Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You can often play a demanding game without replacing your graphics card: first reduce its local rendering workload, then consider cloud gaming if the game is supported and your connection is suitable. If you already have access to another capable gaming PC, Steam Remote Play can stream from it. The right choice depends on the exact game, your hardware and network, and how much image quality, input delay, and recurring cost you will accept.
Start by reducing the work your graphics card has to do
If you want to keep playing on your current PC, try the game’s graphics options before changing hardware. Begin with a lower preset, then reduce especially demanding features such as ray tracing if the game offers them. Lowering render resolution can also reduce the amount of work required from the GPU, though the image may look less sharp.
If the game supports an upscaler such as AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), enable it and compare the result with native rendering. FSR reconstructs a higher-resolution image from lower-resolution frames; whether it is available and how it looks depends on the game and hardware. It does not make every graphics card faster in every situation. AMD’s FSR overview describes the technology.
Change one setting at a time and check both frame-rate stability and image quality. If lowering graphics settings does not help enough, the graphics card may not be the only performance limit; these adjustments cannot guarantee a particular result without knowing the game and PC.

Compare the options against your game and setup
| Option | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Lower settings or use an in-game upscaler | You want to keep playing locally, and the game offers useful settings or supported upscaling. | Results vary by game and hardware; reduced resolution or settings can affect image quality. |
| GeForce NOW or another cloud gaming service | Your local graphics hardware falls short, and the exact game is available on a suitable service. | Requires service access and a suitable connection. Game support, devices, plans, performance tiers, and ownership requirements vary. |
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | You want to play supported Xbox cloud games on a compatible device. | Catalog and availability vary by region, plan, and platform; performance depends on the connection, location, and device. |
| Steam Remote Play | You can use another capable gaming PC as the host. | The host PC runs the game. Streaming does not help if that computer is also underpowered. |
Before subscribing or changing your setup, compare the exact title and account or store requirements, service and device availability in your region, connection quality, performance tier, and total cost—including whether you must own the game separately. Also consider how sensitive you are to input delay and whether you already have a capable host PC.
Use cloud gaming when local rendering is the obstacle
Cloud gaming runs a supported game on a remote system and sends the resulting video and audio to your device. Your PC does not need to render the game, but it still needs to receive, decode, and display the stream. A cloud service does not automatically include every game you own: confirm the exact title, store or account, region, device, and plan before paying.

Check GeForce NOW’s connection guidance
NVIDIA’s current GeForce NOW requirements specify 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 FPS and 45 Mbps for 4K at 120 FPS, with latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center. NVIDIA recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. These are provider requirements and guidance, not a promise of smooth play; bandwidth alone does not establish latency or connection stability. See NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW system requirements and check the current game catalog and plan details before choosing a tier.
Check Xbox Cloud Gaming’s device and catalog fit
Xbox says cloud play performs best with a 20 Mbps connection on PCs, consoles, and tablets. It also cautions that streaming performance is affected by internet connection, user location, device, and other factors. Catalog and availability vary by region, plan, and platform, so verify that the game you want is included or otherwise accessible on your setup. Details are in the Xbox Cloud Gaming FAQ.

Compare services by access, not just stream quality
Service catalogs, supported devices, regions, plans, and game-access models can change. Check current terms for any session or usage limits, the performance tier you would receive, and whether access requires a separate game purchase. NVIDIA reported more than 2,200 additional Steam titles and over 4,500 combined Ready-to-Play and Install-to-Play titles in its 2026 GeForce NOW Blackwell announcement; those are NVIDIA’s company-reported catalog figures, not an independent count, and the catalog can change. Read NVIDIA’s announcement.
Use Steam Remote Play if another capable PC can host
Steam Remote Play streams video and audio from a host PC to a client device. The host performs the game processing, so this is useful when you have a capable gaming computer elsewhere—for example, streaming to another device at home. It does not transfer the rendering workload away from an underpowered host. See Steam Remote Play for supported features and setup information.

Choose based on the bottleneck you can actually change
- Local settings first: Try a lower preset, reduced render resolution, and supported upscaling if you want to avoid a subscription and the game remains playable on your PC.
- Cloud service next: Consider it when local rendering is inadequate, the exact game is supported, and the connection and service terms work for you.
- Remote Play when there is a host: Use it when another capable gaming PC is available; the client device does not need to render the game, but the host does.
A controller can be helpful for TV or couch play, but check device and game compatibility first. NVIDIA requires a supported gamepad for GeForce NOW TV play. Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi may be worthwhile only if your existing connection or equipment needs improvement.
