The Black Shark OWS 700 is a China-launched pair of open-ear true-wireless earbuds, announced in March 2024 rather than debuting in 2026. It combines 16.2 mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.3, a claimed 60 ms gaming mode, call-focused ENC, IPX4 splash resistance and up to 24 hours of rated battery life. Its open design may suit mobile gamers and commuters who need to hear their surroundings, but there is no confirmed broad U.S. launch, U.S. warranty or independently verified latency test.
What the Black Shark OWS 700 is
The OWS 700 uses an open-ear layout: its speaker units sit outside the ear canal instead of sealing with silicone tips. That lets external sounds remain audible while the earbuds play game audio, music or calls. Some launch reports call the design “open-back,” but open-ear is the clearer consumer description because these are wireless earbuds rather than over-ear open-back headphones.
Black Shark announced the model in China in March 2024. The reported launch price was 199 yuan, with a 169-yuan introductory price. Those are China launch figures from that period, not a current U.S. retail price.
Reported launch coverage describes touch controls for playback, calls, track and volume functions, voice-assistant access and call rejection, plus a “Shark Sauce Voice Pack” for branded voice prompts.

Why open-ear gaming changes the experience
Awareness and comfort
Because the OWS 700 does not plug the ear canal, you can hear a doorbell, conversation or nearby traffic more readily than with sealed earbuds. That can be useful when gaming at home, working, commuting or taking a call without removing an earbud. People who dislike the pressure or occlusion of in-ear tips may also prefer this format.
What you give up
External sound competes directly with the game. In a bus, busy street or noisy room, bass and fine detail are harder to hear, and an open speaker cannot create the isolation or low-end impact of a sealed gaming earbud or headset. Sound can also leak outward despite Black Shark’s reduced-leakage claims. Open-ear awareness is a listening characteristic, not permission to ignore traffic or use unsafe volume levels.

Fit is individual
The approximately 9 g weight and silicone construction may support long sessions, but launch reports do not establish comfort during extended wear. Pressure on the outer ear, stability while moving, and interference with glasses, masks, helmets or hats depend on the user’s ear shape. Fit can also change perceived bass and loudness. Independent testing did not verify one-earbud operation, fit stability or leakage.

Does the 60 ms gaming mode matter?
Black Shark claims a 60 ms gaming mode. That could be useful for casual mobile play, but it is not the same as a wired connection or a dedicated 2.4 GHz gaming system. Bluetooth delay varies with the phone or computer, operating system, game, codec and connection mode. The mode may also change power use or audio processing.
The figure does not establish microphone delay, connection stability, console synchronization or performance in competitive titles. No independent latency test was identified. The accurate conclusion is that 60 ms is a manufacturer-reported target that needs device-by-device testing, not proof of imperceptible or tournament-grade response.
Compatibility details buyers still need to verify
Launch reports identify Bluetooth 5.3 but do not provide a complete compatibility matrix. They do not establish whether gaming mode is activated by a touch gesture, an app or automatic detection, nor whether the earbuds support multipoint pairing or a named Bluetooth codec.

- Android and iPhone/iPad Bluetooth pairing are plausible, but exact feature support is not documented in the available launch material.
- Windows and Mac pairing should be treated as ordinary Bluetooth use until a manual confirms otherwise.
- Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox support should not be promised. Console Bluetooth restrictions and missing low-latency profiles can affect both audio and chat.
- A companion app, its available settings, language options and any regional restrictions were not verified.
Audio, calls and the voice pack
16.2 mm drivers
A 16.2 mm driver can provide more acoustic output than a tiny driver, which is helpful when an open design must compete with room noise. Driver diameter alone says nothing reliable about frequency balance, distortion, detail or imaging. The reports provide no frequency-response measurements or independent listening test.

ENC is not ANC
ENC normally reduces environmental noise picked up by the microphones so your voice is clearer to the other caller. It does not actively block outside sound for you. Buyers wanting isolation or listener-side noise cancellation should choose a sealed ANC product instead.
Shark Sauce Voice Pack
The Shark Sauce Voice Pack is a gaming-brand presentation feature for reminders and system prompts. The available reports do not confirm whether prompts can be disabled, customized or localized, so those controls should be checked with the seller or manual.
IPX4 and battery claims in practical use
IPX4 means protection against splashing water from any direction. It is not a swimming, showering or heavy-rain rating, and it does not make the charging case dustproof or waterproof. Use “splash-resistant,” not “waterproof.”
The six-hour earbud and 24-hour combined figures are rated maxima. Higher volume, gaming mode, calls, microphone activity, Bluetooth behavior and battery age can reduce runtime. The case’s connector, charge indicator, fast-charge behavior and replacement-battery policy were not established.

Price, availability and import risk
The only clearly reported price is China’s 199-yuan list price and 169-yuan introductory promotion from March 2024. Converting yuan directly into dollars would ignore tax, shipping, reseller markup, import fees and warranty coverage.
There is no reliable evidence of broad official U.S. distribution, a U.S. MSRP, U.S. warranty or official U.S. fulfillment. Black Shark has an official JD.com storefront at blackshark.jd.com, but the inspected information does not confirm an active OWS 700 listing.
An imported unit may involve Chinese-language packaging or prompts, app-region limits, uncertain authenticity, expensive returns and no official replacement case or earbuds. Treat a marketplace listing as an import unless the seller explicitly proves regional support.

Shokz OpenFit 2
Shokz lists the OpenFit 2 at $179.95 on its official U.S. site, with up to 11 hours per earbud, up to 48 hours with the case, IP55 protection, multipoint pairing, microphones, app support, 45-day returns and a two-year warranty. Shokz OpenFit Air
Shokz’s official listings show the OpenFit Air at $119.95. It is a lower-cost open-ear alternative from a specialist brand, although its rated battery life is shorter than OpenFit 2 and it is not gaming-first. See Shokz’s product range and the comparison page.
Shokz OpenComm2
The OpenComm2 targets calls and workplace communication rather than immersive game audio. Shokz lists the 2025-upgrade model at $159.95 without an adapter and $199.95 for the UC version with adapter. Details are at the official OpenComm2 page. It is a better fit when microphone and all-day awareness matter more than music or gaming immersion.
Verdict
The OWS 700 is an interesting low-cost China-market concept: open-ear comfort and awareness paired with a claimed 60 ms gaming mode. Its reported specifications are appealing for casual mobile play, but they do not prove competitive performance, sound quality, comfort, leakage control or console compatibility. For most U.S. buyers, the uncertain distribution and after-sales support make a documented alternative such as Shokz the safer open-ear purchase; choose a 2.4 GHz headset when gaming latency and microphone performance matter most.
