For most Minecraft PC players, the best monitor choice in the 2024 market was a 27-inch 1440p IPS display running at 144–180Hz. The Gigabyte M27Q was a particularly strong all-round pick. The ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQDM was the premium OLED option, while the LG UltraGear 27GR93U suited players with powerful PCs who prioritised 4K sharpness.
This is a guide to the 2024 monitor market. Prices, availability, revisions, and regional specifications may have changed since then, so confirm the exact model before buying.
Quick picks

| Best budget direction | 27-inch 1440p IPS at 144–180Hz | Usually the best balance of cost, sharpness, and smoothness |
| Best for serious PvP | A 1080p or 1440p monitor at 240Hz | Useful only when the PC can sustain very high frame rates |
| Best contrast alternative | AOC Q27G3XMN | Worth considering when contrast and HDR-style performance matter more than IPS viewing angles |
Why the Gigabyte M27Q was the best overall choice
The M27Q offered the combination Minecraft needs most often: a useful desktop size, sharper-than-1080p resolution, smooth motion, and sensible performance requirements. At 27 inches, 2560×1440 gives distant terrain, block edges, inventory text, and building details more definition without demanding as much GPU power as 4K.
A refresh rate around 144–180Hz is also a practical target. It makes camera movement feel smoother and can help PvP, but it does not impose the same hardware demands or price premium as 240Hz. The M27Q’s KVM feature is an additional advantage if one monitor is shared between a desktop and laptop. Check the exact revision and regional listing, because Gigabyte has sold related M27Q models. Its IPS panel is a safer general-purpose choice than OLED for players who leave Minecraft’s HUD, menus, inventory, or desktop windows visible for long periods.
The best monitor depends on your Minecraft workload
“Minecraft performance” is not one fixed workload. Vanilla Java, modded Java with Sodium, shader-heavy Java, Bedrock with Vibrant Visuals, ray tracing, and console Bedrock can produce very different frame rates. Java is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux; Bedrock is also available on consoles and mobile devices. On PC, the current purchase listing includes both editions. See Minecraft’s official edition information.
| Typical sustained FPS | Sensible monitor target |
|---|---|
| 60–90 FPS | 1080p or 1440p at 75–120Hz |
| 90–165 FPS | 1440p at 144–180Hz |
| 165–240 FPS | 1440p at 240Hz, mainly for competitive play |
| 60–120 FPS at high visual quality | 4K at 120–144Hz |
| Highly variable FPS | Any suitable resolution with a broad adaptive-sync range |
These are practical buying recommendations, not official Minecraft requirements. Judge performance in your normal world—not an empty superflat test. Villages, farms, dense bases, high render distance, mods, shaders, and multiplayer areas can all reduce frame rate.
Best resolution: 1080p, 1440p, or 4K?
1080p: for modest PCs and competitive play
1080p remains sensible for an older or entry-level computer, a 24-inch display, or a player who prioritises maximum FPS over image detail. It is easier to drive at high refresh rates and can be the right choice for serious PvP. At 27 inches, however, it looks less sharp and provides less workspace than 1440p.

- 240Hz Refresh Rate: Stay above the pack with 240Hz, giving you an edge in performance as frames transition instantly.Specific uses for product - Gaming
- 1ms Response Time: Colors fade and illuminate instantly with a 1ms response time, eliminating ghosting and piecing together precise imagery during action-packed scenes and gaming.
- 1500R Curvature: The 1500R degree curved design immerses you into all of the action no matter where you choose to sit in the room.
- AMD FreeSync Premium: By accelerating the frame rate to at least 120Hz at 1080P FHD resolution and delivering low latency to prevent visible delay in data processing, AMD FreeSync Premium allows gameplay to reach the highest echelons of performance.
- Built-In Speakers: Perfectly suited to work & gaming settings, built-in speakers deliver robust & smooth audio while saving space on your desk.
1440p: the best default
1440p was the mainstream gaming sweet spot in 2024 because it delivered a visible sharpness improvement over 1080p while remaining substantially easier to run than 4K. It is especially well suited to Minecraft’s text, menus, distant landscapes, and detailed builds, while also working well in other PC games. TechSpot’s 2024 monitor coverage supports this market-level conclusion: see its 1440p recommendations.
Good alternatives to the M27Q included the MSI G274QPF-QD, Dell G2724D, and LG 27GR75Q. Confirm the exact regional SKU, panel revision, refresh rate, and included features before purchasing. The Dell G2724D product page is one place to verify specifications.
4K: for sharpness and high-end systems
4K is the better choice when maximum clarity matters more than frame rate. At 27–32 inches, 3840×2160 gives block edges, text, screenshots, maps, and creative work excellent definition. The trade-off is substantially higher GPU demand, particularly with shaders, ray tracing, high render distances, or Bedrock’s advanced visual modes.
The LG 27GR93U was a strong 2024 option: a 27-inch 4K IPS display with approximately 144Hz refresh. TechSpot also covered notable alternatives such as the Gigabyte M27U and M28U in its 2024 4K monitor guide. A 4K 144Hz monitor does not mean Minecraft will run at 144 FPS; your CPU, GPU, mods, and graphics settings still determine the frame rate.

