For a PS5 RPG released in 2021, start with Scarlet Nexus or Tales of Arise if you want a new game; choose Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade if you want an enhanced PS5 edition of a 2020 game plus a new Yuffie episode. There is no comparable evidence here to rank them definitively, so the best fit depends on which story and combat style you want.
Which PS5 RPGs from 2021 are worth considering?
These three games form a useful shortlist, not a complete ranking of every PS5 RPG released that year. The distinction between a new release and an enhanced edition matters: Intergrade brought a PS5 version of an existing game, while Scarlet Nexus and Tales of Arise are identified as 2021 PS5 action RPG releases.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade: an enhanced edition with a Yuffie episode
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade arrived on PS5 on June 10, 2021. Square Enix described it as an enhanced and expanded edition of Final Fantasy VII Remake, originally released for PS4 in 2020—not an entirely new main-story game for 2021. The added FF7R EPISODE INTERmission follows Yuffie. PlayStation Store specifies that the PS5 version and related updates are required to play the episode.
PlayStation’s 2021 Game of the Year results included Intergrade in the Best Re-Release category. That is an official retrospective selection, not a genre-specific award or proof that it was the year’s single best RPG. See PlayStation’s 2021 winners.

Scarlet Nexus and Tales of Arise: new-release candidates
Scarlet Nexus and Tales of Arise appear as PS5 action RPG releases in 2021. They belong in a new-release shortlist, distinct from Intergrade’s enhanced-edition status. The available release-list source is provisional and does not establish title-specific details such as combat systems, story premises, edition differences, or PS5 features; check the individual game listings before buying if those specifics will decide your choice.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose among them
- Want an expanded PS5 version of a game that began on PS4? Consider Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, especially if the Yuffie episode is part of the appeal.
- Want a game identified as a new 2021 PS5 release? Compare Scarlet Nexus and Tales of Arise using their individual descriptions and gameplay footage; this shortlist does not support a reliable preference between them.
- Choosing for a first-time PlayStation player? Use the game’s premise, combat presentation, and edition details to judge accessibility and fit. The evidence here does not establish which is the easiest starting point.
The shortlist uses a 2021 release list as a provisional cross-check for Scarlet Nexus and Tales of Arise, rather than a complete, title-by-title verification. PlayStation’s award page offers retrospective context for Intergrade, but does not supply comparable review scores across all three games. For that reason, this is a set of candidates rather than a best-to-worst ranking.
