Its thermoelectric (Peltier) module, heatsink and fan delivered large temperature reductions in independent tests, making it worthwhile for long, demanding sessions if you find legitimate old stock at a substantial discount. Noise, USB-C power, case fit and condensation make it a poor choice for casual players or anyone expecting a maintenance-free current-generation accessory.
What the FunCooler 3 Pro actually is
The FunCooler 3 Pro (model BR31) is a clip-on semiconductor phone cooler. A thermoelectric/Peltier plate pulls heat from the phone’s rear surface; a copper contact area transfers that heat into a heatsink, and a high-speed fan exhausts it. RGB lighting and Bluetooth controls are included, but this is not a battery-powered cooler: it must remain connected to USB-C power. The supplied cable powers the cooler and does not fast-charge the phone (Black Shark manual).
That thermal design is fundamentally different from a simple fan blowing room air over the handset. It has greater cooling potential, but it also creates the possibility of a contact surface becoming colder than the surrounding air and forming moisture.
Cooling performance: strong potential, variable results
What Black Shark claims
Black Shark literature and product coverage describe a reduction of up to approximately 30°C. That is a maximum, controlled-condition claim attributed to the manufacturer, not a temperature drop you should expect in every game or room (Gizmochina; product literature).

What independent tests found
- Gizmochina tested with a Xiaomi 12 Pro using the heat-prone Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. In a 27°C room, the cooler’s coldest measured surface point reached 2.5°C (test report).
- Glimpse ran repeated AnTuTu comparisons against other Black Shark coolers and found the FunCooler 3 Pro’s maximum mode delivered the strongest cooling among the tested units (comparison).
- K-tai Watch recorded a phone-temperature change from 52.7°C to 29.5°C after 36 minutes with the cooler operating (test report).
These are meaningful results, but they measure particular phones, workloads and points on the device. A 2.5°C cooler contact plate does not mean the processor is 2.5°C, or 30°C, cooler. Heat must travel through the rear panel, frame and internal thermal materials before reaching the SoC.
What you should expect in real gaming
Actual results depend on the phone’s chassis and thermal design, cooler placement, case material, ambient temperature and humidity, game workload, charging status and software limits. The most useful benefit is usually sustained performance: lower heat can delay or reduce thermal throttling after 20–60 minutes, rather than making the first few minutes dramatically faster.
A cooler cannot remove a game’s frame-rate cap, fix poor optimization or network lag, overcome a CPU/GPU power limit, or bypass a battery-health charging limit. To judge performance properly, compare the same phone and game build at identical graphics and frame-rate settings, battery level and room temperature, with the cooler off and on. Record sustained FPS or frame-time consistency, CPU/GPU clocks and device temperature over a continuous session instead of relying on one peak reading.
Noise and cooling modes
The trade-off for the 3 Pro’s cooling capacity is fan noise. Glimpse’s comparison placed the minimum mode below the middle mode, while maximum was the loudest 3 Pro setting; maximum cooling was noticeably more intrusive (Glimpse comparison). No controlled decibel figure is established by the available evidence.

- Smart or middle modes: a compromise for ordinary long sessions.
- Maximum: best suited to severe heat or sustained benchmark-style loads, preferably with headphones.
It is powerful, but calling it silent or universally quiet would be misleading.
Setup, power and app controls
- Pull the adjustable side arms apart.
- Place the cooler flat against the phone’s rear, as close as possible to the hottest internal area.
- Check that the arms do not press the volume or power buttons.
- Connect USB-C power to the cooler.
- Use an adapter rated for at least 20 W.
- Turn the cooler on.
- Enable Bluetooth and pair through Game Space/Shark Space on supported Black Shark phones, or the dedicated cooler app on other phones.
- Choose a cooling mode, lighting effect and temperature display if those options are available.
The cooler still operates in its default mode without the app. The manual says it enters Bluetooth-pairing mode after power-on; the green indicator can stop flashing after 30 seconds without a connection while pairing remains available (manual). Software labels can vary by phone, region and version, so Game Space and Shark Space are not guaranteed to appear under exactly the same menu name on every device.
When controls fail
- If it powers on but does not cool, verify the cable, a 20 W-or-higher adapter and flat phone contact.
- If Bluetooth pairing fails, enable Bluetooth, install the relevant Black Shark software and update the phone where applicable. Basic cooling remains usable without pairing.
- If RGB works but cooling does not, remember that lighting and the fan/thermoelectric system are separate functions; check power delivery and contact.

Values above come from the product manual (manual). Measure the phone itself, not its screen size. Thick, textured, raised or heat-insulating cases reduce contact and can make a capable cooler appear ineffective, so remove the case when testing.
Also check the camera bump, rear curvature, side buttons, foldable hinge, shoulder triggers and charging cable. A large camera module may keep the plate from sitting flat. The basic manual does not establish MagSafe or magnetic-plate compatibility; do not assume the 3 Pro works like later magnetic models.

Condensation and operating limits
Because the thermoelectric plate can become colder than humid air, droplets may form. The manual treats condensation as normal under some conditions (manual). If moisture appears near the rear glass, camera openings, ports, buttons or seams, reduce the cooling level or stop immediately. Do not press a wet cooler against the phone. Dry both surfaces and let them return to a moderate, dry temperature before storage.
A mirrored manual lists an operating range of approximately 0°C–35°C and storage range of −20°C–45°C; these are the accessory’s stated limits, not a guarantee that every phone is safe throughout those conditions (manual mirror). Humidity, charging heat and phone sealing all affect risk.
Bulk, cable and everyday ergonomics
This is a substantial clip-on accessory that adds weight and protrusion to the phone and leaves a cable running to a charger or power bank. Glimpse reports 112.6 g, while another manual mirror lists approximately 200 g and dimensions of 84.3 × 59.5 × 43.7 mm (Glimpse; manual mirror). Because those secondary sources conflict, treat the exact weight as unconfirmed for a particular regional package. The practical conclusion is not: this is not a pocket-light, wireless attachment.
Is it still worth buying in 2026?
The FunCooler 3 Pro remains in Black Shark support and product catalogs, but the current global store prominently promotes the newer FunCooler 5 and FunCooler 5Pro (global store; gaming-gear catalog; support catalog). Availability and price for the 3 Pro are therefore uncertain and may depend on old stock or marketplace sellers. One buying guide recorded $49.99 and “In Stock” on May 12, 2026, but that is a dated third-party signal, not an official Black Shark price (listing record).

Buy the 3 Pro when the seller is identifiable, accessories and returns are clear, warranty terms are acceptable and the price is substantially below a newer model. If its asking price approaches a FunCooler 5-series unit, the newer generation is the more sensible starting point. Black Shark’s catalog also lists FunCooler 4/4Pro and MagCooler 3 Pro families; magnetic products require checking the exact phone and any required ring or plate (catalog).

- Your phone becomes hot enough to throttle or lose frame-rate consistency.
- The rear panel is flat and within the 67–88 mm clamp range.
- You can remove the case and provide nearby USB-C power.
- You accept headphones or fan noise at maximum cooling.
- You find a legitimate listing at a clear discount.
Skip it when
- You play short, casual sessions or your phone already stays cool.
- Silence, wireless operation or a slim grip is essential.
- Your phone is outside the width range or has an obstructive camera bump or unusual curvature.
- You need reliable use through a thick case.
- The price is close to a newer FunCooler or magnetic cooler.

Can it improve FPS?
It can delay thermal throttling and stabilize sustained frame rates when heat is the limiting factor. It cannot raise a game’s cap or solve non-thermal CPU, GPU, software or network limits.
Is condensation guaranteed to damage a phone?
