Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor a single fireplace video, create a simple OBS scene, add the clip as a Media Source, and enable Loop. Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate for your streaming platform, upload connection, and computer—there is no one preset that suits every setup. Test the scene and stream before leaving it running.
Build a simple fireplace scene
Create the scene and add the clip
- In OBS, create a dedicated scene, such as “Fireplace.” Keeping it simple reduces unnecessary rendering work and makes the stream easier to troubleshoot.
- In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Media Source. Give it a recognizable name, such as “Fireplace video.”
- Select the local fireplace video file. Enable Loop so playback starts again when it reaches the end.
- Position and size the source to fill the canvas. Check the preview for black bars, cropping, or an unintended border. If the source is much larger than the stream canvas, consider preparing a suitably sized copy rather than making OBS handle unnecessary oversized media.
- Keep the clip’s audio if it contains the crackling fire you want. In the Audio Mixer, confirm its meter responds during playback and set a comfortable level. If you use a separate audio source, verify that it is active and that it does not duplicate the clip’s sound.
Media Source or VLC Video?
For one local clip, Media Source is the simpler option: it plays a file and can loop it. A VLC Video source is useful when you need playlist controls and looping across a playlist, but VLC must be installed. For a single fireplace video, there is usually no need to add that extra dependency.
Media Source also offers playback controls such as restarting when visible, hardware decoding when available, hiding at the end of playback, and closing the file while inactive. For a dedicated scene that stays visible, the essential setting is Loop; avoid changing other playback options unless they solve a specific need.
Choose output settings for your platform and setup
Set the stream to a resolution your platform accepts and your computer and internet connection can sustain. Match the source’s native frame rate where practical. OBS’s general guidance uses 30 or 60 FPS as examples and notes that 60 FPS can demand more from the computer. A slowly changing fire scene may not need 60 FPS if it makes the system less stable.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Setting | How to choose it |
|---|---|
| Resolution | Use the actual output resolution you intend to stream, within the platform’s current limits. Higher resolution can show more detail but also raises encoding and bandwidth demands. |
| Frame rate | Choose a rate the source and computer can sustain. Compare 30 FPS with 60 FPS based on motion smoothness versus additional system load. |
| Video bitrate | Fit the platform’s current limit and a stable portion of your upload capacity. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guarantee; reduce it if dropped frames persist. |
| Audio bitrate | OBS’s overview gives around 160 kbps as general streaming guidance, while noting lower values may suit limited upload capacity. Check the platform’s current requirements rather than treating this as a fixed rule. |
To estimate a video bitrate starting point from the OBS troubleshooting guidance, multiply your measured total upload speed by 0.75, then confirm the result is within the platform’s current limit. This is only a diagnostic starting point: upload speed fluctuates, and other network activity can reduce what is available to OBS. If dropped frames continue, lower the bitrate and test again.
Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point
OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard considers intended use, available hardware, and network conditions to help choose initial settings. Treat its result as a starting configuration, not proof that a stream will stay stable indefinitely. Test your actual scene and stream at the intended output settings.

Test the loop, picture, and sound before going live
- Start playback in OBS and check that the fire fills the canvas and remains visible.
- Let the clip reach its end and confirm it starts again. Check that the transition is acceptable; a visible pause or abrupt audio cut may be part of the source file rather than an OBS setting.
- Watch the Audio Mixer while the clip plays. Confirm the intended crackling audio is present, not muted, and not clipping. Listen to the stream output if possible; meter movement alone does not confirm that viewers hear the right source.
- Run a test stream and check the result on the platform. OBS recommends testing the actual settings and scene before a first live stream.
- Observe OBS’s dropped-frame counter during the test. If frames are dropping, lower the bitrate first and reassess the connection to the ingest server. Test for long enough to catch instability that a brief preview may miss.
Prepare OBS for a long-running broadcast
Enable automatic reconnect
In OBS, open Settings > Advanced and configure Automatic Reconnect. This can help OBS reconnect after an interruption, but it does not guarantee continuous service or repair an unstable internet connection.
Keep the scene and computer load manageable
OBS composites scene sources using GPU resources. Unnecessary browser overlays, extra sources, and media much larger than the output requires can increase load. For a fireplace stream, a single video source and only the audio sources you need are a sensible baseline. Watch the computer during a test for encoding overload or other signs it cannot sustain the chosen settings.

A stable long-running broadcast also depends on the machine, network, power, platform, and source file—not just the scene. The official OBS guidance cited here does not establish a continuous-uptime guarantee or one hardware requirement for this setup.
Troubleshoot dropped frames, buffering, and playback problems
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| OBS reports dropped frames | An unstable connection to the ingest server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. | Lower the video bitrate, confirm it is within the platform’s limits, and retest. If appropriate, try a different ingest server or service. |
| Viewers report buffering, but OBS shows no dropped frames | Bitrate, resolution, frame rate, platform transcoding, or viewer-device constraints. | Test a lower output resolution or frame rate and review the bitrate. Check playback on more than one device or connection if available. |
| The clip stops at the end | Loop is disabled or the wrong media source is playing. | Open the Media Source properties, verify the selected file, and enable Loop. Test through the end of the clip. |
| The fire is visible but crackling is absent | The clip may lack audio, its source may be muted, or the intended audio source may not be active. | Check the Audio Mixer and source properties during playback. Confirm the file itself contains the sound you expect. |
| The scene stutters or OBS struggles to render it | System load, an overly demanding output setting, or unnecessary scene complexity. | Remove sources you do not need, reduce resolution or frame rate, and retest. Hardware decoding may be available in Media Source settings, but results depend on the system. |
Check rights and platform rules for the footage and audio
Use fireplace footage and crackling audio you have the right to stream. A clip being available online does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Review the platform’s current copyright and live-stream rules, and keep records of any relevant licenses or permissions.

Technical looping is not a substitute for compliance with platform policies. A stream made from prerecorded material must still meet the platform’s rules, and copyright permission is separate from any platform assessment of reused content. OBS settings cannot guarantee that a platform will accept or keep a stream live.
