There is no universally cheapest VPS region for a 24/7 YouTube stream from India. Compare Mumbai and Singapore when both are available, but decide from the full monthly bill: VPS price, included outbound transfer, regional overage, taxes and a real test of sustained upload to YouTube. Mumbai is a sensible first region to test, not an automatic winner. On AWS Lightsail, for example, Mumbai has half the transfer allowance displayed for its bundle plans and a higher excess outbound rate than Singapore—so a high-volume stream may cost less from Singapore. That AWS comparison does not establish what another provider will charge or how either route will perform.
How to choose a region for a continuous stream
For a VPS that sends a prerecorded music stream continuously to YouTube, region choice is mainly a network and data-transfer cost decision. Estimate your stream’s monthly outbound traffic, check the exact region’s allowance and overage rate, then test the server’s route and sustained upload to YouTube’s ingest endpoint. A region name alone does not tell you latency, packet loss or stream stability.
- Start by checking Mumbai if the provider offers it and your test shows stable upload. Local proximity is a reason to test, not proof of lower cost or a better route to YouTube.
- Compare Singapore on the same terms. Its transfer allowance and excess rate may differ, and the route to YouTube must still be tested.
- Choose by total cost and measured behavior, not the advertised base price or the assumption that the nearest region is best.
The official Google Cloud Live Stream API locations page lists supported locations, but a list of service locations is not a measurement of latency or packet loss from your chosen VPS to YouTube ingest: Google Cloud Live Stream API locations.
Compare the complete monthly bill
A low-cost plan can become expensive when a 24/7 stream exceeds its included transfer. Compare the same plan type in each candidate region and account for all recurring charges.

| Cost or condition | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Base plan | Monthly price, CPU and memory for the encoder workload, disk space for video files, and whether a public IPv4 address costs extra. |
| Included transfer | Monthly allowance for that region, whether it is pooled, and whether inbound and outbound data both count. Check whether the provider quotes decimal GB or GiB. |
| Excess outbound traffic | Region-specific price and billing unit. A continuous stream is predominantly outbound traffic, so this can outweigh a small difference in base plan price. |
| Other charges | Applicable tax, storage or snapshot charges, and any costs for add-ons you actually need. |
| Network performance | Sustained upload, packet loss, reconnect behavior and YouTube stream health from the actual instance—not a general claim about the region. |
AWS Lightsail is a concrete example, not a market-wide price ranking. Its pricing page lists a Linux bundle at $5/month with 0.5 GB RAM, 2 vCPUs, 20 GB SSD and a displayed 1 TB transfer allowance; AWS says Mumbai plans receive half the transfer allowance displayed in the bundle table. AWS documents excess outbound transfer at $0.13/GB in Mumbai and $0.12/GB in Singapore. These are AWS figures accessed 2026-10-03; verify current prices, allowances, taxes and availability before buying. AWS also counts inbound and outbound traffic toward the Lightsail allowance, so downloads for playlists, updates and monitoring can consume some of it. See Amazon Lightsail pricing and Lightsail data transfer documentation.
Estimate bandwidth before choosing a plan
Use the configured video and audio bitrate, not the label “music stream,” to estimate traffic. At a constant 1 Mbps for 30 days, the stream sends about 324 decimal GB before protocol overhead or other traffic:

1,000,000 bits/second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000,000 = 324 GB
For a bitrate of B Mbps, estimate roughly 324 × B decimal GB over 30 days, then add a margin for protocol overhead, downloads and operational traffic. Check how your provider counts a billing month and rounds transfer; a quoted GB may not mean the same thing as a GiB.

