For another polished third-person action adventure, start with Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut or Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. Pick Cyberpunk 2077 for a dense futuristic city, or Death Stranding Director’s Cut if you want a much slower journey built around traversal and deliveries. The right next game depends less on the word “open-world” than on the kind of play you want after the credits roll.
First, check that the game is in your local catalog
PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can access the Game Catalog on PlayStation’s US membership page. PlayStation’s May 22, 2026 catalog article likewise lists games for Extra and Premium/Deluxe members, but says lineups may differ by region. Its 13-game open-world list is a useful guide, not a guarantee that every title is still available in every local catalog. Check the game’s listing in your regional PlayStation Store before choosing.

Choose by the kind of world and pace you want
| What you want next | Try | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Sword combat, stealth, and a cinematic historical setting | Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut | Its samurai story lets you approach conflict through direct combat or stealth and deception. |
| Another machine-filled world to explore | Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered | Aloy’s adventure combines exploration, climbing, stealth, ranged combat, and encounters with robotic creatures. |
| A dense city and flexible character builds | Cyberpunk 2077 | Night City is the setting, while character attributes support different approaches, including hacking and weapon specialization. |
| A deliberate change of rhythm | Death Stranding Director’s Cut | Sam Bridges carries deliveries across a devastated United States, with cargo management and difficult terrain central to the journey. |
These are recommendations drawn from PlayStation’s official descriptions, not a hands-on ranking. If what you liked about the remaster was a focused third-person adventure, the two remastered or cinematic choices are the closest fit. For a more substantial shift, choose the delivery-and-traversal loop or trade wilderness for a build-driven city.
#1 Best Overall
- BECOME A FEARSOME PIRATE- Strike fear in your foes as you board and sink enemy vessels as Edward Kenway, captain of the Jackdaw. Whether blending into crowds or leading daring assaults, switch between silent takedowns and fierce brawls as you effortlessly wield swords, pistols, and the Hidden Blade. With a cast of historical pirate legends at your side, defy empires amidst the age-old conflict opposing Assassins and Templars.
- A CLASSIC REBUILT FOR AN ENHANCED EXPERIENCE- Combat has been rebuilt for more dynamic encounters, emphasizing parries and takedowns, while stealth and parkour have been improved for smoother escapes and assassinations. Continuously upgrade the Jackdaw to face powerful enemy ships with enhanced naval mechanics featuring new alternate fire modes. Quality-of-life additions also address previous pain points, ensuring your experience is improved.
- THE CARIBBEAN LIKE NEVER BEFORE- Whether you’re sailing the open seas or journeying across untamed lands, discover a seamless open world built with the latest Anvil engine. Take in sweeping vistas as you brave stormy waters, dive into underwater shipwrecks, or push through dense tropical jungles. Enhanced by features such as Dolby Atmos and ray tracing, every scene feels more immersive, bringing the world’s beauty to life.
- EXPANDING EDWARD’S ADVENTURE- Building on top of the original story, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced introduces exclusive new content. Familiar faces will return, with new storylines dedicated to fan-favorite characters such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Unexpected allies will also cross your path, as three officers join you on your journey as part of the main narrative. More surprises await, such as new sea shanties, pets, a photo mode, and more.
More open-world options on PlayStation Plus
PlayStation’s May 2026 article includes these other choices. Their open-world appeal ranges from role-playing and settlements to crime stories, city diversions, and fast-moving action.
| Game | Best fit if you want… |
|---|---|
| Fallout 4 | A post-apocalyptic role-playing game where your actions shape character development, settlements, and factions, with companions along the way. |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | A slower, detailed Western world centered on Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang. |
| Assassin’s Creed Valhalla | Viking-era exploration, raids, settlement expansion, stealth, and a customizable Eivor. |
| Far Cry 6 | First-person resistance action with varied weapons and vehicles, led by Dani Rojas in a fictionalized revolutionary setting. |
| Grand Theft Auto V | A contemporary crime story with three protagonists and heists in a large city. |
| Hogwarts Legacy | Magical-school exploration alongside spell learning, potion brewing, plant growing, and crafting. |
| Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth | Turn-based role-playing combat, comedy, and city exploration with diversions in Yokohama and Honolulu. |
| Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 | Fast movement through an expanded Marvel New York, including Web Wings, with a story following Peter Parker and Miles Morales. |
| Star Wars Outlaws | A space-western mix of cantinas, speeders, space combat, and alien gangs. |
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is the less conventional open-world pick here: the emphasis is on exploring cities and finding activities, rather than traversing a large wilderness. Star Wars Outlaws was noted as a May 2026 catalog addition in the official article; confirm its current regional listing rather than assuming it remains available.
