Bloodhound’s Fang is obtained by defeating Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol in Limgrave. It is a unique curved greatsword: upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to a maximum of +10, using one stone per level. The weapon requires 18 Strength and 17 Dexterity, has 141 base physical attack power and 55 passive blood-loss buildup on its item reference entry.
Where to get Bloodhound’s Fang
The weapon drops from Bloodhound Knight Darriwil at the Forlorn Hound Evergaol in Limgrave. Enter the Evergaol and defeat the boss to receive Bloodhound’s Fang as the reward. The location and drop information come from the community-maintained Elden Ring reference.

Bloodhound’s Fang follows Elden Ring’s unique-weapon upgrade path. Bandai Namco’s combat guide explains that unique weapons use Somber Smithing Stones, reach +10, and consume one Somber Stone for each upgrade level: Bandai Namco’s combat guide.

- Get the weapon. Defeat Darriwil in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.
- Use an available smithing station. Early in the game, the smithing table at the Church of Elleh can perform upgrades. The publisher’s early-game guide also identifies Smithing Master Hewg at Roundtable Hold as an upgrade option: Bandai Namco’s early-game tips.
- Select Bloodhound’s Fang. In the upgrade menu, choose the weapon and review the required Somber Smithing Stone and rune cost.
- Advance one level at a time. Supply the listed Somber Stone and pay the displayed cost. The unique path ends at +10.
Somber Smithing Stones can be found in mines and caves, according to Bandai Namco’s early-game guidance. Because each level consumes a single stone, check the required tier before spending scarce materials on another unique weapon.
Is Bloodhound’s Fang good for your build?
There is no single universal answer: its value depends on whether your character can meet its requirements, whether you want a curved greatsword moveset, and whether you are willing to fund the Somber upgrade path. Use these checks before committing materials.

Attribute fit
- Confirm that your character reaches 18 Strength and 17 Dexterity without undermining the rest of the build.
- Compare its displayed attribute scaling with the scaling and requirements of the weapon you currently use.
- Recheck the status screen after upgrading; the weapon’s practical damage depends on both its upgrade level and your attributes.
Bleed preference
The reference entry lists 55 blood-loss buildup. That makes bleed part of the weapon’s identity, but buildup is not the same as guaranteed damage: enemy resistance, repeated hits and attack opportunities determine how often the status effect actually triggers.
Upgrade-material budget
Somber weapons use a separate material path from standard weapons and stop at +10. If you are testing several unique weapons, plan your Somber Smithing Stone supply rather than upgrading every candidate immediately.

Moveset and skill preference
Numbers alone do not decide whether the weapon feels right. Try its normal attacks, running attacks, jumping attacks and weapon skill against the enemies you regularly fight. A weapon that matches your spacing and stamina habits can be a better choice than one with a theoretically stronger stat profile that you rarely connect with.

- Requirements: Can your current attributes wield each weapon without a costly respec?
- Scaling: Which weapon gains more from the attributes your build already prioritizes?
- Status effects: Does the passive effect support your intended combat plan, and can you apply it consistently?
- Upgrade path: Do you have the correct Somber or standard stones, and are you comfortable with each weapon’s maximum upgrade route?
- Moveset: Which attacks are reliable at the range, speed and stamina cost you prefer?
The available references establish Bloodhound’s Fang’s requirements, listed attack and bleed values, drop location and unique-weapon upgrade rules, but they do not establish a universal ranking or a current patch-specific damage verdict. Treat claims that it is always the best curved greatsword as opinion unless they include comparable testing and patch details.
