Descript is a better fit when you want transcript-led editing as well as clips; Riverside suits creators who record and repurpose podcasts or interviews in one service. CapCut is worth checking for social-first editing, but the available official information here does not establish its long-video clipping features across devices and regions. Choose by workflow, then review every generated clip before publishing.
How to choose a video clipping tool
Start with your source footage and how much editorial control you need—not a promise that a tool will find the perfect moment automatically. Compare whether you can import your existing video, select or adjust candidate clips, reframe the picture, edit captions, and publish to the platforms you use. Also check plan limits, export restrictions, and current availability on your device and in your region.
- For automated clip creation: look first at OpusClip, whose product is explicitly positioned around turning long videos into short clips.
- For editing by transcript: consider Descript if you want clip creation alongside transcript and timeline editing.
- For recording and repurposing together: consider Riverside if you already record interviews or podcasts in that workflow.
- For social-first editing: check CapCut’s current product details on your platform before relying on it for long-video clip extraction.
The official product pages below describe features and plans, not an independent head-to-head test. They do not establish which tool produces the best clips, captions, editing speed, or audience results.

The official pricing page displays a free tier at $0 with 60 credits per month. It also lists watermarked output and says clips stop being exportable after three days. Starter is displayed at $15 billed monthly; Pro is displayed at $29 monthly or $174 billed annually. The page lists plan-specific allowances and features, so check its current terms before deciding whether the free tier or a paid plan covers your actual volume and workflow: OpusClip pricing.
OpusClip lists animated captions in more than 20 languages and automatic posting to YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels on its pricing page. Higher tiers add import sources and social workflow options. Confirm the exact feature gate for your plan rather than assuming every import or publishing destination is included at every level.

When OpusClip makes sense
- You regularly repurpose long footage and want software to surface candidate moments.
- You want clip-specific features such as reframing and animated captions in the same workflow.
- You have checked that your source, export needs, and intended publishing destinations are supported by the tier you plan to use.
What to verify before relying on it
- Whether your monthly credit allowance covers the amount of footage you plan to process.
- How long generated clips remain exportable on your plan, especially if you use the free tier.
- Which import sources, editing controls, and social publishing options your plan includes.
2. Descript: clips within a transcript-led editing workflow
Descript lists Create Clips among its AI tools, alongside text and timeline editing and speech cleanup. This makes it a reasonable fit when clip creation is one part of a broader editing process—for example, when you want to work with a transcript as well as the video timeline. The feature listing establishes that Create Clips is available among its tools; it does not establish that its clip selection is better than a specialist alternative.
The displayed pricing section lists Hobbyist at $16 per person per month with 10 media hours and 400 AI credits; Creator at $24 per person per month with 30 media hours and 800 AI credits; and Business at $50 per person per month with 40 media hours and 1,500 AI credits. The Creator listing includes 4K watermark-free export. Because the page displays paired price figures, verify the billing period and checkout terms before treating an amount as the rate you will pay. Check the current feature and plan details at Descript video editing and pricing.

3. Riverside: recording and repurposing in one place
Riverside lists Magic Clips and an AI editing and repurposing agent alongside recording, transcription, hosting, and publishing features. That combination makes it a natural candidate for podcast and interview creators who may benefit from recording and repurposing in the same service. If you only need to clip footage recorded elsewhere, compare its import and editing workflow with a dedicated clipping tool before choosing it.
The plans page also lists separate track-download allowances. Plan prices appear in a dynamically rendered layout, so check Riverside’s current plans and pricing for live rates and the limits that apply to your account.

4. CapCut: check current clipping support on your device
CapCut may suit creators whose editing is social-first, but the official page reviewed for this comparison is about its affiliate program, not a full feature comparison. It references CapCut Pro creative features such as AI effects, AutoCut, and smart captions for accepted affiliates. That information does not establish which long-video clip-extraction functions are available on each platform, plan, or regional version.
Before building a workflow around CapCut, check its current product information on the device and in the region where you plan to use it. The reviewed CapCut affiliate-program page is not sufficient evidence for a detailed comparison of its clipping capabilities.

Review clips before publishing
Automated clipping can help surface and format possible moments, but the result still needs an editorial pass. A short clip can lose the context that made a longer segment understandable, and automatic captions or reframing can introduce mistakes. No feature listing guarantees a particular level of clip quality or audience response.
- Check the context. Watch the clip with enough of the source video around it to confirm the cut preserves the meaning, setup, and payoff.
- Check captions. Correct names, game terms, dialogue, and punctuation; confirm the text is readable and timed to the speech.
- Check framing. Make sure a vertical or other reframed crop keeps the relevant gameplay, speaker, or on-screen detail visible throughout.
- Check the edit. Review the opening and ending for abrupt cuts, missing words, awkward pauses, or visual jumps.
- Check rights and publishing requirements. Confirm that you have the rights needed for the footage, music, and other material in the clip, and that your edit and destination comply with the relevant platform rules.
Which tool should you choose?
- Choose OpusClip first if your main job is turning existing long videos into short-form candidates with automated clipping and clip-oriented controls.
- Choose Descript if clip creation belongs inside a transcript-led editing workflow and its current media-hour and credit limits fit your work.
- Choose Riverside if you want recording and podcast or interview repurposing features together.
- Investigate CapCut on your device if social-first editing is the priority, but verify long-video clipping support rather than assuming it from the reviewed affiliate page.
These are workflow recommendations, not a ranking based on comparative tests. The reviewed official pages do not provide independent evidence that one service produces better clips or results than another.
For creators who want to keep a video live, not make clips
Clipping software and always-on streaming solve different problems. If your goal is to turn a recording into short edits, use the tools above. If instead you want an uploaded video or playlist to run as a continuous YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service from Yorker Media: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it is not a clip editor and does not go live from a camera.
- Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on for the stream to keep running.
- Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required (one free day per account); short and long billing options are available, and you can cancel any time.
- Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
