For repeatable XP, Scraptrap Nest in The Compactor is the leading option in the reviewed guide if you own Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot. It is an enemy-loop farm, not a conventional boss fight. Without that DLC—or if you specifically want a boss to kill—farm Graveward at The Floating Tomb on Eden-6. Slaughter Shaft is another base-game choice when you want waves of enemies and loot along with XP.
Which Borderlands 3 XP farm should you choose?
| Farm | Access | Repeat loop | Best suited to | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scraptrap Nest | Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC; The Compactor | Clear the Scraptraps but leave Scraptrap Prime alive. Step outside the arena boundary briefly, then return to refresh the enemies. | Repeatable XP when you own the DLC | Requires the add-on and access to the area. The guide ranks it fastest for pure XP qualitatively; it does not provide measured XP-per-hour results. |
| Graveward | Base game; The Floating Tomb on Eden-6 | Kill Graveward, collect what you want, save and quit, then reload and repeat. | A conventional boss farm, especially without DLC or when pursuing boss and world-drop loot | Each cycle includes a reload. The guide says Scraptrap is generally faster for pure XP. |
| Slaughter Shaft | Base game; Konrad’s Hold on Pandora | Start the activity, clear all waves, turn it in, and repeat. | Combining XP with waves of enemies and gear drops | It is a wave-based activity, not a single boss farm, and the guide describes it as slower than Scraptrap for pure XP. |
The qualitative comparison comes from PlayBorderlands’ Borderlands 3 XP Farming Guide. It is a guide’s ranking, not a controlled timing study, so there is no established universal XP-per-hour winner.

How to farm Scraptrap Nest
- Travel to The Compactor in Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot.
- Enter the Scraptrap Nest and defeat the Scraptraps, but keep Scraptrap Prime alive.
- Move outside the arena boundary and wait a few seconds.
- Return to the arena and repeat the clear.
This reset avoids saving and quitting between rounds. The reviewed guide presents it as the fastest of these routes for pure XP, but supplies no timed XP measurements.
How to farm Graveward without DLC
- Go to The Floating Tomb on Eden-6 and fight Graveward.
- Defeat it and collect any loot you want.
- Save and quit, then reload the character.
- Return to Graveward and repeat.
Graveward is the straightforward choice if you want a conventional boss loop in the base game. It also makes sense when boss or world-drop loot is part of the goal, rather than XP alone.

When Slaughter Shaft is a better fit
Slaughter Shaft trades a single boss encounter for a sustained sequence of enemy waves. Start the repeatable activity in Konrad’s Hold, clear the waves, turn it in, and run it again. Choose it if the combat and loot haul matter alongside leveling; for pure XP, the reviewed guide places it behind Scraptrap Nest.
How Mayhem affects XP farming
Mayhem Mode unlocks after completing the main story. Gearbox’s Mayhem Mode 2.0 announcement says it increases XP from enemy kills and the quality of enemy drops; it also explains that enemy health, shields, and armor rise at higher Mayhem levels. Borderlands Support’s FAQ, updated July 2, 2026, describes Mayhem as offering additional XP and better loot in exchange for random challenges.

- YOUR VAULT HUNTER, YOUR PLAYSTYLE: Become one of four extraordinary Vault Hunters, each with unique abilities, playstyles, deep skill trees, and tons of personalization options.
- LOCK, LOAD, AND LOOT: With bazillions of guns and gadgets, every fight is an opportunity to score new gear. Firearms with self-propelling bullet shields? Check. Guns that grow legs and chase down enemies while hurling verbal insults? Yeah, got that too.
- A MAYHEM-FUELED THRILL RIDE: Discover new worlds beyond Pandora, each featuring unique environments to explore and enemies to destroy. Tear through hostile deserts, battle your way across war-torn cityscapes, navigate deadly bayous, and more!
- QUICK & SEAMLESS CO-OP ACTION: Play with a friend in online co-op, regardless of your level or mission progress. Take down enemies and challenges as a team, but reap rewards that are yours alone—no one misses out on loot.
- Includes: Borderlands 3 base game, Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock, Bounty of Blood, Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, Designer's Cut, Director's Cut, and 30+ cosmetic items.
Use the highest Mayhem level at which your build can still kill enemies efficiently and survive. Higher difficulty can raise the reward per kill, but the available sources do not establish an optimal Mayhem setting for XP per hour. No comparable measured rates are available for these farms, so a precise time-to-level or XP-per-hour figure would be unsupported.

Other leveling considerations
- While progressing through missions: Optional objectives provide an additional reward on mission completion, with the amount varying by mission, according to the official FAQ. This is useful during a story playthrough, but it is not established as a repeatable farm comparable to the routes above.
- In co-op: In Co-operation mode, the official FAQ says enemies and loot scale to each player’s level, and loot is instanced per player. The sources do not quantify how this changes XP-farming speed.
- XP booster: The reviewed guide mentions the Borderlands Science XP booster, but the cited passage does not establish a percentage or duration. Don’t assume a specific bonus from that reference alone.
