This Black Myth: Wukong walkthrough maps the six-chapter journey, explains how to follow shrine routes, and highlights optional bosses, secret areas, quest returns, and cleanup goals. Spoilers are marked by chapter; later sections reveal story progression and endgame content.
Before you start: routes, shrines, and spoilers
Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology, developed and published by Game Science. It launched on Windows PC and PlayStation 5 on August 20, 2024, and on Xbox Series X|S on August 20, 2025. The game has six chapters, with optional secret bosses and side quests. Your main navigation landmarks are Keeper’s Shrines: activate each one you find, use its route list to resume at a known checkpoint, and check nearby branches before advancing past a major boss or chapter transition.
Use the chapter headings as spoiler levels. The route notes identify where optional content belongs, but they avoid asserting that an activity is permanently missable unless its timing is clear. If you are pursuing a complete run, treat every new region as a checklist: explore side paths, speak to encountered quest givers again after major progress, and revisit previously opened routes when a quest or item points you back.

Chapter 1: Black Wind Mountain
Spoilers: early-game locations and optional encounters. Follow the shrine-to-shrine route through Black Wind Mountain, checking side paths and elevated or tucked-away spaces before leaving an area. The first chapter introduces the rhythm that works throughout the game: activate a shrine, scout nearby branches, challenge the boss that blocks the route, then revisit the local paths if a new ability or clue makes exploration easier.
Early bosses and secret-area checks
Do not treat every boss as mandatory. Explore beyond the obvious path for optional encounters, and investigate clues or unusual landmarks that suggest a secret area. Before moving on from the mountain, check that you have explored the chapter’s side routes and completed any local interaction you have started; secret bosses and side quests are among the content that can be overlooked by a direct main-route run.
Upgrade priorities
Use early upgrade opportunities to reinforce the tools you actually rely on rather than spreading resources across every option. Try available spells and combat approaches against ordinary enemies, then invest in the choices that help you create safe openings against bosses. If an encounter feels punishing, return to a shrine and adjust your setup before repeating it.

Chapter 2: Yellow Wind Ridge
Spoilers: regional progression and secret content. Work through Yellow Wind Ridge by following its shrine network, but take time to inspect side routes before completing the region’s major progression beats. This chapter has side quests and hidden areas worth checking while you are already in the region; use NPC dialogue, unusual landmarks, and newly opened paths as prompts to search rather than assuming the marked route is the whole chapter.
Prepare for Yellow Wind Sage
Before confronting Yellow Wind Sage, activate nearby shrines and spend any available upgrades that improve your preferred approach. Enter with healing and combat tools ready, and study the boss’s recovery moments after its larger attacks rather than trying to trade blows. If you are repeatedly caught while attacking, shorten your punish attempts: take a small opening, reset your position, and wait for the next clear recovery window.
Chapter 3: Snowfield, Pagoda Realm, and beyond
Spoilers: named locations and quest timing. Chapter 3 spans the Snowfield, Pagoda Realm, Bitter Lake, Valley of Ecstasy, and New Thunderclap Temple. Use the shrines in each area as anchors and explore each new route before pressing through its apparent exit. The chapter’s breadth makes it especially useful to keep a simple note of unexplored branches and NPC requests so you can distinguish a route you have not searched from one you must revisit.

Pagoda Realm and return timing
Pay attention to prisoner-related and treasure content in and around the Pagoda Realm. If a character or clue points toward a later return, record the location and come back when progression opens the relevant route or interaction. Do not assume that reaching the next named region means every previous quest is resolved; check quest-related characters and paths again after substantial chapter progress.
Route through Bitter Lake, Valley of Ecstasy, and New Thunderclap Temple
At Bitter Lake and the Valley of Ecstasy, take side paths between shrine checkpoints before following the clearest forward route. In New Thunderclap Temple, explore the temple grounds and branches rather than rushing directly toward the next boss. As in earlier chapters, activate each shrine first so a failed boss attempt does not erase the practical value of your exploration.
Chapter 4: follow quest triggers before moving on
Spoilers: chapter progression and secret-area checks. Chapter 4 combines its main route with secret-area and quest triggers. Search side branches as you move between shrines, and follow up on local quest clues before advancing the chapter’s major story beats. A point of no return should only be treated as confirmed when the game makes the transition explicit; this route guide does not label an unverified trigger as a permanent miss.

Secret areas and quests
When a new interaction, object, or NPC suggests a condition you have not met, note it and continue exploring the region for related clues. Before the chapter-end transition, revisit any unresolved local request and check whether a newly defeated boss or opened route changed the available interactions. This is the safest way to protect optional content without assuming every branch is permanently missable.

Keep the same shrine-first approach through Chapter 5, and inspect routes tied to elemental or cart-related activity instead of treating them as decorative scenery. Optional content can require several steps or encounters, so follow the trail of clues and return to prior locations when a later development appears to affect them.

Before taking the final route forward, spend available upgrades, activate the nearest shrine, and review any optional encounter or quest line you have begun. The chapter’s end is a sensible checkpoint for a local cleanup pass: unresolved activities are easier to identify while their region and characters are fresh in mind.

Chapter 6: Mount Huaguo and the final encounters
Major spoilers: late-game area and endgame preparation. Chapter 6 takes you through Mount Huaguo and its late-game bosses. Continue to activate shrines as you advance; the checkpoint route is especially valuable when a demanding encounter requires repeated attempts or a change in build.
Conserve resources and prepare for the finale
Do not spend every consumable or upgrade resource simply because the final stretch has begun. Keep your preferred healing and combat options ready, and use shrine visits to refine your setup between attempts. Against late-game bosses, focus on learning attack patterns and taking controlled punish windows after recovery animations; long attacks during uncertain openings often leave you exposed.
After the final encounters, use any available return-to-area or continued-play option to check unfinished exploration and collection goals. Do not treat story completion by itself as proof that every optional secret, quest, or collectible has been completed.
Completionist cleanup: what to check
For a thorough run, review the collection and exploration categories tracked by the game and compare them against a chapter-organized checklist. Guides for the game commonly separate bosses, spirits, transformations, spells, meditation spots, curios, gourds, secret areas, and chapter quests; weapons, armor, and medicines are additional categories to audit as you work toward broader completion.
- Bosses and secrets: revisit chapter routes for optional bosses and secret areas you skipped on a direct story run.
- Quests: check unresolved NPC requests, including content that called for a return to a prior area.
- Abilities and collections: review spirits, transformations, spells, curios, and gourds.
- Exploration and equipment: check meditation spots, weapons, armor, and medicines, and revisit any route with an unexplored branch.
- Achievements and ending goals: inspect your platform’s achievement or trophy list for remaining objectives, and verify the conditions for any ending-specific goal rather than assuming a standard clear satisfies it.