Choosing the right size
- 24–25 inches: practical for smaller desks, 1080p, and competitive PvP.
- 27 inches: the best general-purpose size for 1440p or 4K.
- 32 inches: more immersive, especially at 4K, but benefits from greater desk depth.
- 34-inch ultrawide: useful for multitasking and cinematic exploration, although Minecraft interfaces may not use the extra width perfectly.
- 43 inches or larger: better suited to a living-room or controller setup than a typical desktop.
Flat panels are the safer choice for building, text, maps, and office work. Curved screens can feel more immersive at 32 inches or on an ultrawide, but curvature is not inherently better for Minecraft.
Premium choice: ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQDM
The PG27AQDM was a leading premium choice for players who wanted outstanding contrast, HDR, and motion performance. ASUS lists a 26.5-inch 2560×1440 OLED panel, 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms GTG response-time claim, 99% DCI-P3 coverage, HDR peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits in a small HDR window, and G-SYNC compatibility. Verify the current specification on ASUS’s product page.
OLED is excellent for dark caves, nighttime scenes, shader effects, and competitive games. It is not the best value for ordinary survival play, though, and it introduces practical concerns: higher cost, model-dependent brightness behaviour, text-rendering differences, and potential burn-in risk from persistent HUDs, menus, and desktop elements. OLED is the luxury image-quality choice—not an automatic recommendation for every Minecraft setup.
Refresh rate, adaptive sync, and response time
60Hz is adequate for casual play. 120–144Hz is a meaningful smoothness upgrade, while 165–180Hz was an excellent 2024 value target. 240Hz makes sense mainly for competitive PvP players whose systems consistently produce very high FPS. 360Hz or higher is generally excessive for a Minecraft-focused purchase.

A 240Hz monitor cannot display the full benefit of 240Hz if the game is producing 80 FPS. It also cannot fix CPU bottlenecks, shader load, server latency, Java stutter, thermal throttling, or poorly optimised mods.
FreeSync, Adaptive-Sync, or G-SYNC compatibility can reduce tearing and make fluctuating frame delivery feel smoother. It does not increase average FPS. On PC, DisplayPort is often the simplest connection for maximum refresh rate and adaptive sync, but HDMI capabilities vary by monitor and graphics card. Confirm the input requirements in the manual; maximum refresh rate may not be available through every port.
Do not choose solely on a manufacturer’s “0.03ms” or “1ms” figure. Real motion quality also depends on response-time behaviour, overshoot, refresh rate, and frame delivery.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does Minecraft benefit from HDR?
HDR can improve sunsets, skies, lava, luminous blocks, dark caves, and shader-heavy scenes, but an HDR badge alone says little about quality. Strong HDR depends on brightness, contrast technology, local dimming, game support, operating-system configuration, and the monitor’s tuning.

Distinguish basic HDR compatibility from DisplayHDR certification and from genuinely strong HDR performance. A good SDR IPS monitor can be better than a cheap display that merely advertises HDR. OLED offers excellent per-pixel contrast, but its static-content considerations remain.
Settings that affect the buying decision
In Java, compare the monitor with the settings you actually use: render distance, simulation distance, shaders, mods, fullscreen resolution, and the FPS cap. Minecraft’s FPS limiter and idle behaviour can reduce frame rate while the game is minimised or the player is inactive; do not judge a high-refresh monitor by idle or menu behaviour alone. Minecraft explains this feature here.
For Bedrock, open Settings → Video. Options such as Fancy Leaves, Fancy Bubbles, Render Clouds, and FOV effects can be reduced when performance is poor. Bedrock also separates graphics modes such as Simple, Fancy, and Vibrant Visuals. See the official performance guidance and Vibrant Visuals settings guide.
How to configure a new monitor
- Connect the monitor with the appropriate DisplayPort or HDMI cable and input.
- In your operating system’s display settings, select the monitor’s native resolution and highest supported refresh rate.
- Enable Adaptive-Sync, FreeSync, or G-SYNC in the monitor and graphics-driver settings if supported.
- Set Minecraft’s frame-rate limit appropriately rather than assuming an unlimited cap is best.
- Test a normal survival world, base, server, mod set, and shader pack.
- If frame pacing is uneven, lower render distance or shader settings before blaming the monitor.
If Minecraft is crashing or lagging, update graphics drivers, close unnecessary applications, check system resources, and adjust advanced video settings. Minecraft’s troubleshooting guidance is available from Mojang Help.
Common buying mistakes
- Buying 4K for a PC that cannot sustain the desired frame rate.
- Buying 240Hz for a system that normally runs Minecraft at 70–90 FPS.
- Treating Java, Bedrock, shaders, ray tracing, and Vibrant Visuals as identical workloads.
- Trusting an HDR label without checking brightness, contrast, and local dimming.
- Ignoring height adjustment, VESA support, stand depth, glare, or USB/KVM needs.
- Using the wrong cable or input and accidentally running at 60Hz.
- Choosing OLED without considering long static sessions with a persistent HUD.
- Assuming a monitor can solve server lag, CPU limitations, or poor frame pacing.
Other 2024 options worth considering
The MSI G274QPF-QD was a notable budget-to-midrange 1440p candidate. The Dell G2724D and LG 27GR75Q represented the same practical buying direction: 27-inch 1440p IPS with adaptive sync and at least 144Hz where supported. Buyers who prioritised high contrast and HDR-style performance could consider the AOC Q27G3XMN, while ASUS’s PG27UQR was a premium 4K/160Hz alternative. These models should be compared by exact regional SKU rather than by name alone.
Historical 2024 coverage placed the LG 27GR93U at approximately $500 in the U.S. at one point, with some 4K alternatives around $650–$800. Those figures are historical signals, not current prices. Avoid treating them as August 2026 pricing.
