Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a 1080p, 30 fps YouTube Live stream encoded in H.264, set OBS to 1920×1080 at 30 fps, use CBR at YouTube’s recommended 14,000 Kbps video bitrate, and set a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube lists 5,000 Kbps as the minimum for this format, but the best stable bitrate depends on your upload connection. Test before going live and reduce the bitrate if OBS reports dropped frames.
Recommended OBS settings for YouTube Live at 1080p30
These settings are for YouTube live ingest using H.264, SDR, 1920×1080 output at 30 fps. In OBS, open Settings → Video for resolution and frame rate, then Settings → Output → Streaming for encoder and bitrate options. Labels and available encoders can vary by OBS version, operating system, and hardware.
| Setting | Value or guidance |
|---|---|
| Output (Scaled) Resolution | 1920×1080 |
| Common FPS Value | 30 |
| Video encoder | H.264 encoder available on your computer |
| Rate Control | CBR |
| Video bitrate | 14,000 Kbps recommended; YouTube lists 5,000 Kbps minimum for H.264 at 1080p30 |
| Keyframe Interval | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; YouTube recommends 128 Kbps stereo and lists 44.1 kHz stereo sampling |
| Protocol | RTMPS recommended |
| Pixel aspect and scan | Square pixels; progressive |
| SDR color | Rec. 709, 8-bit |
| Advanced video options | CABAC, 2 B-frames, 1 reference frame, if supported by the selected encoder |
The 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommendation come from YouTube’s current English live encoder settings, accessed in 2026, and apply specifically to H.264 live ingestion at 1080p30. They are not values from YouTube’s separate prerecorded-upload encoding table.
Set resolution, frame rate, and scaling
- In OBS, open Settings → Video.
- Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1920×1080 and Common FPS Value to 30.
- Choose a Base (Canvas) Resolution that fits your sources and scene composition. The canvas is the workspace; the output resolution is what OBS sends. If they differ, OBS scales the image, so choose a downscale filter appropriate to that scaling.
For gameplay, make sure the OBS scene itself is composed for the 16:9 output: check that the game capture fills the frame as intended and that overlays or text are not cropped. These checks affect the picture viewers receive, not YouTube’s bitrate recommendation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set the H.264 encoder and bitrate
- Open Settings → Output and select the Streaming tab. If your Output Mode hides the relevant controls, select an advanced mode that exposes them; exact labels vary by OBS build.
- Select an H.264 encoder available on your system. Hardware versus software encoder choice depends on the computer and its available encoder options.
- Set Rate Control to CBR.
- Set the video bitrate to 14,000 Kbps if your upload connection can sustain it. YouTube’s listed 1080p30 H.264 minimum is 5,000 Kbps; a lower stable bitrate may be preferable to one that causes connection drops, with reduced bitrate potentially reducing image quality.
- Set Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four.
Do not carry the H.264 figures over to a different codec: YouTube’s same live-ingest table lists 4 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended for AV1/H.265 at 1080p30. Encoder availability and platform guidance differ by codec.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and retrieve the stream key and ingest details provided for it.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service when available, and connect the account or enter the stream key as prompted. If configuring a custom destination, use the stream URL and key supplied by YouTube; RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended ingest protocol.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, include it in a screenshot, or share it with someone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Start the stream in OBS, then check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators before making the broadcast public or proceeding with the planned stream.
YouTube detects resolution and frame rate automatically by default and transcodes the incoming stream into different viewer formats. Manual resolution selection is optional and requires a custom stream key and manual settings in Live Control Room. The bitrate set in OBS is for the source feed; it is not necessarily the bitrate each viewer receives after YouTube processing.

Check advanced video and audio settings
YouTube’s advanced recommendations for SDR include square pixels, progressive scan, Rec. 709 at 8-bit, CABAC, two B-frames, and one reference frame. Apply encoder-specific options only if your selected H.264 encoder exposes and supports them; do not assume every software or hardware encoder presents identical controls.
For stereo audio, use AAC or MP3. YouTube recommends 128 Kbps and lists 44.1 kHz stereo sampling. Confirm that OBS meters show your game and microphone audio as expected, and listen to the preview if available; a technically correct video configuration cannot compensate for missing, distorted, or unbalanced audio.

Test the stream and adjust for network stability
YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to what you plan to stream. Run a test before a live event, check the YouTube stream-health messages, and watch OBS’s dropped-frame status. A static desktop is not a useful substitute for a high-motion game scene when judging how the stream behaves.
- If OBS reports dropped frames: the connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate. Lower the bitrate and test again. Lowering it can trade image quality for stability.
- If YouTube does not show the expected resolution or frame rate: verify OBS’s output resolution and FPS, and check whether your YouTube stream is using default automatic detection or manual resolution settings with a custom stream key.
- If the stream does not connect: recheck the selected YouTube service, the stream URL if entered manually, and the stream key in Live Control Room. Replace an exposed or possibly stale key.
- If the picture is soft or text is hard to read: check that output is actually 1920×1080 and that the bitrate is not set unnecessarily low; compare the OBS output and YouTube preview during a test.
OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide explains dropped-frame and connection issues. OBS’s overview guide covers its main interface, while its profiles guide describes saving settings for reuse. The figures here are a starting configuration based on YouTube’s published guidance, not a performance guarantee for a particular PC, encoder, OBS build, or internet connection.
