify sustained performance with your actual content before relying on it.
  5. Send the stream to YouTube. Configure FFmpeg to read the file or playlist and publish to the YouTube ingest URL using the stream key. Keep credentials out of shell history and any script or log accessible to others. Confirm that YouTube Studio reports a healthy incoming stream before making the broadcast public.
  6. Keep the process running and monitor it. Use a process supervisor appropriate to your Linux setup so that you can detect an exited encoder and restart it. Monitor FFmpeg output, server CPU and storage, outbound transfer, and YouTube stream health; a VPS does not remove the need for administration.
  7. Test recovery and content changes. Check that the process recovers as intended after a restart or temporary network interruption, and verify that playlist changes do not leave FFmpeg reading a missing or inaccessible file.

Important YouTube limits, rights, and monetization rules

Do not rely on a single 24-hour archive

YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Do not assume one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will be archived in full. If you need an archive, plan the broadcast schedule around the limit and verify the resulting archives in YouTube Studio. The current encoder workflow and archiving guidance is in YouTube’s live-stream setup page.

Continuous playback does not grant content rights

You are responsible for having the necessary rights for every video and audio asset you broadcast, including music rights for live and archived content. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place that responsibility on the content provider. Check licenses and permissions before starting the stream; owning a copy of a recording does not by itself establish broadcast rights.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Monetization is a separate eligibility question

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. The policies describe repetitive or mass-produced content as potentially ineligible and require meaningful original contribution for reused material to qualify for monetization. Keeping a stream live continuously does not itself make it eligible. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and YouTube’s July 2025 response to creator questions about YPP policies.

Alternatives to administering a VPS

If your priority is streaming prerecorded videos continuously rather than managing a Linux server, compare self-managed hosting with a service built for that workflow. YouTube’s encoder page lists both OBS as open-source software and Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streams. Verify current prices, limits, and features directly before choosing either.

Troubleshooting a VPS broadcast

  • YouTube shows no incoming stream: Confirm the broadcast is ready, the correct server URL and current stream key are in use, and the key has not been revoked or replaced. Check that FFmpeg is still running and can reach the ingest endpoint.
  • Stream health is poor or the broadcast disconnects: Check sustained upload stability and server load, then test a lower bitrate or resolution. Inspect provider transfer limits and route stability rather than assuming the advertised VPS port speed is sustained capacity.
  • Video stutters or FFmpeg falls behind: Determine whether encoding is saturating the VPS CPU. Test the source at the intended output settings; if you re-encode, the VPS must sustain that workload continuously.
  • Audio is missing or unsuitable: Verify the source audio track and FFmpeg audio mapping and codec. YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 audio.
  • The broadcast stops after a restart: Check the process supervisor and its logs, confirm the media path remains valid, and verify that the stream key and broadcast are still current.
  • You cannot find a complete 24-hour archive: YouTube’s automatic archiving applies to streams under 12 hours; a single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast should not be treated as one automatically archived video.
