Quick answer: Buy the Logitech G29 when it is substantially cheaper than newer options, the Thrustmaster T300RS GT Edition for the best conventional all-round setup, the Thrustmaster T598 for the most compelling new direct-drive value, the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro 8 Nm for a premium complete bundle, and the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Extreme only if you have a rigid cockpit and an enthusiast-level budget.
All recommendations below are for PlayStation versions compatible with Gran Turismo 7 on PS5 and PS4. U.S. prices are manufacturer prices or sale signals observed in August 2026 and can change with stock, tax and promotions.

Best budget wheel: Logitech G29
The G29 remains the cheapest wheel worth targeting when you find it clearly below T300RS GT pricing. It has force feedback, a three-pedal set and paddle shifters, so it is a genuine step up from a non-force-feedback toy wheel. PlayStation lists it among compatible racing wheels.
#1 Best Overall
- PlayStation compatible: Officially licensed for PS5 and PS4 consoles. Also works on Windows PC
- 5 Nm Direct Drive servo motor: Custom-designed in Germany for sim racing providing linear, consistent performance with patented FluxBarrier technology to improve motor efficiency and smoothness
- Passively cooled base: Housing is made from aluminum (passive heat sink, core structural component) with composite end caps
- Steering wheel designed by Polyphony Digital: Tactile rubber grip with OLED display and diffused RevLED strip, compact 280 mm diameter, optimized for the PlayStation interface
- Four 5-way directional sticks: Assigned to GT7's rapid-access adjustments for traction control, brake balance, torque split, and fuel mapping
Its limitation is the older gear-driven mechanism: steering feedback is audible and more notchy than a belt or direct-drive system. Add the Logitech Driving Force Shifter for an inexpensive H-pattern setup; Logitech’s cited promotional material lists $59.99, but that is not a guaranteed permanent retail price. Official pages are G29 and Driving Force Shifter.
Do not buy a G29 when its total cost approaches a discounted T300RS GT. At that point, the smoother belt drive is the more meaningful upgrade.
G923 versus G29: pay for TRUEFORCE only at the right price
The G923 adds Logitech’s TRUEFORCE feature to the same basic gear-driven class and remains a complete PS5/PS4/PC three-pedal package. It can be the sensible choice when its premium is small or you specifically want TRUEFORCE support. It is not a fundamental change to the steering mechanism, however, so it is poor value when priced close to the T300RS GT or T598. See the official G923 page.
Best overall: Thrustmaster T300RS GT Edition
The T300RS GT is the strongest conventional recommendation for most GT7 players. Its brushless motor and belt-driven force feedback provide a smoother, quieter feel than gear-driven Logitech wheels; it offers 1080-degree rotation, a three-pedal GT set and official Gran Turismo/PlayStation licensing for PS5, PS4 and PC. Product references are Thrustmaster, the U.S. shop and Gran Turismo.

The U.S. shop showed $379.99 on sale versus $449.99 listed. That is a price signal, not a permanent price. The complete package is generally a better starting point than buying the T300 servo base alone for $299.99 and then adding pedals.

- Compatible with PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC .Use the HORI Device Manager app to download firmware, adjust settings and make up to 4 custom profiles
- Full-size racing wheel and pedals optimized for authentic racing simulation
- 270-degree turn radius with adjustable output options
- Mount security with sturdy clamp system
- Use the HORI Device Manager app to download firmware, adjust settings and make up to 4 custom profiles
It is older than the T598 and is not direct drive. Availability, belt wear and heat management also matter more with an older design, so check retailer warranty and current stock.
Best setup for manual shifting
“Manual” can mean three different things in GT7:
- Paddles: included on most wheel rims and the fastest, most practical option for many race cars.
- Clutch pedal: included with a three-pedal set; useful only where the car and driving mode make clutch operation meaningful.
- H-pattern shifter: a separate accessory that reproduces physical road-car gear positions, mainly for immersion.
Lowest-cost complete manual path
Choose a G29 or G923 with the Logitech Driving Force Shifter. This is the least expensive route to three pedals and an H-pattern shifter, but the shifter and wheel hardware are basic.

Choose the T300RS GT and add the TH8S for the lower-cost option or the more substantial TH8A. Thrustmaster listings showed $79.99 for the TH8S and $199.99 for the TH8A; the TH8A was listed out of stock in the referenced U.S. catalog. Verify current availability at TH8S, TH8A and the Gran Turismo catalog.
A three-pedal wheel does not require an H-pattern shifter. If you mainly drive modern GT3 or racing cars, paddles may be all you need.

