For a Hindi radio livestream with a mostly static visual, start in OBS with 1280×720 at 30 fps, H.264, CBR at 6,000 kbps, a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC at 128 kbps / 44.1 kHz. YouTube lists 6 Mbps as its recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30 and 3 Mbps as the minimum. These are practical starting settings for an audio-led show, not Hindi-specific requirements; your encoder and stable upload capacity determine what will work reliably.
Recommended OBS settings for a Hindi radio livestream
Hindi speech, music, and other program content do not call for a different YouTube encoding profile in the cited guidance. Choose settings for the visual, encoder, audio chain, and connection. YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate guidance recommends CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval (not more than 4 seconds), and 128 kbps stereo audio at 44.1 kHz.
| OBS setting | Starting value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution | 1280×720 | A sensible starting resolution for a radio show whose picture is mostly static. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Usually sufficient for a static or simple visual; use a higher rate only when the visual’s motion justifies it. |
| Encoder | H.264 | A straightforward baseline when available and stable on your device. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live ingestion. |
| Video bitrate | 6,000 kbps | YouTube recommends 6 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30; its listed minimum is 3 Mbps. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio codec and bitrate | AAC, stereo, 128 kbps | Matches YouTube’s published stereo-audio recommendation; MP3 is also listed as an accepted audio codec. |
| Audio sample rate | 44.1 kHz | YouTube’s published stereo recommendation. |
| Transport | RTMPS, when supported by the encoder and destination | YouTube recommends RTMPS. |
These values are not a guarantee of stream quality. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations change with codec, resolution, and frame rate. Its published 6 Mbps target is for H.264 at 720p30; do not carry it over to another resolution, frame rate, or codec without checking the relevant row in YouTube’s guidance.
Set up OBS step by step
- Choose the video size and frame rate. In OBS, open Settings → Video. Set the output (scaled) resolution to 1280×720 and the common FPS value to 30. Set the canvas resolution to suit your visual sources and layout. OBS documents its settings and output controls; avoid scaling choices that make text, artwork, or other key elements hard to read.
- Configure streaming output. Open Settings → Output and select Advanced output mode if needed to expose the streaming controls. Under the streaming section, choose H.264 if it is available and runs reliably on your system. Set rate control to CBR, bitrate to 6000 Kbps, and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. OBS encoder labels vary by hardware and software; choose an H.264 option your device can sustain rather than assuming every computer exposes the same encoder.
- Set up audio. In Settings → Audio, set the sample rate to 44.1 kHz and use stereo where appropriate. In the streaming audio encoder controls, choose AAC at 128 Kbps. Where your audio interface allows it, match its sample rate to OBS to reduce avoidable mismatches.
- Connect OBS to YouTube securely. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and copy its stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Keep the key private: treat it like a password that authorizes an encoder to send video to your channel. Prefer RTMPS if your encoder and destination support it.
- Run a representative test. Create an unlisted test or schedule a private rehearsal, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Include the actual Hindi speech or music, the visual you plan to use, and any transitions or overlays. YouTube advises testing before going live and continuously monitoring audio and video quality.
Adjust settings for your upload and visual
If the connection cannot hold 6 Mbps
A speed-test peak is not proof that your upload can sustain a live stream. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate. If the connection fluctuates or OBS reports dropped frames, try a lower YouTube-supported resolution and bitrate combination, then retest under the same conditions. Leave headroom for normal network variation and other devices using the connection; prioritize a stable stream over a higher number in the settings.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the visual has substantial motion
For a static logo, artwork, or simple radio visual, 30 fps is a practical starting point. If the stream includes frequent movement, compare 30 fps with 60 fps only when your computer, encoder, and upload can sustain the higher rate. YouTube publishes separate bitrate guidance by frame rate, so use the matching recommendation rather than the 720p30 figure.
If an alternative codec is available
YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 as supported codecs for live ingestion, but OBS only offers options supported by your software and hardware. Bitrate guidance varies by codec and resolution. If changing from H.264, look up the exact YouTube recommendation for that codec and output rather than reusing the H.264 720p30 target.

Check eligibility and music rights before broadcasting
Technical settings do not grant permission to broadcast music. YouTube’s livestream terms say creators must hold the necessary rights for live content on Google services, including music licensing rights and relevant territory permissions. A track labelled “free” is not necessarily cleared for a livestream.
- YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. A match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast.
- Even licensed music can trigger an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel for Content ID. Confirm allowlisting requirements with the rights holder or licensor before the show.
- YouTube’s music guidance identifies public-domain material and music used with rights-holder permission as safe routes, and points creators to the YouTube Audio Library, original music, Creator Music where available, and third-party catalogs whose licences must be checked for the intended use. Creator Music restrictions can exclude live streams, so a track’s availability for ordinary videos does not establish that it is cleared for a radio livestream.
- YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its start guide specifies a minimum age of 16.
Troubleshoot common OBS livestream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames or an unstable stream | Upload capacity is insufficient or inconsistent, or other network activity is competing for bandwidth. | Run an upload test, reduce resolution or bitrate to a supported combination, limit competing uploads, and repeat the test while monitoring stream health. |
| Encoder overload or choppy video | The chosen encoder or output settings exceed what the computer can sustain. | Check OBS’s available encoder choices and system load; lower the output resolution or frame rate and test again. |
| Audio is missing, distorted, or out of sync | Incorrect OBS source selection, levels, or sample-rate mismatch may be involved. | Confirm the intended audio source is active, inspect its meter and monitoring, and match the interface and OBS sample rates where possible. Check the YouTube preview before broadcasting to viewers. |
| YouTube displays a copyright warning or interrupts the stream | A third-party match may have been detected, or the channel may not be allowlisted despite a licence. | Stop using uncleared material; verify the licence covers live use and the relevant territories, then confirm any Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder. |
| OBS cannot connect or the stream appears on the wrong event | The stream key or destination may be incorrect, expired, or associated with another scheduled stream. | Check the selected YouTube event and copy its current stream key into OBS. Do not share the key; reset it in YouTube if it may have been exposed. |
