What does Blake want to do before he dies?
Blake wants to finish Ocarina of Time. In a Reddit post, he wrote: “I’m dying, and I plan to make the new OOT the first game I ever fully complete.” GamesRadar+ identified the Reddit user MadCybertist as Blake and interviewed him about the goal.

Blake said he had been diagnosed with ALS and initially given 12 months to live. He also said a medical breakthrough slowed the disease, that he was in his fifth year after diagnosis, and that he estimated he might have about a year left. Why does he want to finish Ocarina of Time?
Blake said he had long been interested in the game, and that this release arrived at the right moment. He described himself as mainly a competitive and MMO player, including 11,000 hours in Dark Age of Camelot and 9,000 in Destiny, but said he had never completed a video game.

In his Reddit post, Blake said declining reaction speed had led him toward single-player games. He described them as relaxing and rich in story. GamesRadar+ also reported that Hades, Celeste, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dredge, and Spiritfarer had recently become favorites; Blake said Spiritfarer made him emotional in light of what he was experiencing.
How gaming connects him with his family
GamesRadar+ reports that Blake plays with his young daughter nearby: she watches and holds a spare controller while he plays. Blake described those moments as especially meaningful to him and his wife. The story is therefore about more than completing a game; it also records a way he shares time with his family.
Blake told GamesRadar+ he expected that, as his condition progressed, he might use an iPad and an eye-gaze device for communication and gaming. That is his anticipated adaptation, not a recommendation for other people or a report that he is already using those tools.
Which Ocarina of Time release is he planning to play?
Nintendo’s US store lists The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, with physical and digital listings and a scheduled release date of November 5, 2026. Nintendo describes this edition as built from the ground up for Switch 2, with overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, and enhanced controls. The date is the one listed by Nintendo; availability or timing may change.

ALS survival statistics are not an individual prognosis
The ALS Association says average survival after diagnosis is about three years, while many people live longer. The cited page does not state a publication year. That population-level figure neither confirms nor disputes Blake’s account or his personal estimate. The Association’s general description notes that ALS can affect abilities such as walking, dressing, writing, speaking, swallowing, and breathing independently; it does not establish what will happen in Blake’s case.
