If you want one game that shows what a Quest 3-class headset can do, start with Batman: Arkham Shadow. For a major game released in 2025, choose Alien: Rogue Incursion. Asgard’s Wrath 2 is the pick for a long RPG-style campaign, Walkabout Mini Golf is an easy recommendation for playing with friends, and Demeo or Puzzling Places make better use of mixed reality than games that simply put a passthrough view behind the action.
This guide treats “best for 2025” as the best games to play on Quest 3 during that year, not a list limited to games launched in 2025. That distinction matters: several of the strongest recommendations, including Batman: Arkham Shadow, Skydance’s Behemoth and Asgard’s Wrath 2, arrived earlier. A separate section identifies the 2025 release highlighted here. Recommendations focus on games that can be played directly on the headset unless explicitly labeled PC VR; availability, prices and subscription catalogs can vary by region and change over time.
The five games to start with
- Batman: Arkham Shadow — best overall Quest 3 showcase. This native Quest game combines a story campaign with traversal, investigation, stealth and hand-to-hand combat. It is restricted to Quest 3 and Quest 3S, rather than Quest 2; see DC’s game page. Choose it for a substantial action-adventure that is designed for newer Quest hardware. Skip it if you want a short, low-motion introduction or need Quest 2 compatibility. It launched in 2024, so it is a top game available in 2025, not a 2025 release.
- Alien: Rogue Incursion — best 2025 horror pick. This single-player survival-horror game emphasizes exploration, resource management, combat and suspense. Its native Quest version is a distinct experience from the PC and PlayStation VR2 editions; performance and presentation can differ between platforms. Pick it if you want tense, cinematic horror and are comfortable with darkness and movement in VR. It is a poor first choice if horror or artificial locomotion makes you uneasy.
- Asgard’s Wrath 2 — best long-form adventure. Choose this for a more expansive single-player campaign, with exploration, combat and role-playing systems. It is an older release, but remains a compelling answer for a new owner who wants a traditional game structure rather than a short VR experiment. Check the current store listing for compatibility, updates and price before buying.
- Resident Evil 4 — best classic action-horror campaign. Its Quest edition brings the survival-action game to standalone VR, with immersive weapon handling and a substantial campaign. It is not the same edition as the versions on other platforms. Choose it for combat and replayable action; pass if you want a gentle introduction or dislike horror tension.
- Walkabout Mini Golf — best social all-rounder. Its approachable rounds make it easy to play with friends or return for short sessions. It is not a Quest 3 showcase in the graphics-heavy sense, but strong game design and social replay value matter more here. Its value depends partly on whether you have people to play with or enjoy online matchmaking.
These are editorial picks, not an objective ranking. A technically demanding game is not automatically the best choice for a first-time VR player, and an excellent game that runs on several Quest models can still be worth playing on Quest 3.

Action, adventure and spectacle
- Batman: Arkham Shadow: the clearest Quest 3/3S-only flagship recommendation in this list, with a mix of combat, stealth, investigation and traversal.
- Skydance’s Behemoth: fantasy action built around climbing, melee fights, exploration and imposing enemies. It launched in 2024, but remained a relevant 2025 choice. Expect spectacle and big encounters; do not mistake scale for uniformly deep or polished gameplay. Repetition, pacing and comfort may affect how well it suits you.
- Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR: a recognizable stealth-and-action adventure for players who want to inhabit a familiar series. Consider its movement and climbing before choosing it as a first VR game.
- Superhot VR: short, striking encounters built around the idea that the action moves when you do. It is a strong bite-sized pick rather than a sprawling campaign.
Horror and survival
- Alien: Rogue Incursion: a 2025 release for players seeking a more sustained survival-horror experience.
- Metro Awakening: atmospheric, story-led horror for players who like tense exploration and can tolerate darker environments and VR movement.
- The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners: survival-focused action with physical interaction and resource pressure.
- Into the Radius 2: a more demanding survival option centered on exploration, equipment and weapons. It is less immediately accessible than an arcade shooter; verify the current Quest listing and release status for your region before purchase.
- Propagation: Paradise Hotel: a compact horror option for players looking for a focused, unsettling experience.
Horror and smooth movement can compound discomfort. If you are new to VR, build tolerance with stationary or teleport-friendly games before committing to long sessions in dark, tense environments.

