What armor and skills should I use for Omega?
The following is the complete collaboration loadout published by Icy Veins in its Great Sword endgame guide, last updated December 22, 2025. It lists a HR 100+ requirement and materials obtained after defeating Omega Planetes. Is True Shadowbringer worth using?
True Shadowbringer is the central reason to choose this loadout: it has a dedicated weapon skill and is the collaboration build’s primary Great Sword. Its drawback is that it consumes hunter HP while dealing damage. The guide pairs it with Resentment and describes the overall build as high-risk/high-reward. That makes the weapon a considered choice for players who can stay on offense without letting its HP cost turn into a faint; players prioritizing safer survival may prefer a different setup. How do you unlock the Omega fight and build?
Free Title Update 3 introduced Omega Planetes and the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration. PlayStation’s September 2025 update announcement says hunters must be HR 41 or higher and have completed “What Lies Ahead” to take on the special extra mission in Iceshard Cliffs. The build itself is a later progression target: Icy Veins specifies HR 100+ and Omega materials. Its guide says “Invader from the Stars” unlocks the Savage fight, but quest availability and unlock sequencing can change with updates, so check the current in-game quest requirements rather than treating a 2025 guide as a live quest schedule.
Capcom’s September 27, 2025 announcement described Planetes Protocol (Savage) as a permanent 9-star event quest in Rimechain Peak to slay Omega Planetes, with rewards including Omega Attire α, Omega’s Sword, and Omega’s Rod. When should you use a different Great Sword build?
“Best” depends on the target and the player’s priorities. A September 2026 build listing for game version 1.042 gives a separate HR 100+ elemental Great Sword setup specifically for farming Gogmazios: fire Ostrak Oblivion for phases one and two, dragon for phase three, with Focus 3, Weakness Exploit 5, Agitator 5, Maximum Might 3, and defensive support including Divine Blessing 3. The listing says elemental Great Sword is used there specifically for Gogmazios, while raw builds are used for other targets. - Choose the Omega setup when you want the collaboration weapon and are comfortable managing its HP drain.
- Choose a target-specific set when a particular monster’s elemental weakness or phases call for a different damage type.
- Favor comfort over the listed offensive setup if you are learning the fight or find the HP cost makes your hunts less consistent.
Decorations and armor variants also affect how easily a build can be adapted. PlayStation’s endgame guide explains that decorations add weapon- and monster-specific bonuses, while α armor trades some decoration slots for more preset skills and β armor generally offers more slots. Use those differences to tune the set around the skills and decorations you actually have, rather than assuming every player can reproduce the exact listed arrangement immediately.
