For readers who still want to experiment, KytyPS5 is the strongest Windows-specific option available among the projects reviewed here. It is free, open source, and documents limited support for booting selected 2D and 3D software—but it remains early-stage, with crashes, graphical glitches, low compatibility, and poor performance.
SharpEmu is the most interesting cross-platform research alternative, while RPCSX is primarily a Linux research project rather than a practical Windows recommendation. If your goal is simply to play PlayStation games on a Windows PC, an official PC release or PS Remote Play is usually a far better choice.
The short answer
Choose KytyPS5 if you specifically want to test PS5 emulation on a Windows PC and understand that success will be experimental and highly inconsistent. Its official project documentation describes a Windows-focused C++ emulator that can boot 2D games and a selection of 3D games, including software made with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, Unity, and custom engines.
That does not mean that KytyPS5 offers broad commercial-game compatibility. “Can boot” may mean reaching an early execution or video-output stage rather than delivering a stable, playable game. The project itself warns users to expect crashes, visual problems, limited compatibility, and poor performance.

If you want a dependable way to play a specific PS5 title, check for an official Windows release first. If you own a PS5, PS Remote Play is another practical option: it streams games from your console to a compatible Windows desktop or laptop, rather than emulating the console.
Best PS5 emulators for Windows, ranked
| Rank | Project | Best suited to | Windows outlook |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | KytyPS5 | Windows experimentation | The clearest Windows-first PS5 project, with documented Vulkan 1.3 requirements and a launcher. Still early-stage and not a consumer-ready emulator. |
| 2 | SharpEmu | Cross-platform technical research | Runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS and documents several low-level milestones, but critical components remain incomplete and compatibility is variable. |
| 3 | RPCSX | Linux-based research | An experimental PS4 and PS5 emulator whose current project description identifies Linux as its target platform. Not a sensible Windows gaming pick. |
| 4 | Original Kyty | Historical and development context | An older PS4/PS5 Windows project. Do not assume that its repository’s capabilities or status are identical to the newer KytyPS5 project. |
This ranking is about relative suitability for experimentation, not frame rates, compatibility percentages, or guaranteed game support. None of the reviewed projects provides evidence of mature, broad PS5-game compatibility on Windows.
1. KytyPS5: the best Windows-specific experiment
KytyPS5 is a free, open-source PS5 emulator written in C++ and positioned specifically for Windows. Its published documentation lists Windows 10 support, x64 processors, and a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU as requirements. It also includes a launcher and reports that the project can boot 2D games and a selection of 3D games.
The documented 3D scope includes some software built with:
Recommended Free Tools
- Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 5
- Unity
- Custom engines
Those engine references describe the kinds of software the project has targeted; they are not a promise that every game made with one of those engines will run. Compatibility can depend on system software, graphics features, game-specific code, missing emulator components, and the exact build being tested.
KytyPS5’s own warnings are important: it is early-stage, may crash, can display substantial graphical glitches, has low compatibility, and may perform poorly. Meeting its hardware requirements only means that the computer satisfies a documented prerequisite. It does not guarantee that a particular game will boot or run at a usable frame rate.
Verdict: KytyPS5 is the best answer to “which project should I try on Windows?” It is not the best answer to “which emulator will let me play my PS5 library reliably?” No project in this review earns that description.
2. SharpEmu: promising infrastructure, not a plug-and-play solution
SharpEmu is an experimental PS5 emulator written in C# for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Its documentation describes several meaningful technical milestones: it can load a game’s eboot.bin, execute native CPU instructions, read basic metadata, load system modules, and partially handle kernel functionality.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Those milestones matter to emulator development, but they should not be mistaken for complete gameplay. SharpEmu explicitly emphasizes accuracy and infrastructure rather than promising broad game-specific compatibility, and it notes that several critical components are still missing.
Its game-status table includes projects such as Demon’s Souls Remake, Dreaming Sarah, Void Terrarium, and Dead Cells. The available status information is not enough to describe SharpEmu as a broadly playable Windows emulator, and a listing in a status table should not be read as a guarantee of stable gameplay.
SharpEmu requires a Vulkan-capable GPU and current graphics drivers. On Windows and Linux it uses Vulkan; on macOS it uses MoltenVK. Compatibility and performance can vary considerably by game, operating system, and driver.
Verdict: Choose SharpEmu if you are interested in cross-platform emulator architecture, low-level execution, or testing an incomplete research project. Choose KytyPS5 first if your priority is specifically trying PS5 emulation on Windows.