Shooters and combat
- Pistol Whip: rhythm-action shooting with fast movement and music-driven stages. Good for energetic short sessions, but its pace is not beginner-friendly for everyone.
- Superhot VR: tactical, puzzle-like encounters with movement-driven time, rather than a conventional continuous shooter.
- Arizona Sunshine 2: zombie-shooting action with cooperative play as a draw; check whether friends are playing the same version and platform.
- Contractors Showdown and Ghosts of Tabor: online shooter choices for players who want competitive or survival-oriented multiplayer. Their enjoyment depends on active matchmaking, network access and whether the current player community suits you.
Multiplayer and social play
- Walkabout Mini Golf: the easiest group recommendation, especially for casual rounds and conversation.
- Demeo: cooperative tabletop-style strategy. Mixed reality can make the board feel situated in your room, giving passthrough a practical role rather than using it only as a background.
- Among Us 3D: a social deduction option for groups that already enjoy the format. A multiplayer game’s quality depends on finding a suitable active lobby, not just owning the headset.
- Eleven Table Tennis: a focused sports simulation with an easy-to-understand premise and online play.
- Population: One: a free-to-start social shooter option, subject to the current regional store listing and any in-game purchases.
- Gorilla Tag: a free social choice built around physical movement. Community behavior, moderation and the game’s purchase model are worth considering, particularly for younger players.
Before buying for multiplayer, check whether the game needs an internet connection, voice chat, a separate account, cross-play or friends who own the same title. Player populations and matchmaking can change, so no online recommendation guarantees a busy lobby.
Rhythm and active play
- Beat Saber: an immediate, replayable rhythm game and a reliable first purchase for many players. Music packs and add-ons can increase the total cost.
- Les Mills Bodycombat and FitXR: structured, active-play options for people who want guided movement.
- Thrill of the Fight: physically intense boxing-style play. Make sure you have clear space and pace sessions sensibly.
- Pistol Whip: a more action-oriented rhythm option.
These games can involve vigorous movement, but that does not make them a substitute for a tailored fitness plan or medical advice. Clear enough space to swing your arms, take breaks and stop if you feel unwell.

Puzzles, narrative and gentler introductions
- The Room VR: A Dark Matter: tactile environmental puzzles with a measured pace. A strong pick for someone who wants to explore and solve rather than fight.
- Moss and Moss: Book II: storybook-style adventures viewed around a small hero. Their perspective and pace can be more approachable than games that constantly move the player’s viewpoint.
- Red Matter 2: a visually polished science-fiction puzzle adventure.
- Puzzling Places: a relaxed three-dimensional puzzle game that can be especially appealing in mixed reality.
- A Fisherman’s Tale, The 7th Guest VR and I Expect You To Die 2: further options for players who prefer inventive puzzles, narrative or escape-room-style problem solving.
Mixed reality: more than a passthrough background
First Encounters is a useful short introduction to room-aware play. Demeo makes a tabletop board feel at home in a physical space; Puzzling Places can place a puzzle in your room; and Cubism is a compact spatial puzzle option. Home Sports, Wall Town Wonders and mixed-reality modes in games such as Drop Dead: The Cabin offer other ways to use passthrough.

There is a difference between displaying your room behind a game and building play around your room’s surfaces, boundaries or spatial layout. The latter is a more meaningful mixed-reality use. Results depend on good lighting, a safe play area, room scanning and the specific game implementation. Meta’s developer documentation on passthrough camera features describes platform and permission requirements; camera-based features are not a guarantee that every title will interpret every room perfectly.