Best direct-drive value: Thrustmaster T598
The T598 is the product that changes the value calculation in 2026. It is a PlayStation/PC direct-drive package with a manufacturer-rated 5 Nm constant torque, claimed +100% overshoot capability, detachable 30 cm rim, Race Dash display and two-pedal Raceline Pedals LTE set. The cited U.S. special price was $499.99 versus $599.99 regular.
Direct drive removes belts and gears between motor and shaft, generally delivering clearer small-force detail, quicker response and stronger sustained force. Those are hardware characteristics, not a guarantee of faster laps. The T598’s two pedals are its key compromise for manual-shifter buyers; Thrustmaster lists a separate third-pedal upgrade path. It also deserves a rigid wheel stand or cockpit rather than a flimsy desk clamp. See the official T598 listing.
Premium sweet spot: Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro 8 Nm
The DD Pro is an official Gran Turismo/PlayStation bundle containing the direct-drive base, GT wheel, pedals and table clamp. The 5 Nm version was listed at $799.99 and the 8 Nm version at $919.99. If the price gap is modest, the 8 Nm bundle is easier to justify as a long-term platform. Product pages: 5 Nm and 8 Nm.
Remember that the advertised bundle is not your final budget if you add a Fanatec shifter, load-cell pedals, cockpit and seat. Its advantage is a complete, officially licensed starting point with substantial upgrade headroom.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.No-compromise option: Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Extreme
The DD Extreme combines a GT-specific 300 mm wheel with the ClubSport DD+ base. The current U.S. listing showed $1,219.99 and an 18 Nm holding-torque figure. That 18 Nm output depends on firmware V1.4.2.3 or later; Fanatec says a May 2026 update raised it from 15 Nm. The package researched here does not include pedals, so it is not a ready-to-race total at the headline price. It also needs a rigid cockpit or strong wheel stand.

- Wheel rim officially licensed by Gran Turismo and Sony, designed in collaboration with Polyphony Digital
- Features the next-gen Quick Release, natively compatible with the T818 and T598 Direct Drive racing wheel bases
- Round wheel rim (11 inches / 28 cm in diameter) wrapped in fine, smooth-textured leather
- 4 rotary encoders with push-button functionality for a total of 12 controls
- 1 D-pad, 2 mini-sticks, 4 tact-switch action buttons
Its PlayStation compatibility comes from the licensed base, not from the GT Extreme rim alone. FullForce support is available in GT7 and other supported titles. See the official DD Extreme page.

Choose by budget and room
- Under $300: buy a G29 (or G923 if the price difference is small); avoid non-force-feedback wheels.
- Around $350–$450: the T300RS GT is usually the better experience; the T248 is attractive when clearly cheaper.
- Around $500: choose the T598 for direct drive, or the T300RS GT if three pedals and an H-pattern plan matter more.
- $800–$1,000: choose the DD Pro 8 Nm for a premium complete GT7 bundle.
- Over $1,200: choose the DD Extreme only with space, rigid mounting and budget for separate pedals.
- Desk user: gear or belt drive is easier to live with; direct drive can flex or move a weak desk.
- Dedicated cockpit: direct drive becomes much easier to justify.
What else the real setup costs
Mounting
A desk clamp is convenient, a folding stand is a middle ground, and a full cockpit with seat is the most stable. A $500 wheel on a rigid stand can feel better than a $900 wheel on a flexing table. Direct-drive torque should be mounted securely and used initially at moderate strength.
Pedals
Two pedals are adequate for paddle shifting. Three are required for a traditional clutch-and-H-pattern arrangement. Load-cell brakes measure applied force rather than only travel and can improve consistency, but they require a rigid mount and additional budget. The T598 starts with two pedals; the DD Extreme package listed here starts with none.
Firmware and console setup
Modern wheels may need a PC firmware update, correct PlayStation mode, current drivers or configuration software, and in-game button mapping. Fanatec specifically requires current Fanatec App support for certain PC functions and the stated firmware version for the DD Extreme’s 18 Nm output. Compatibility is component-specific: a rim alone does not make an incompatible base work on PlayStation.
Final verdict
Buy the G29 when it is clearly cheaper. Buy the G923 only when its TRUEFORCE premium is modest. Buy the T300RS GT for the best smooth, complete belt-driven experience and the easiest three-pedal manual path. Buy the T598 if you can spend about $500 and want direct drive immediately. Buy the DD Pro 8 Nm for the best premium complete GT7 bundle. Buy the DD Extreme only as an enthusiast platform, with separate pedals and serious mounting included in the budget.