3. RPCSX: a research project, not a Windows recommendation
RPCSX describes itself as an experimental PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 emulator written in C++ for Linux. Although its official FAQ discusses Windows, the current repository description identifies Linux as the primary target.
That distinction matters. A project mentioning Windows in a FAQ is not the same as offering a current, supported Windows gaming build. RPCSX is worth knowing about as part of the wider PS4/PS5 emulation landscape, but it should not be presented as one of the best Windows choices.
4. Original Kyty: keep it separate from KytyPS5
The original Kyty repository describes a PS4 and PS5 emulator for Windows 10 x64. It is relevant historical and development context, but it should not be merged with KytyPS5’s claims.
For this Windows-focused 2026 comparison, KytyPS5 is the more relevant project because it presents a PS5-focused codebase, a clearer current status statement, and a Windows-first orientation. Capabilities documented by the original Kyty repository should not automatically be attributed to KytyPS5, or vice versa.

What “works” actually means in PS5 emulation
Emulator coverage is often described too loosely. There is a large difference between loading a file and playing a game reliably:
- Application or executable loading: The emulator accepts a file such as
eboot.binand begins processing it. - Native execution: The emulator executes some of the game’s CPU instructions or reaches an early program state.
- Module and system handling: It loads some system modules or partially handles kernel functionality.
- Video output: The program produces an image or reaches a recognizable rendering stage.
- Menu or gameplay: The game progresses far enough to show menus or interactive scenes.
- Playable stability: It runs for a meaningful period with acceptable performance, working graphics, audio, input, and no game-breaking crashes.
SharpEmu’s documentation supports claims around several of the earlier technical milestones and describes video output in some cases. That evidence should not be converted into a claim of complete gameplay. KytyPS5’s documentation likewise supports a limited experimental description, not a promise of stable commercial-game support.
For that reason, be skeptical of pages claiming “full-speed PS5 emulation,” “runs every PS5 game,” or a guaranteed result for a specific major release such as GTA VI. The reviewed project documentation does not support those claims.
Requirements for trying KytyPS5 on Windows
The following requirements come from the project’s published documentation. They are not an independently tested hardware recommendation or a promise of performance.
| Requirement | Documented expectation | What it does—and does not—mean |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 1803 or newer | This is the project’s documented Windows baseline, not a guarantee that every current Windows configuration will behave identically. |
| Processor | 64-bit x86 processor | The CPU must support the documented x64 target. No specific model or performance tier is promised. |
| Graphics API | Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU | The graphics device and its driver must expose the required API. This does not guarantee a playable frame rate. |
| Drivers | Current graphics drivers | Outdated or incomplete Vulkan drivers can prevent startup or cause rendering problems. |
If you are upgrading a computer specifically to test the emulator, a Vulkan 1.3-capable graphics card is the relevant category to investigate. Do not treat any particular model, price tier, or advertised gaming performance as a KytyPS5 guarantee: the project does not publish an authoritative GPU compatibility or performance matrix.
Requirements for building KytyPS5 from source
Building the project is a separate task from running a release. KytyPS5’s documented development prerequisites include:
- Git
- CMake
- Ninja
- Visual Studio 2022 or the corresponding Build Tools
- The Desktop C++ workload
- Clang tools
- Qt 6 for MSVC 2022 64-bit
The project specifies using clang-cl rather than Microsoft’s cl.exe. If you only want to test an available release, you should not assume that installing the full development toolchain is necessary; follow the current project’s own release and build documentation for the version you are using.
SharpEmu requirements
SharpEmu also documents a Vulkan-capable GPU and current graphics drivers. Because it supports multiple operating systems and remains incomplete, the same hardware can produce different results depending on the operating system, driver, and game. There is no reliable basis in the reviewed documentation for naming one “best” GPU or predicting a frame rate.

- Confirm the project and platform. For Windows, start with KytyPS5 or investigate SharpEmu as a cross-platform research project. Do not select RPCSX merely because its name appears in a PS5 emulator list; its current target is Linux.
- Check the project’s current documentation. Experimental projects change quickly. Confirm that the build, operating-system support, and requirements still apply to the release you intend to use.
- Verify Vulkan before troubleshooting the emulator. Update the GPU driver through the hardware vendor’s normal support channel and confirm that the system exposes the required Vulkan version.
- Use only legally obtained game and system files. The projects do not distribute copyrighted game data or proprietary PlayStation assets. Do not download unauthorized game dumps, firmware, or system software from unofficial sources.
- Test one title at a time. Record the emulator build, operating system, driver version, settings, and the exact point reached. “It launched” and “it was playable” should be recorded as different outcomes.
- Expect crashes and visual corruption. Save work elsewhere, avoid treating an emulator test as a stable gaming setup, and do not infer general compatibility from one successful boot.
There is no supported evidence here that these projects provide PlayStation Network or PlayStation Store access. An emulator should not be presented as a way to obtain copyrighted games or official system software.

