The best Wii dance game depends on how you want to move: choose Just Dance for an easy-to-join party, DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party for dance-pad footwork, or Zumba Fitness for instructor-led routines. These games use different hardware, so check the controller requirements before buying a disc.
Quick picks: choose by play style
| Best fit | Game | How you play | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-round party dancing | Just Dance (Wii) | Copy an on-screen dancer while holding a Wii Remote; up to four players, with one Remote each, according to Nintendo UK. | Access to one Wii Remote per player. The cited play description does not require a dance mat. |
| Dance-pad footwork | DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party | Follow arrow timing; Nintendo Japan lists a dedicated DDR controller as compatible. | Confirm the pad model, game region, and package contents against the Japanese compatibility information. |
| Instructor-led fitness routines | Zumba Fitness | Learn steps and follow routines; Nintendo UK describes an included belt that holds a Wii Remote at the waist. | Ask whether the belt is included with the specific used copy. |
| Artist-specific choreography | Michael Jackson The Experience | Choreographed routines based on Michael Jackson songs, plus a training mode. | Best suited to players who want that artist’s music. |
| Musical-theater songs | Dance On Broadway | Party dancing for up to four players, with lyrics shown on screen. | A niche soundtrack choice rather than a general pop catalog. |
Motion controls or a dance pad?
Wii Remote follow-along games
Just Dance asks players to hold a Wii Remote and imitate the dancer on screen. Its original Wii release supports up to four players when each has a Remote. Zumba Fitness also uses a Wii Remote, held at the waist in the belt described by Nintendo. Neither cited product description calls for a dance mat.

Pad-based footwork
DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party is the pick when stepping on arrows is the point. Nintendo Japan’s page for its Japanese version lists the dedicated DanceDanceRevolution controller as compatible, along with Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller, and GameCube controller support. It describes timing arrow steps and shaking the Remote or Nunchuk as markers arrive. Do not assume every regional package includes a pad or supports the same accessory: verify the game’s region and the exact pad before purchasing.
Which Wii dance game fits your group?
Just Dance: the easiest party starting point
Nintendo UK lists the Wii release date as 27 November 2009 and describes more than 30 tracks. Players choose a song, hold a Wii Remote, and copy the on-screen dancer to score points. This is a follow-along format rather than a dance-pad chart, making it a straightforward choice for a group that wants to start dancing without buying a mat. The number of players is capped at four, with one Remote per player, per Nintendo UK’s product page.

- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Just Dance 2: compare the specific songs and modes
Nintendo UK dates Just Dance 2 to 15 October 2010 and describes a larger song selection, new co-op and competitive modes, and an improved detection system compared with the original. That makes it worth comparing if its soundtrack and modes appeal to your group; the product description does not establish that it is universally better. Check Nintendo UK’s listing alongside the original before deciding.
Zumba Fitness: routines with a learning option
Nintendo UK lists Zumba Fitness for Wii as released on 4 March 2011. It describes nine dance styles, including Hip-Hop, Salsa, Mambo, and Reggaeton, and more than 30 routines. The game offers a “Learn the Steps” option as well as more advanced routines, plus cooperative and competitive modes for up to four players. Nintendo says the included belt holds a Wii Remote at the waist; because a second-hand listing may not include every original item, confirm the belt is present if you want to play that way. These are product features, not evidence of a particular calorie burn or health outcome. See Nintendo UK’s product description.

Michael Jackson The Experience: choreography and training
Choose Michael Jackson The Experience if you want choreographed routines built around Michael Jackson songs. Nintendo UK describes a training mode for difficult moves and play for up to four people. Its appeal is the artist-specific catalog, rather than a broad mix of pop tracks. Details are on Nintendo UK’s product page.
Dance On Broadway: dance and sing along
Dance On Broadway is aimed at musical-theater fans. Nintendo UK describes a Wii party dance game for up to four people, with lyrics displayed on screen so players can sing while dancing. See Nintendo UK’s listing.

What to check before buying a used Wii dance game
- Confirm the region and version. Make sure the listing is for the Wii release you intend to use. The cited DDR accessory details are for the Japanese version; do not apply them automatically to another regional package.
- Check disc condition and package contents. Product pages describe original features, not the condition or contents of a seller’s used copy. Ask for clear details about the disc and included accessories.
- Match the game to its controller. For Just Dance, plan on Wii Remotes—one per player for the described four-player setup. For DDR pad play, verify a compatible dance controller. For Zumba Fitness, confirm the belt is included if you want the waist-mounted Remote setup.
- Do not buy a mat by default. The cited Just Dance and Zumba Fitness descriptions use a Wii Remote; the dedicated pad is relevant to DDR-style footwork.
- Treat online features cautiously. Older product descriptions do not establish that online services or features remain available today.
How the Wii fits into Just Dance today
Ubisoft’s 19 November 2024 anniversary article identifies Just Dance 2020 as the final Wii release. The same article reports more than 30 games released and more than 90 million copies sold worldwide across the franchise; those are franchise-wide figures, not sales for any one Wii game. Ubisoft’s franchise page separately lists 135+ million players and more than 500 choreographies, also as franchise totals, and does not show a publication date on the retrieved page. The figures measure different things and should not be treated as directly comparable. See Ubisoft’s franchise page and its 15th-anniversary article.
Ubisoft says Just Dance+ is available in-game on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5; that subscription is not a way to add songs to the Wii games. For a Wii purchase, choose among the physical game’s soundtrack and play style rather than expecting newer subscription content. See Ubisoft’s current Just Dance page.
