For a low-motion, audio-led YouTube radio stream, start with 720p at 30 fps, H.264 video at 3,000 kbps in CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps. That is a test profile, not a guarantee: with YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom, it needs about 3.9 Mbps of stable upload before household traffic or any other stream. Measure your Airtel connection’s upload capacity and stability; the advertised download speed is not a substitute.
Recommended OBS profile for a 24/7 music stream
YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends 3 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and 128 kbps for stereo audio. For a music radio stream with a static or slowly moving visual, those figures make a practical starting point. They are not a promise that every Airtel connection or computer can sustain the stream.

In OBS, use the stream output settings to choose the encoder, rate control, bitrate, and keyframe interval; set output resolution and frame rate in the video settings, and set the audio encoder, channels, and bitrate in the audio output settings. OBS encoder choices and preset names depend on the computer’s available hardware and software. Use a stable hardware H.264 encoder if available, or a conservative software-encoding preset if the CPU has enough headroom. The cited platform guidance does not prescribe a particular OBS encoder implementation or preset.
How much Airtel upload speed does the stream need?
Do not size a continuous broadcast from an Airtel plan’s advertised download rate. YouTube says download speed is often greater than upload speed and recommends leaving roughly 20% upload bandwidth headroom. The baseline’s 3,000 kbps video plus 128 kbps audio totals 3,128 kbps, or about 3.13 Mbps before protocol overhead. Allowing 20% headroom means planning for approximately 3.9 Mbps of stable upload capacity for that stream alone. Other household use and a second stream require additional capacity.

YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and using a reliable connection; its guidance also says total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth. If upload speed fluctuates, reduce the video bitrate or output resolution and test again rather than running at the line’s maximum.
Measure the connection you will actually use
- Run several upload speed tests at different times, using the same wired or Wi-Fi setup planned for the stream. Use the upload result, not the download result, to judge headroom.
- Reserve roughly 20% of the stable upload capacity for headroom. Account for other people and devices using the connection, and do not plan a stream at the measured maximum.
- Make a private or unlisted test with the actual audio and representative visual movement. Monitor YouTube’s stream health during the test and after going live.
- Check the active Airtel plan and terms in your Airtel account. Airtel’s published broadband plans advertise different maximum speeds by tier and geography, with examples ranging from 40 Mbps to 1 Gbps; those advertised maximums are not measured upload guarantees.
Check the Airtel fair-usage terms before a long run
Airtel’s Xstream Fiber terms page, accessed in 2026, states a Fair Usage Policy threshold of 3333 GB in a billing cycle, after which speed is reduced to 1 Mbps. The terms also say the FUP may be amended, so check the current terms that apply to your account before relying on that figure. Airtel’s broadband terms state that speed is the maximum prescribed speed and is not assured at all times; network congestion or technical reasons can cause variation.

For scale, video at 3 Mbps for 30 days uses approximately 0.97 decimal TB, calculated as 3 megabits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8. This is an arithmetic estimate for video alone, not an Airtel statistic; audio and protocol overhead add to usage.
Set up and test the 24/7 OBS broadcast
- Prepare the content and visual. Load the intended music source and a visual with movement representative of the full broadcast. Confirm that you have the rights needed for the music and visuals before streaming. The sources cited here do not establish how any particular track or visual will be treated under YouTube’s copyright or monetization systems; check the applicable YouTube rules for your content rather than assuming that a continuous radio format makes it permissible.
- Configure the encoder. Apply the baseline profile above. If your computer offers hardware H.264 encoding and it operates reliably, use it; otherwise use software encoding only if the machine has sufficient CPU headroom. Avoid choosing a demanding preset without testing it over a long run.
- Connect to YouTube. Use the stream key for the YouTube broadcast in OBS and choose RTMPS if supported. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Include the real audio and representative visual motion. Check YouTube stream health, OBS dropped frames, encoder load, and the audio level. A short successful test does not establish that an Airtel connection will remain stable for days, so continue monitoring after launch.
- Start the public broadcast only after the test is clean. Use normal latency if the stream does not need real-time audience interaction. Confirm that the intended YouTube stream is receiving the right feed before leaving the broadcast unattended.