| Illustrative stream setting | Approximate total bitrate | Estimated traffic in 30 days |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Mbps sustained, all encoded content | 1 Mbps | 324 decimal GB |
| YouTube’s recommended H.264 720p30 video bitrate plus 128 Kbps stereo audio | About 8.128 Mbps | About 2,633 decimal GB |
The second row is a calculation from YouTube’s cited settings, not a requirement for every music stream. Static visuals may allow a lower video bitrate, but set a profile supported by YouTube and test stream health. Lower encoded bitrate reduces transfer proportionally.
Set an encoder profile the VPS can sustain
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds). It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. For H.264, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps video for 720p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps; its advanced-settings guidance gives 128 Kbps for stereo audio. These recommendations are not proof that a low-spec VPS can encode the chosen profile: encoding load depends on the encoder and configuration, so test the actual workload. Read YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Choose the resolution, frame rate and codec. For a simple music stream, select a supported profile that meets your visual needs and that the instance can sustain. If encoding on the VPS, check CPU use during a representative test.
- Set bitrate and rate control. Use CBR and a bitrate appropriate to the selected profile; calculate monthly transfer from the total video and audio bitrate.
- Set keyframes to two seconds. Keep the interval within YouTube’s documented maximum of four seconds.
- Use RTMPS when configuring delivery. YouTube says: “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP video protocol.”
- Test before relying on the stream. YouTube recommends a speed test to assess upload bitrate, a preflight test and monitoring stream health during the event. Run these from the VPS and watch for drops or instability.
Test Mumbai and Singapore rather than guessing
- Check regional pricing and allowances for the same provider and a comparable plan. Calculate monthly traffic at the bitrate you intend to use, then estimate any overage.
- Deploy a short-lived test instance in each candidate region if practical. Configure the actual encoder and stream profile you plan to use.
- Run a sustained upload test to YouTube and inspect YouTube’s stream-health feedback. Note disconnects, packet loss if your tools expose it, and whether upload remains comfortably above the encoded bitrate.
- Compare the measured result with full cost. Include taxes and extra traffic, not just the listed monthly instance price.
- Keep a recovery plan. A VPS price does not by itself promise a particular uptime. Plan for encoder process failure, host maintenance, reconnects and the steps needed to restart the playlist.
The reviewed official sources do not establish current India-to-YouTube-ingest latency or packet-loss figures for either Mumbai or Singapore. No region should be described as reliably faster without measurements from the actual provider, instance and route.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Use a dedicated stream key carefully. Copy the key from YouTube Studio into the encoder or service that needs it, keep it private, and reset it if it is exposed. Do not put it in a public command, screenshot or repository.
- Configure restart and monitoring. Ensure the encoder can restart after a process failure or server reboot, and arrange a way to notice a stopped process or a YouTube stream-health warning. Do not assume these safeguards are included with the VPS.
- Test recovery. Confirm how the encoder reconnects after a brief network interruption and what happens when the playlist reaches its end.
- Check rights before looping music. You need rights or permission for the music and visuals you stream. A video being available online or a track being labeled “royalty-free” does not by itself establish that you may use it in a monetized or continuous live stream.
- Review YouTube rules for your channel. Copyright and reused-content policies are separate considerations; permission to use material does not guarantee monetization eligibility. Check current YouTube policies and the terms attached to every track and visual.
When a managed service is a better fit
If you do not want to configure an encoder, monitor a VPS and handle recovery yourself, a managed service may remove that operational work. Compare actual channel price, quality limits, storage, destination support, renewal and cancellation terms, and what recovery means in practice; an advertised starting price is not automatically comparable with a VPS bill.
- StreamNeo — first option to consider for hands-off YouTube looping. It runs uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; the first day is free.
- Self-managed VPS. Potentially suitable when you can configure and supervise the encoder, and when the region’s transfer economics and tested route fit your stream.
- Other managed offerings. StreamSetu advertises 24/7 prerecorded streaming and a starting price of $5/month per channel; its exact quality price is shown after signup. Check its current terms and compare the quality and service details that matter to you.
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera or to other platforms. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, support, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The same product is included on every plan; the billing length changes. Shorter and longer options are available, with cancellation any time. India payment options include UPI and cards; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. See StreamNeo.
| Billing period | Price |

Quick Recap
Troubleshooting a VPS stream
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports unstable or insufficient upload | VPS route congestion, packet loss, or an encoder bitrate too close to available sustained upload | Test the actual VPS route and sustained upload; reduce the configured bitrate or test another region/provider, then check stream health again. |
| Stream disconnects and does not return | Encoder process failure, network interruption or missing restart/reconnect handling | Check encoder logs and restart behavior; test reconnecting and configure monitoring and process recovery. |
| Unexpected transfer charges | Monthly traffic exceeds the regional allowance, or the provider counts more traffic than expected | Recalculate from total bitrate and billing period; include downloads, overhead and the provider’s GB/GiB and pooling rules. |
| Video stutters or the VPS is overloaded | Encoding workload exceeds instance capacity or the selected settings are unsuitable | Inspect CPU use during a representative stream; test a lower-complexity profile or a larger instance rather than assuming a particular CPU can encode a resolution. |
| Stream stops at the end of a file | Playlist or looping behavior is not configured as intended | Test the playlist end-to-end before leaving it unattended and verify the encoder’s loop and restart settings. |
