An Intel N100-class mini PC with a working hardware encoder is a sensible starting point for a low-power OBS setup that plays one prerecorded video loop. It is not a proven “best” model: the processor name alone says nothing conclusive about a particular PC’s cooling, sustained stability, wall power, or performance with your scene. Choose a specific machine only after checking its configuration and testing it with the exact video, OBS settings, and stream duration you plan to use.

What a low-power OBS loop actually needs

A simple scene that plays one video and sends it to YouTube is a lighter workload than a scene with several high-resolution sources, browser overlays, filters, capture devices, or simultaneous local recording. The more work you add, the less safe it is to assume a small PC will cope just because it can play a video.

OBS cautions that “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Its requirements vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Treat any mini PC recommendation as a candidate until it passes a test using your real workload. OBS Studio system requirements

Why start with Intel N100-class hardware?

Intel’s N100 processor is a reasonable place to begin a low-power shortlist, particularly when paired with 16 GB of RAM, an SSD, and wired Ethernet. Compatible Intel graphics may support Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV), which can move encoding work from the CPU to dedicated hardware. OBS generally recommends hardware encoding for performance, but QSV must actually appear and work in OBS with your operating system, graphics adapter, and driver. An N100 label does not certify a whole mini PC. Cooling, memory and SSD configuration, BIOS, ports, fan noise, warranty, restart behavior, and power draw at the wall are device-level questions. Processor power ratings are not a substitute for measuring the complete system in use.

How to choose a specific mini PC

There is not enough comparative evidence to name a tested winner or rank individual models here. Compare the exact configurations you can buy, and assess the parts that determine whether your stream will remain stable unattended.

  • Encoder availability: Confirm that OBS exposes a compatible hardware encoder under the device’s current operating system and graphics driver. Test it rather than relying on a product listing that merely mentions Intel graphics.
  • Sustained cooling: Check that the system remains stable during a long run. A short demonstration does not establish sustained performance or 24/7 reliability.
  • Workload headroom: Verify that the PC can decode and play your video while encoding the stream and handling your actual overlays, filters, and other sources.
  • Connection and peripherals: Prefer wired Ethernet for the upload path. Check that the ports, memory, and SSD capacity suit any audio or capture equipment and local files you need.
  • Whole-system behavior: Consider measured wall power at idle, playback, and live encoding, as well as noise, support, price, and what happens after a crash or power interruption. No comparative wall-power or endurance figures are established for the candidate class.

A practical shopping query is “Intel N100 mini PC 16GB RAM SSD”. It narrows the search to a plausible starting configuration, not a guarantee that every result is suitable for continuous OBS use.

Set OBS and YouTube’s live encoder settings

YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations provide a useful starting point. They are ingestion guidance, not a guarantee of picture quality or proof that your internet connection can sustain the stream. YouTube lists RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. RTMPS encrypts the connection to YouTube’s servers. YouTube Live encoder settings

Output YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
720p at 30 fps 8 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps

Use the recommendation for your chosen output, then confirm that the full upload path has enough headroom. YouTube recommends about 20% more bandwidth than the total stream bitrate, suggests testing before going live, and advises monitoring stream health and messages. Check the Live Control Room preview and verify that the stream is accessible. YouTube streaming tips

Test the complete loop before relying on it

  1. Build the real scene: Add the prerecorded video and the same audio, browser sources, filters, or other elements you intend to run. Test the actual media file, not a lighter substitute.
  2. Select the intended output: Set the target resolution and frame rate, H.264, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval. Choose the matching YouTube bitrate from the table, then set the compatible hardware encoder if it is available in OBS.
  3. Connect and check the path: Use the intended network connection, preferably wired Ethernet. Ensure available upload bandwidth exceeds the stream’s total bitrate by about 20%.
  4. Run a private or otherwise appropriate test: Check the Live Control Room preview, OBS statistics, YouTube stream-health messages, and audio and video quality. Confirm the video loops as expected and watch for encoder overload, dropped frames, overheating, or disconnections.
  5. Test for the intended duration: A short successful run does not establish that the PC will remain stable for a much longer session. Test for as long as your use case requires and check whether it recovers as expected after a network interruption or restart.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not establish the same archiving outcome for longer sessions, so do not depend on an archive for a stream that exceeds that duration. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder

Copyright and channel considerations

A working loop is not, by itself, permission to rebroadcast its contents. Use video and audio you own or are licensed to stream, and check the relevant rights before leaving a broadcast running. Also consider whether repeated prerecorded material fits your channel’s goals and applicable YouTube rules; technical encoder settings do not settle copyright or monetization eligibility. Review YouTube’s current requirements for the content and channel involved before starting a long-running stream.

Common problems and what to check

  • QSV or another hardware encoder is missing in OBS: Check that the graphics adapter is enabled and the operating-system graphics driver is current, then reopen OBS and inspect the encoder options. Compatibility depends on the device and driver configuration.
  • Encoder overload or dropped frames: Check OBS statistics to distinguish encoding strain from network trouble. Reduce scene complexity or output demands, verify that the chosen encoder is working, and retest. Dropped frames from a weak upload path require a network fix rather than a faster encoder.
  • Stream health warnings or disconnections: Compare the configured bitrate with the available upload rate and preserve YouTube’s recommended headroom. Check the wired connection and monitor YouTube’s health messages during the test.
  • Instability after a long run: Check temperatures, ventilation, power, and whether the failure recurs with the same workload. A processor model or brief test cannot prove sustained reliability.
  • The video or audio does not loop as expected: Inspect the media source and scene behavior in OBS, then run a full-cycle test before relying on the broadcast.
  • No archive appears for a long stream: YouTube’s cited automatic-archive statement covers streams under 12 hours; it does not promise equivalent archiving for longer sessions.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube rather than run OBS on a PC, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera, and sends to YouTube only.
