The studio’s main development focus is The Elder Scrolls VI. In the meantime, Bethesda has confirmed several other Fallout projects, including undated remasters, an undisclosed Obsidian collaboration, and a Fallout 76 expansion planned for 2027.
What Bethesda confirmed about Fallout 5
Bethesda Game Studios said on July 17, 2026, that Fallout 5 is “currently in preproduction” and remains its “long-range destination.” It gave no release date or release window. Preproduction identifies the stated development stage; it does not establish when the game will launch.
The studio also said The Elder Scrolls VI is its primary development focus, with most of its team working on that game. That helps explain why Bethesda describes Fallout 5 as a long-range project, but it does not provide a schedule for either title. Bethesda’s July 2026 studio update is the source for these statements.
Every Fallout project Bethesda described
| Project | What Bethesda has said | Timing disclosed |
|---|---|---|
| Fallout 5 | In preproduction; described as a long-range goal. | No release date or window. |
| Fallout 3 remaster | In development. | No release date or window. |
| Fallout: New Vegas remaster | In development. | No release date or window. |
| New Obsidian project | Bethesda confirmed Obsidian Entertainment is working with it on a new Fallout project. The title, setting, format, platforms and other details have not been disclosed. | No release date or window. |
| Fallout 76: Raven Rock | A major expansion and prequel story to Fallout 3, with the story heading toward the Capital Wasteland. | Planned for 2027. |
The projects are not equally far along based on the information Bethesda has made public. Raven Rock has a planned year and a place on the live-game roadmap; Fallout 5 has a stated stage but no timing; the remasters are in development without dates; and the Obsidian project has been confirmed without identifying details. Bethesda can change plans, so the 2027 schedule should be treated as a roadmap rather than a guaranteed launch date.
