To beat Stone Vanguard in Chapter 2, bait its slow swings, land only a few attacks, and keep stamina ready for sideways dodges. Retreat when it raises its arms for the delayed ground burst, and stay mobile through the Pitstones sequence instead of trying to attack. Use Immobilize or a heavy Spirit attack after the boss finishes an attack.
Where is Stone Vanguard?
Stone Vanguard is in the Fright Cliff area of Chapter 2, around Rockrest Flat and Rock Clash Platform. From the Rockrest Flat shrine, go left, then left again to reach the broad arena where the boss forms from the ground. How to beat Stone Vanguard
- Bait a swing. Stay close enough to draw out the boss’s slow attacks, but do not linger directly beneath it.
- Attack briefly, then evade. Use a few strikes during an opening and save stamina. Roll sideways before a swing lands; its follow-up can catch you if you stay in range.
- Retreat from the raised-arm slam. When Stone Vanguard lifts its arms, back away. The ground burst is delayed, so wait until it has fully ended before moving back in.
- Keep moving through Pitstones. When the boss summons Pitstones, dodge the small rocks and their follow-up leap. Treat the entire sequence as a hazard, not an opening to deal damage.
- Spend control and heavy attacks after recovery. Immobilize or a heavy Spirit attack can punish the boss once it has completed an attack. A transformation may offer extra safety, but do not count on burn damage to carry the fight.
The main danger is mistiming your return: Stone Vanguard moves slowly, but its delayed ground effects and broad attacks punish greedy combos. What does Stone Vanguard reward?
Defeating Stone Vanguard rewards Sterness of Stone, Mind Core, and Silk. Before leaving Fright Cliff, confirm you have accounted for Sterness of Stone: it is relevant to later mechanisms. The community-maintained reference page also lists the reward details.
