For managing recurring YouTube broadcasts from OBS, Live Stream Segmenter is the most directly relevant plugin in the available options. Its listing describes a dock for broadcast management and automatic renewal, with a target stream length under 12 hours. It is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 streaming: your computer, connection, audio setup, credentials, and YouTube can still interrupt a show. If you want a stream that keeps running without a computer left on at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: it loops uploaded videos to YouTube.
Which OBS option fits a continuous podcast?
First decide what you mean by “continuous.” If you want OBS to manage successive YouTube broadcasts, look at Live Stream Segmenter. If you only need to automate scenes or sources—such as switching between a microphone scene and a break screen—OBS’s built-in WebSocket can let compatible external tools control OBS. For basic microphones and media files, OBS already has the necessary source types; a plugin is not required.
| Option | Best suited to | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Keeping an uploaded-video stream running from the cloud, without leaving a home computer on. | It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not broadcast a live microphone or camera. |
| Live Stream Segmenter 1.1.4 | Managing YouTube broadcasts and automating renewal from an OBS dock. | It does not guarantee uninterrupted service or remove computer, network, content-rights, or YouTube risks. |
| OBS WebSocket | Remote control and automation of OBS scenes and sources through compatible clients or scripts. | It is not the same as the Segmenter’s YouTube broadcast-renewal workflow. |
| OBS built-in sources | Adding audio devices and media files to podcast scenes. | They do not themselves renew YouTube broadcasts. |
OBS’s developer guide distinguishes native plugins, scripts, and WebSocket integrations: plugins can add sources, outputs, encoders, and services; scripts can interact with scenes and sources; WebSocket lets external applications and scripts interact with OBS. Those are different ways to extend or control the production, not interchangeable continuity features. OBS Developer Guide
Live Stream Segmenter: the broadcast-management pick
The OBS Forums resource listing describes Live Stream Segmenter as an OBS automation plugin with a dock UI for managing a broadcast and keeping stream length under 12 hours. It says the plugin uses the YouTube Data API and YouTube Live Streaming API through your Google Cloud project, includes timers to renew broadcasts automatically, offers a JavaScript scripting interface, and displays logs in both its dock and the OBS log. The listing is the basis for these features; it is not an independent reliability test. Live Stream Segmenter 1.1.4 listing

Requirements to check before installing
- OBS Studio 31.1.1 or newer.
- YouTube live-stream permission for the channel.
- A Google Cloud project with YouTube Data API v3 enabled.
- An OAuth2 Desktop Client belonging to that Google Cloud project.
- A supported operating system: the listing names Windows, macOS, and Linux. Confirm your processor architecture and installation steps against the current plugin documentation.
These version and compatibility details reflect the listing checked October 3, 2026; plugin requirements can change, so recheck the current resource page before installing. Set aside time to configure Google credentials and test a broadcast transition before using the plugin for a live show.
What it can—and cannot—do for a podcast
The renewal workflow may help avoid manually starting each successive broadcast, while the dock and logs give you a place to monitor its automation. The under-12-hour target is not evidence that a stream will stay online indefinitely. OBS still runs on your machine, and an internet outage, computer sleep or crash, microphone failure, expired or misconfigured credentials, YouTube action, or rights issue can stop the show. Keep a manual recovery plan and check the stream after transitions.

OBS WebSocket for scene and source automation
OBS says WebSocket integration is included by default with OBS Studio 28 and above, so current versions generally do not need a separate obs-websocket download. External clients can control or automate scenes and sources—for example, switching from a live microphone scene to a scheduled break layout. OBS names Macro Deck, Touch Portal, Twitchat, Streamer.bot, Deckboard, OBS Blade, Aitum, and Bitfocus Companion as possible clients. This is remote control of OBS, not a YouTube broadcast-renewal feature. OBS Remote Control Guide

Secure the connection
Enable password protection for WebSocket. OBS highly recommends protecting it against unauthorized control. A control connection should only be available to trusted tools and devices; do not expose it casually to an untrusted network.
Build the podcast scene with OBS sources
For a straightforward spoken-audio stream, start with OBS’s built-in sources rather than adding a plugin just to capture a microphone or play a file. OBS documents audio, media, video capture, browser, image, and text sources; scenes combine sources into the layout sent to the stream. OBS Sources Guide

YouTube’s encoder guidance identifies OBS as an encoder and describes encoder streaming as a way to use external audio/video hardware and manage more advanced productions. A separate microphone or camera is an optional production choice, not a plugin requirement. YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
Install and test without risking a live show
- Check compatibility first. Confirm the plugin’s supported OBS version, operating system, processor architecture, installation instructions, and recovery method. OBS warns that incompatibility can result from OS, architecture, or OBS-version mismatches. Follow the plugin’s own documentation; OBS’s Plugins Guide explains compatibility and platform-specific plugin locations.
- Meet the Segmenter prerequisites. Use OBS Studio 31.1.1 or newer, confirm YouTube live permission, enable YouTube Data API v3 in the intended Google Cloud project, and create the project’s OAuth2 Desktop Client.
- Install using the plugin’s current instructions. Do not assume a directory or installation method from an older OBS release still applies; OBS notes that its legacy Windows plugin directory will stop working in a future version.
- Authorize and configure the dock. Connect the correct Google account and channel, then review the plugin’s broadcast and renewal settings. The listing describes its API workflow but does not establish a universal configuration for every channel.
- Run a non-public test. Verify audio, scene changes, API authorization, renewal behavior, and the OBS/plugin logs. Check the YouTube broadcast itself rather than assuming that a successful OBS status means every transition worked.
- Prepare recovery. Know how to restart or manually create a broadcast if automation fails. Keep OBS and the machine awake, monitor network and audio, and have a way to identify whether a failure is in OBS, the plugin, the connection, or YouTube.
Common problems and practical fixes
- The plugin does not appear in OBS: Check that its installed version supports your OBS release and CPU architecture, and that it is in the correct platform-specific location. Revisit the plugin’s installation documentation and OBS Plugins Guide.
- Google authorization or API calls fail: Confirm that YouTube live streaming is permitted for the channel, YouTube Data API v3 is enabled in the same Google Cloud project, and the OAuth2 Desktop Client belongs to that project. Reauthorize with the intended account and inspect the plugin dock and OBS log.
- A broadcast does not renew: Review the dock and OBS logs, check API authorization and connectivity, and use the manual recovery plan. Automatic renewal is the plugin’s stated feature, not a guarantee that every API transition will succeed.
- Scene automation works but broadcasts still need attention: WebSocket clients control OBS scenes and sources; they do not replace the Segmenter’s YouTube broadcast workflow.
- The stream stops when unattended: Check for computer sleep, power or network interruptions, OBS errors, audio-device changes, and YouTube-side issues. A plugin cannot keep a powered-off or disconnected computer streaming.
- Audio disappears or plays twice: Inspect the active scene’s audio sources and OBS mixer, then test device selection and monitoring. Change one routing setting at a time and verify with a private test.
