Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a smoother Palworld session on PC, start with a Custom profile based on High, then adjust the settings that match your slowdown: view distance, grass, buildings, shadows, or effects. Test each change in the same save and in traversal, crowded areas, and combat. There is no verified universal preset or guaranteed FPS gain; the result depends on your hardware, game version, and what is happening in the scene.
Start with a High-based Custom profile
SCUF’s settings guide, updated August 10, 2026, recommends using a Custom profile based on High rather than dropping every setting to Low or moving everything to Epic. Treat its recommendations as starting points to test, not as a measured or guaranteed preset. Menu labels and behavior can change between game versions.
| Setting | Starting point to test | When to consider changing it |
|---|---|---|
| View Distance | Medium | Try lowering it if traversal or distant scenery coincides with slowdown. |
| Grass Details | Medium | Try lowering it if moving quickly through the world feels choppy. |
| Building Drawing Distance | Test a lower setting | SCUF suggests it as an option to reduce when fast traversal stutters. |
| Shadows | Medium | Test a lower level if you need to trade visual detail for smoother play. |
| Effects Quality | Low or Medium | Test during combat with several effects and Pals active. |
| Texture Quality | Keep it unless testing points to VRAM pressure | SCUF says texture quality primarily affects VRAM use, so it is not necessarily the first setting to lower for traversal stutter. |
Choose changes based on where performance drops
Stutter while moving through the world
Try lowering View Distance, Grass Details, or Building Drawing Distance one at a time. Repeat the same short route after each change so you can tell whether it helped. Do not assume that lowering textures or resolution is the first or best response to this specific symptom.
Slowdowns in combat or crowded areas
Check Effects Quality during a fight with multiple effects and active Pals. A quiet field or empty base may not represent the load of a busy scene: Steam warns that “Performance may vary depending on the amount of active Pals.”

Balancing image quality and upscaling
If your system offers DLSS, SCUF suggests trying Quality first, then Balanced if you are not maintaining your desired frame rate. If DLSS is unavailable, it suggests TSR. More aggressive upscaling modes can reduce image quality. The available sources do not establish a specific FPS gain for any mode, so judge the result on your PC.
Test settings in representative scenes
Use the same save and repeat a short route after each setting change. Check smoothness and frame pacing as well as average FPS: a higher average does not necessarily mean motion feels consistently smooth. Change one setting at a time, and include all three types of workload below. This is a practical testing method suggested by SCUF, not a published benchmark.

- Fast traversal: move along the same route to check whether scenery and world movement remain smooth.
- A crowded area: test a populated base or other busy location; a quiet area may understate the load from active Pals.
- Combat: test with several Pals or visual effects active rather than judging Effects Quality in an empty field.
For frame rate, SCUF suggests either choosing a consistent cap—such as 60, 90, or 120 FPS—or testing uncapped performance, depending on how the system behaves. Compare capped and uncapped play in the same scene; a cap is a system-specific choice, not a universal target.
Check the PC requirements before chasing settings
Steam lists the following Windows PC requirements for Palworld. These specifications do not promise a particular resolution or frame rate.

Pocketpair’s version 1.0 release included large-scale changes to graphics and other areas, so older Early Access settings guides may not match the current build. Later PC patch notes changed the default FPS cap to 120 and included display fixes, including a fullscreen resolution issue. Those are version-specific notes, not a recommendation that every PC should target 120 FPS. Check the current in-game options after major updates.

If choppiness persists across different types of scenes, compare the relevant settings using the same save and route, then check basic system and installation factors. SCUF also suggests updating GPU drivers, verifying game files, using an SSD, and closing unnecessary background applications while testing. Its warning about mods is third-party guidance; a performance mod is not a guaranteed fix.
