For a jewellery showroom promo, start with OBS at 1920×1080, 30 fps, H.264, CBR, 5,000 Kbps video, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 Kbps. Use Rec. 709 SDR. Treat 5,000 Kbps as a starting target, not a guarantee: test your actual upload connection and lower the bitrate or resolution if the stream drops frames. These are settings based on YouTube’s published encoder guidance, not a tested preset for every Indian connection.
Recommended OBS settings for a jewellery showroom
A mostly still counter shot with deliberate movement to show pieces generally benefits more from stable detail than from a high frame rate. Begin with 1080p30 and rehearse with the actual camera, lighting, product handling, overlays, and audio before going public.
| OBS setting | Starting value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution | 1920×1080 | Provides detail for close-ups when the connection and encoder can sustain it. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | A practical starting point for a showroom scene without fast motion. |
| Encoder | H.264 | YouTube publishes H.264 bitrate guidance for these resolutions and frame rates. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live encoding. |
| Video bitrate | 5,000 Kbps | YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30; reduce it if your connection cannot sustain it. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. At 30 fps, 2 seconds is 60 frames. |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 Kbps, 44.1 kHz | These match YouTube’s listed stereo audio recommendations. |
| Color and scan | Rec. 709 SDR, progressive scan, square pixels | Use SDR unless you have deliberately captured and validated an HDR workflow. |
YouTube’s encoder guidance also recommends two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC where the selected encoder exposes those options. Use the YouTube service and RTMPS endpoint where available. YouTube accepts H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, but the bitrate figures below are its H.264 recommendations. HDR has separate requirements, including H.265/HEVC and 10-bit; AV1 is not supported for HDR. For a straightforward showroom stream, SDR avoids that additional workflow.

Choose bitrate from a sustained upload test
Do not raise the bitrate simply because jewellery has fine detail. Sparkle and engraving can benefit from a clear image, but dropped frames or an unstable stream interrupt the presentation. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate; OBS gives 75% of total upload speed as a useful starting point for setting stream bitrate. That is a rough rule, not a promise of stable service, particularly if other devices or business traffic share the connection.
| Output | YouTube H.264 bitrate recommendation | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | Starting choice when upload and encoder remain stable. |
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | Step down if 1080p30 cannot be sustained reliably. |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps | Consider only when motion smoothness matters and the connection and computer can support the higher target. |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps | A lower-resolution 60 fps option if smooth motion is important. |
Using OBS’s 75% rule, a 5 Mbps stream target implies about 6.7 Mbps measured upload (5 divided by 0.75), before allowing for other traffic or connection variation. This derived figure is not an India-wide ISP requirement or guarantee. Test over time on the connection you will actually use. If the stream reports instability, reduce bitrate or resolution and test again.

Set up OBS and YouTube Live
- Prepare the YouTube event and stream key. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and use its stream key in OBS. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in a scene, recording, or public screenshot. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
- Configure the video output. In OBS, open Settings → Video, set the output resolution to 1920×1080, and set the common frame rate to 30 fps. If the computer struggles, try 1280×720 at 30 fps.
- Configure streaming output. Open Settings → Output and select the streaming output controls. Choose an H.264 encoder the computer can sustain, set rate control to CBR, video bitrate to the chosen target, and keyframe interval to 2 seconds if that control is available. Encoder labels and available controls can differ by encoder and OBS version.
- Configure audio and color. Use AAC stereo at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz where those controls are available. Use Rec. 709 SDR for a standard SDR camera workflow.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In Settings → Stream, choose YouTube (RTMPS where available) and connect the stream key. Confirm the correct scheduled event is selected in YouTube Studio before going live.
- Rehearse privately or unlisted. Test the actual product movement, spoken audio or music, scene changes, overlays, focus, exposure, and white balance. Check the preview, the stream health messages, the channel/watch page, and playback on a phone. If recording locally, confirm that the file is growing and that audio is present.
- Go public and keep watch. Monitor OBS’s dropped-frame counter and YouTube stream health during the broadcast. If the connection becomes unstable, reduce bitrate or output resolution rather than insisting on a sharper setting that does not hold.
Make the product look clear and trustworthy
Use consistent lighting and a neutral background, and lock exposure and white balance if the camera allows. Test polished and matte pieces at the actual shooting distance. Move items slowly enough for viewers to make out facets, engravings, and color. These are practical production suggestions, not platform-prescribed jewellery settings. YouTube and OBS do not specify a jewellery camera, lens, light, color-rendering index, or focus distance; verify the camera-to-display color workflow separately if exact color representation is commercially important.

Plan what “continuous” means for the archive
A live broadcast that stays up continuously is not automatically a dependable permanent archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a replay, schedule sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep a local OBS recording as a backup. Confirm local recording growth during the event.
YouTube also notes that DVR pause and rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If viewers are expected to join late and revisit earlier demonstrations, test DVR behavior and plan session length accordingly.

- Dropped frames or unstable connection: Check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and YouTube stream health. Lower the bitrate to a level your upload can sustain, then reduce output resolution if needed. OBS recommends wired networking for streaming; Wi-Fi, VPNs, security software, and network hardware can contribute to connection issues. A cable is only a practical option if its length and your device’s port fit the setup, not a guaranteed fix.
- Choppy video or encoder overload: Reduce output resolution or frame rate, or choose an encoder the computer can handle. Re-test with the real showroom scene; there is no universal CPU or GPU threshold established for this workload.
- Audio is missing, distorted, or out of sync: Check that the intended OBS audio source is active, its level is not clipping, and the correct microphone or mixer is selected. Rehearse spoken audio and any permitted music before the public event.
- The stream looks soft or product movement smears: Check focus, camera framing, lighting, and the movement speed first. If the connection and encoder are stable, compare 1080p30 with 1080p60; the latter has a much higher YouTube H.264 recommendation.
- No usable replay appears: Check whether the session exceeded 12 hours, and verify that OBS local recording was enabled and the file grew during the broadcast. Do not rely on an over-12-hour YouTube stream as the sole archive.
- Viewers cannot rewind to earlier demonstrations: Check the event’s DVR behavior and remember that YouTube says pause/rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours.

Copyright and channel-policy checks before promotion
Use only footage, music, and other material you have the rights to broadcast. A product showcase does not make background music or third-party clips safe to use. Check YouTube’s current live-stream and copyright rules, and watch Studio for restrictions or claims during and after the broadcast. If you plan to reuse footage across sessions, ensure it is genuinely authorized and does not mislead viewers about what is live. Review the channel’s eligibility and live-stream access in YouTube Studio before scheduling a continuous promotion.
