In Black Myth: Wukong, the best armor depends on how you fight: compare a set’s bonuses and upgrade cost with its defense, then decide whether its effects fit your combat loop. Armor has four slots—head, body, arms, and legs—and matching pieces activate set bonuses. Curios are separate accessories that can further tune attributes, resistances, or combat behavior.
How armor and gear work
Armor is equipped across four slots: head, body, arms, and legs. A set can grant bonuses at different matching-piece thresholds, so a partial set may be useful even before you have all four pieces. Compare those effects with each piece’s defense and upgrade potential rather than choosing on defense alone.

Curios are a separate equipment category. They occupy accessory slots and provide effects such as attribute increases or resistances. Their value depends on both the effect and what you give up by using that slot for another Curio.
How to get armor sets
Armor crafting becomes available at the Guanyin Temple Shrine in the Forest of Wolves during Chapter 1. Crafting uses Will and materials; additional recipes become available through chapter progress, bosses, and quests. Sets therefore do not all come from the same source: some are crafted, while others are tied to progression or specific rewards.

When deciding whether to pursue a set, consider when it becomes available and what its pieces cost to craft or upgrade. A powerful bonus may be less useful if you cannot complete its required piece threshold yet.
Example: the Pilgrim’s Set
The Pilgrim’s Set is an early mobility-focused option. It becomes available upon reaching the Guanyin Temple Shrine in Chapter 1. Its set effects reward movement and sprinting:

- Unique effect: Swift Pilgrim allows you to use your gourd while sprinting.
- Two pieces: moderately increases sprint speed.
- Four pieces: builds attack while sprinting, up to ten stacks; the stacks end when you stop.
This makes the set a natural fit for a combat loop that includes sprinting. If you rarely sprint during fights, its movement-based bonuses may matter less than another set’s effects. The guide lists individual crafting costs in Will and materials, so completing the set requires weighing its bonus against those costs.
How Curios fit into a build
Curios can be found, unlocked through quests, or purchased, and are equipped in the Equipment Menu. They offer another way to tailor a setup without relying on a matching armor set. For example, Cat’s Eye Beads slightly increase critical hit chance. The guide reports that this Chapter 1 Curio is obtained by defeating Wandering Might near the Outside Forest Shrine.

Choose a Curio for the attribute or behavior you want to support, and account for the slot it uses. Like armor, its usefulness depends on your priorities rather than a universal ranking.
Edition bonus gear versus ordinary progression
The Folk Opera Set is listed as Deluxe Edition content: the guide says to purchase the Deluxe Edition and claim Trailblazer’s Gift at a shrine. That is distinct from the ordinary armor-crafting and progression systems, and the set is not required to obtain other armor through in-game progression. A PS5 physical-edition summary describes a voucher for Deluxe Edition content, but current availability is not established.

Choosing armor for your playstyle
- Check the bonus thresholds: identify whether the useful effect begins with two pieces or requires the full four-piece set.
- Match effects to your combat loop: movement-oriented bonuses suit players who sprint; other sets may better support different skills or item use.
- Weigh defense and upgrades: compare the pieces’ defense and upgrade potential with their set effects.
- Factor in progression: recipes, materials, Will, quests, and boss rewards affect when a set is practical to assemble.
- Use Curios to fill a specific need: select an accessory effect that complements your setup, while considering its slot opportunity cost.
There is no single best set for every player: the useful choice depends on the bonuses you can activate, your preferred combat style, and your current progression.
