NYT Games: daily puzzles beyond Wordle
The New York Times Games catalogue describes Connections, Strands, and Spelling Bee as distinct formats, not Wordle clones. Connections asks you to sort words by a shared connection; Strands has you find hidden words and a theme; Spelling Bee asks what words you can form from seven letters. Access is not simply all free or all paid. The NYT Help Center lists Wordle, Connections, Connections: Sports Edition, Crossplay, Pips, Strands, and Sudoku among games available without a Games subscription; Spelling Bee has limited free access. Octordle: more boards, more tracking
Octordle applies each guess to eight five-letter word boards and allows 13 guesses, according to its official game page. That makes it a natural pick if you enjoy Wordle’s letter feedback but want to track several targets at once. It is a different attention demand, not an objectively hardest alternative.
The same page lists Daily, Sequence, Rescue, archive, and unlimited modes. It says the daily puzzle starts at midnight UTC and uses the same eight words for all players that day. It also says you can start without an account; progress and streaks are saved in the local browser, and the game runs in a modern browser. These are product details that may change.

Waffle replaces successive guessing with a grid of crossing words that you solve by swapping letters. PC Gamer describes it as a daily puzzle with six crossing words and a limited number of swaps; consult the game’s current instructions for the move rules in effect.
Semantle: follow meaning, not spelling
Semantle’s central distinction is semantic deduction: guesses are evaluated by their relationship in meaning to the hidden word, rather than by whether their letters match. Worldle: identify a place
Worldle turns the daily puzzle into geography, asking you to identify a country or territory from clues. It keeps the compact guessing format but changes the knowledge and deduction involved. Its exact clue sequence and schedule should be confirmed on the game’s page.
Quordle: four simultaneous words
Quordle keeps Wordle-style letter feedback while asking you to solve four five-letter words simultaneously. PC Gamer reports nine guesses, but that exact limit is secondary-source information and may change; check the game itself for current rules before relying on it.

- Keep daily play short and familiar: stay with Wordle or try another single-target daily format, such as Worldle.