What actually launched in 2025?
Alien: Rogue Incursion is the headline 2025 release in this guide. It is worth separating that release-year label from recommendations that were simply available to play in 2025: Batman: Arkham Shadow and Skydance’s Behemoth launched in 2024, while Asgard’s Wrath 2 is an earlier essential for players seeking a long campaign.
Other 2025 coverage identified titles including Among Us 3D, Gorn 2, Maestro, Ghost Town, Deadly Delivery, Mannequin, Glassbreakers, Besiege VR and Thief VR as candidates to watch or consider. Release timing, Quest availability and regional listings can differ, so check the current store page for a specific title rather than treating a year’s roundup as a guarantee that every game is available on every Quest model. Quest 3 versus Quest 3S: will it change your game choices?
Quest 3 and Quest 3S share access to software designed for the Quest 3-class platform, but they are not identical headsets. Batman: Arkham Shadow, for example, is listed for both Quest 3 and Quest 3S and not Quest 2. That is different from saying every game has identical optics or presentation on the two headsets.

Both headsets support mixed-reality experiences, but passthrough and scene-aware features depend on software, room setup and the particular title. Headset refresh-rate capability is also not a promise that each game runs at the same refresh rate: a developer’s performance choices differ by application. Meta’s performance guidance discusses the platform’s frame-budget requirements.
Standalone, PC VR and what you are buying
- Standalone Quest game: installed and played on the headset, with no gaming PC required. This is the focus of most recommendations above.
- Quest Link or Air Link: streams a compatible PC VR game from a Windows gaming PC to the headset. Air Link also relies on a suitable Wi-Fi setup.
- SteamVR: PC-based VR software and games, requiring a capable computer and setup.
- Cross-buy: some titles may grant access to more than one version, but this is title-specific. Confirm the store’s terms before purchase.
Owning a Quest 3 does not automatically provide access to the full PC VR catalog. PC editions may offer higher visual fidelity, but they add hardware, network or cable requirements and setup complexity. Compare the exact edition you want rather than assuming a standalone purchase includes a PC version.

Comfort and setup checklist
- Start with a clear play area. Set the boundary carefully and remove objects you could hit while turning or reaching.
- Begin with low-motion games. Stationary, room-scale or teleport-friendly play is often easier to acclimatize to than smooth movement, rapid turning, flying or climbing.
- Use comfort options. Look for teleport movement, snap turning, vignettes and adjustable locomotion where available. These settings vary by game.
- Keep early sessions short. Stop if you feel nausea, dizziness, eye strain or disorientation; do not try to push through symptoms.
- Set up mixed reality in a suitable room. Good lighting and a safely cleared space help, but passthrough should not be treated as a substitute for checking your surroundings.
- Consider fit and vision. Adjust the headset before a long session; glasses wearers should confirm that their glasses fit safely and do not scrape the headset lenses.
- For online play, check the connection. Multiplayer needs internet access, and PC streaming is more sensitive to network setup than playing a game installed on the headset.
- Check storage before installing. Game sizes, patches and updates change. Review the current install requirement and leave room for updates instead of relying on a fixed estimate of how many games will fit.
Value: what to check before you buy
Game prices, sales, DLC, music packs and subscription catalogs change frequently and can vary by region. Check the live Meta store listing for the standard price, any sale, add-on costs and headset compatibility before purchasing. A third-party catalog such as QuestStoreDB’s Quest 3/3S-only listing can help with discovery, but use the official store listing to confirm current availability and terms.
Value depends on how you play: Walkabout Mini Golf can repay its cost through repeat social sessions; Beat Saber offers replayability but has optional paid music packs; The Room VR and Moss are shorter premium experiences; and Batman: Arkham Shadow or Asgard’s Wrath 2 better fit a buyer seeking a larger campaign. Subscription access may be useful for sampling, but a subscription is not the same as permanent ownership, and catalogs can change. Check active catalog terms before relying on access to a particular game.
Newer releases can also carry launch uncertainty: patches, content additions, multiplayer activity and support may evolve after release. For a new game such as Alien: Rogue Incursion or Into the Radius 2, weigh the appeal of playing now against the possibility that later updates or sales may change its value. Do not assume a listed sale will continue.