Official PC releases are usually the better Windows option
If your goal is to play a particular PlayStation game—not to study emulation—the first place to look is PlayStation’s current official PC catalog. It includes releases such as Helldivers 2, Days Gone, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Stellar Blade, The Last of Us Part I, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, and Until Dawn, among others.
Availability changes by title, region, and date. The existence of a PC catalog does not mean that every PS5 exclusive is available for Windows, so check the current listing for the specific game you want. An official PC release generally provides a much more predictable installation, update, controller, and performance experience than an early-stage emulator.
PS Remote Play: the practical choice if you own a PS5
PS Remote Play is streaming, not emulation. Sony’s free app streams PS5 and PS4 games from a console to a compatible desktop or laptop. It requires an actual PS5 or PS4 console; it does not let a Windows PC run PS5 software independently.
Sony lists 5 Mbps as the minimum broadband requirement and recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better experience. Those figures do not guarantee perfect latency or image quality. Wi-Fi congestion, upload speed, local network quality, distance from the console, and the game itself can all affect the result.
Remote Play is the better fit when:
- You already own the PS5 and the desired game.
- You want to play in another room or on a laptop.
- You value access to your existing console library more than native PC rendering.
- You do not want to troubleshoot incomplete emulator components.
It is the wrong fit if you do not own the console, need offline local execution, or require latency equivalent to playing directly on the PS5.
Controller recommendation for Windows and Remote Play
A controller is not a requirement established by KytyPS5 or SharpEmu, and it cannot solve emulator compatibility problems. For a PS5-style Windows setup or Remote Play, however, a DualSense wireless controller for PC is a natural optional accessory. Sony documents Windows connectivity through USB-C or Bluetooth and support for controller-compatible PC games.
Sony also documents DualSense use with PS Remote Play on Windows through a USB connection. Advanced haptics and adaptive triggers vary by game, software support, and connection method, so do not assume that every PC game, Remote Play session, or emulator exposes every DualSense feature.
If you prefer a wired connection and do not already have a suitable lead, a USB-C cable for DualSense is a basic connectivity accessory. It does not unlock emulator-specific features or improve an emulator’s compatibility.
Legal and file-sourcing boundaries
Emulation software and copyrighted game or system data are separate issues. The projects reviewed here state that they do not distribute copyrighted game files or proprietary PlayStation assets, and they ask users to work with legally obtained files. KytyPS5 also states that it is not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Do not use this guide as a route to download unauthorized PS5 game dumps or firmware. Sony’s support guidance directs users toward official system-software update files rather than data from unofficial sources. The safest rule is simple: obtain software through lawful means, follow the emulator project’s documentation, and do not redistribute copyrighted files.
Which option should you choose?
| Your goal | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Experiment with PS5 emulation specifically on Windows | KytyPS5 | It has the clearest Windows-first positioning and the most direct documentation for selected PS5 software, while openly warning that it is early-stage. |
| Study cross-platform emulator infrastructure | SharpEmu | It supports Windows, Linux, and macOS and documents low-level execution and system components, but remains incomplete. |
| Play a game already available for Windows | Official PC release | Native support is generally more reliable than experimental emulation. |
| Play your PS5 library on a Windows laptop | PS Remote Play | It streams from your own console and avoids the compatibility limits of PS5 emulation, but requires the console and a suitable network. |
| Try RPCSX on Windows | Wait or use its supported Linux environment | The current project description identifies Linux as the target platform. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a PS5 emulator that runs every PS5 game on Windows?
No reviewed project provides evidence of universal or mature PS5-game compatibility. KytyPS5 reports selected 2D and 3D booting but also warns of crashes, glitches, low compatibility, and poor performance. SharpEmu remains incomplete, and RPCSX is primarily Linux-focused.
Can KytyPS5 run GTA VI on a Windows PC?
There is no evidence in the reviewed KytyPS5 documentation to support that claim. Do not treat general statements about booting selected games or supporting particular engines as proof that a specific major release will run.
Is PS Remote Play the same as a PS5 emulator?
No. Remote Play streams games from a PS5 or PS4 console to a Windows computer. It requires the console and a network connection; the PC does not execute the PS5 game itself.
What GPU is best for KytyPS5?
The documented requirement is a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with current drivers. KytyPS5 does not provide an authoritative GPU model or performance matrix, so no particular graphics card can be responsibly guaranteed as the best choice.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: KytyPS5 is the best current Windows-specific PS5 emulation experiment, but there is no mature universal PS5 emulator for Windows in 2026. Use it only if you are comfortable with incomplete compatibility and troubleshooting. For actually playing games, choose an official PC release when available, or use PS Remote Play if you own the console.
